Hey everyone.
I've been a Melvins fan for about 2 years now (I guess right before I saw them with Unsane.) and I was never really interested in their limited edition stuff until now. The sad thing is, I've had to miss them play in my city the last two times they came around, and I assume that their shows are the best place to buy vinyl. Anyways, are there any places where you can buy stuff without outrageous prices? What should I get first? When and how did you all start your collections?
I'd really really rather not have to use eBay unless I get lucky.
Thanks!

Follow Amphetamine Reptile records on FaceBook. Lots of melvins vinyl is released by them. Today in fact 2 ltd edition records sold out very fast. There is so much cool melvins stuff out there, belt buckles toys, skateboards, posters. As with any collection collect what you like.

I have been following and collecting Melvins since Ozma.  They have never been more popular than they are now.  In my opinion, get yerself a special Blue Box of (a) Senile Animal while they are still affordable (and available). Not only is this LP their masterpiece, but don't need to spend more than $125-150 (still sealed).

currently their "live at thirman records" vinyl is the only one you can get for a normal LP price.

you might also find nude with boots for a decent price.

other than that I can only say be patient, check discogs (www.discogs.com) regularly. from time to time you will find good oppurtunities there. compared to ebay you pretty much have only "music freeks" on discogs. some of them are also open for trades, or will decrease the price of an item if you offer them something from your collection in addition to cash.

have fun collecting!

buy when you can at live shows.  it's your best bet.

I will say something a little different.
Collect the albums you like most, first.

Do this because some day down the road you will have no money left.
You'll want something from the back catalog and you won't have the money to buy it.
You could easily spend $5,000 on what they have released in the last 5 years at their retail prices, I'm not talking about inflated ebay prices.

For me it was a no-brainer.
I got Houdini Lysol bullhead ozma stoner gluey and eggnog first.
Those titles will probably put you in the hole for 500-700 dollars.
However, since those we're fav titles, you'll fell satisfied instead of feeling incomplete.

After your favs anything else u buy is like icing on the cake.

Don't buy the sugar daddy 1-12, if your fav albums are bullhead and Houdini.

The 1-12 sugar daddy splits are pure collector scum.
Once you start chasing those you know you're in too deep.

It's sad that Ernie would pay $100,000 for buzz's old fridge if bobpepperpants listed it on ebAy and mackie drew some shit on it.

Yeah....
the residents rule .
I have most of their Lp's I think, one variation or another.
Never heard of that fridge-a-mah-jig b'fo.
That is pretty rad. But I would rather buy a small house somewhere.
wonder if any actually sold.......

Melvins collecting is kind of brutal, but I do like their tunes .
I always think about digitizing all their lp's , 7"'s and selling em off.
But I never do. Cause I know I would want to put that copy of eggnog , BSM, honky, Ozma  or stag on the ol
turntable. Pehaps some of their other stuff too ASA for example.

But yeah, if you ain't hooked already...
I have known musicians with cheaper heroin addictions..... (okay maybe not, but you get the idea )

Here's a list of what I feel are awesome records by them you should be able to hunt down cheap, even on ebay!

1.-Night Goat- an essential 45, the first Melvins release on AmRep I believe? Also it's a killer version that is different from the Houdini version. There were plenty pressed too.

2. With Yo' Heart Not Yo' Hands- Killer 45, Sympathy For The Record Industry pressed tons of them and it is great! The b-side-4 letter woman is even better!

3. Nude With Boots- Make sure you get the second pressing that says JK002 on the back as the first run had issue with warping. Great album on purdy red vinyl!

4. The HAT 7"s...not super rare and they all have cool b-sides.
