I love QOTSA. As a matter of fact I would go as far as saying their first album kills any and all output by Kyuss. Yeah, I said it. What? To say they jumped the shark after Rated R is retarded. Songs for the Deaf is just as good as the first 2 albums. Now I would maybe agree on Era Vulgaris and after is a bit of a shark jump.

Certainly not in my top ten (or even 20) but I dig their output up to and including 'Songs For The Deaf' ... everything after ... meh ... I don't think I've even heard 'Era Vulgaris' all the way through; who knows? Not me.

Really dig all the 'Desert Session' releases though ... those really shine ... they should do some more already.

Also, again while not my favorite guitar player or anything; I dig Homme's playing alot ... guy has a great style, approach and sound to his playing ...

Some of the radio interlude stuff is pretty funny I think. Kyuss has always just bored the fuck outta me. Queens lost it when they kicked Oliveri out. Lullabies to Paralyze is about half n half for me, but you can hear the lack of "crazy meth bass" input on it. I love Hommes guitar playing though. The solo on Little Sister kills me, it's so good!

As BH said, a few of the radio snippets are ok ... I like the Spaninsh one ... mostly 'cause I dig how they Spanish-ized the riff behind the voice ... but yeah, overall got old quick and now just kind of a sore thumb in the proceedings

As for Kyuss ... yeah those vocals ... my Playmate of the month turn off for sure. Never was able to investigate that band 'cause the vocals rubbed me so wrong ...

I was wondering when this thread would morph into a QOTSA debate.

I don't mind the radio interludes on SFTD. They're a kind of thematic glue. Maybe.

The title track on Songs is excellent.

Nick's contribution to the band is over-rated. I'd be perfectly happy without songs like "Six Shooter" and "Just Another Love Song." Not "Autopilot" and "Ode to Clarissa," though. That being said, he's still the best bass player they ever had, especially compared to their current one.
