BO: The next album for us is already in the can and will come out in October. The line up this time is me, Dale and Mike Dillard. It's Melvins 1983, but it's new songs. It also includes the 4 song 1983 Melvins EP we did last year, and American Cow, and Dr. Mule. The rest of the album consists of new songs that no one has heard at all yet. It's a fine album and I'm really proud of it. I'm glad we could do this with Mike

How did the interviewer get "Melvins Teenage Dream" out of " Melvins 83"? I have to assume that's what happened there.

I hoped it was Buzz goofing around. Remember the Metal Polishers?  :)

I can see how (although you'd have to be at least half deaf for this):
Melvins nineTEEN - EIGH - t (misheard as "dʒ") y - thREE.
Amusing.

What piqued my interest the most was how he said recording Stag was a hard time. That might possibly be my favorite, or near my favorite Melvins album, and I would be most interested to hear about its recording.

Awesome interview-lots of interesting stuff there. Stag is amazing. If they ever play another album live, they should do Stag.  :)

Probably the amount of experimenting they were doing.. They have said that they brought every instrument they could carry into the studio.

Mark D was being a genius at the time.

=D>

Mark D is indeed a genius. With his musical education and production experience he had before he even joined the Melvins - I would guess that he and Buzz butted heads many times on musical direction and band direction with Melvins. I have read that as soon as Mark wanted to start "shopping demos" after they left Atlantic, that was really the last straw for Buzz. Mark D was involved with the Melvins as early as Gluey Porch Treatments so I imagine he felt perhaps too much "ownership" on something that really belongs to Buzz and Dale.

Regardless, I wish he and Buzz and Dale were still friends. Would love to see him come back into the fold at some point. I am really looking forward to the next Mark D record.

ManWithNoName

I never understood all the boners for Mark D. A lot of fans seem to make assumptions regarding his contributions to the Melvins without knowing all the ins and outs. It's all just conjecture, man.

Really excited about the movie. Interested to see how they will release/distribute it. My guess is that it'll be largely ignored by more common avenues like festivals and shit. I bet they turn it up to 11.
