There definitely would be a big void for sure. There's quitte a handful of promising bands out there but I think by the time the Melvins are "split-up" as Metal-Archives would put it...

Honestly, I haven't been listening to the Melvins as much as usual for the past half-year... there was a long time when I never ever got worn out of listening to the Melvins, but like all great bands I've loved, eventually I get burned out and stop feeling like listening to them for awhile, for like a year at least... it actually really sucks, I'm very afraid that some day I'm going to run out of new music to feel absolutely titillated to... but the day the Melvins no longer exist will be a sad day for music for sure... it already happened to two of my other all-time favorites, Sonic Youth and Ween. But my biggest hope is that there is or will be another new band that makes music not suck as much as the Melvins have!

like Bo Diddley or BB King, I think they'll go on forever. Why not!

Even if they become too old to play their instruments I see them
programming shit like the Electroretard album, or doing soundscapes
like Prick, etc.

as far as Crover can move his arms and drum there's no particular problem for me

I can see Buzz and Dale making some kind of crazy electro space music fifty years from now.  Their bodies might give out, but their brains will be placed in cyborg robot bodies built from instruments and limbs of former bassists they have used from the past.
