Hi,
this video with Joe Barresi (engineer of Stonerwitch & Stag) answers your question right away.

Yeah, I think Coady looks at Dale, and that's all that's necessary. There may be tiny electrodes placed in certain parts but I'm sure they're never used.

Wow, no click track?  How does the producer map it out on pro tools?  Or is everyone so good that they record stuff just like they did when it was analog and got everything done in minimal takes?

perzo)))

imagine how fucked up a click track would have to be to be used on GPT.
Again,a gorgeous tragedy approaches,in the wake of those thought contained. But sonic reverberations shake the very marrow of the fragile chamber of mans lifeforce, and again the minions quiver in fear,as daylight fails to come, and Melvins walk the battlefield, bored and hungry...

Leroy

you're right, on Ozma and GPT I imagine there are too many tempo changes and time signature switch-ups to use a click track.  of course, intentionally, and not sloppily.

I heard that most of the stuff on those old albums was recorded first take in the studio.

Dale has commented before that keeping a perfect tempo throughout a song is not really a goal of theirs, and that if it speeds up a little, it's usually no big deal.

I know Jared uses a click to keep track of his beer and sandwich breaks in the studio. FACT!
