Oh damn...I'm sure Buzz would be really excited to see that the first band listed under 'related artists' is fucking White Zombie.

Album has a great mix of songs that pop immediately, songs a little too big to just get right off the bat, and stuff that makes you scratch your head until you eventually love it. My only gripes after playing it through a dozen times are some minor issues with pace. There's a few too many "got your eyes on you'd and way too much of the vocoder voice on track two that doesn't go anywhere. Also the ending of the last track is awesome but there are a lot of stretches where it sounds like all the players are waiting for everyone else to do something. Tracks 5, 7, and 9 are epic and "Hollow Moon" and "Crankenstein" are the real deal.

I've always been a fan of plenty of bands influenced by the butthole surfers, but not so much of the butthole surfers themselves. I think this album may have finally forced me to take the plunge.

Also... Even though there's six songs here that decidedly sound like the melvins, the album as a whole feels more like something else (similar to pigs of the roman or chicken switch). In the end my desire for a melvins album is not quenched. In fact I am thirstier.

Here's an interview with Paul Leary from said rag: http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/uponsun/2014/10/butthole-surfers-paul-leery-melvins.php

QuoteHow did your collaboration with Dale and Buzz come about?

Paul Leary: I got a call from (bassist Jeff) Pinkus asking if I was interested. They had brought Pinkus on board after Krist Novocelic [Nirvana] backed out.

I don't know if that Krist tidbit has been reported elsewhere, maybe I'm forgetting though

Captain Howdy

What a maroon.  :?

Unless of course he had other issues preventing him from doing it, but otherwise...

I've never seen the BBoys segment of this but the Butthole Surfers were tripping their asses off in this. It's hilarious. Paul and (I think) Trevor the bass player at the time are really funny to watch. Eyes like this-.

Anyone else get a defective copy from Amazon? :x Fucking Ipecac must be using a cheaper pressing plant. Never in 15 yrs have I had a fucked CD from Ipecac. Two seconds in and it locks up/freezes, yet the CD looks spotless front and back. No it's not my CD player. Fucking unreal.
So I just had to go on Amazon, print a return label, & will mail it out tomorrow(Saturday). Hopefully Amazon ships my replacement out on Monday, and I get it by Wednesday the latest.

And what's up with the crappy cardboard CD package? They should have stuck with standard jewel case. "This Machine Kills Artists" I would let slide since it's a Buzz solo album, but why not keep Melvins CDs as all others are? The only odd cardboard case in the catalog is "Honky", and at least that's the original digipak style.

(PAUL)

Mine was fine, in fact I think of all new CDs I've ever bought I only had problems with one back in high school, had a crappy copy of Incesticide from BMG that they replaced. And I like the artwork and packaging, stands out as opposed to every other jewel case that just looks the same on a shelf.
Hail, not fail.

Come on now, remember a few months ago, when we thought Ipecac was going tits up?
