I have not been drunk in 6 years.

I was being facetious ... though with all sincerity congratulations.   

They talked about me getting my panties in a bunch and linked to a thread where they believed I did the same thing 3 years ago.

Missed that ... perhaps they were right and perhaps not ... I haven't yet read it; and not sure I'll bother ... though it may add context either way ... I guess if I want to put some more thought into it I'll check that out.

Many people stated that they do not feel they can say anything about Melvins that is not fawning or complimentary.

Many people have put some thought into it ... it would seem.

This seems to belie an expectation that this is a robust community where all discourse is tolerated ...

Until somewhat recent times this was actually mostly true.

... and no critique is mocked.

No worries ... I do all the time ... case in point.

Then I took the ill advised position of trying to genuinely explain where I was coming from in regards to my snarkiness in the face of lazy criticism. As well as delineating my insight into why and how Melvins do what they do in regards to art and packaging.

I had no qualms with your thoughts here ... they do put a lot of work in, the passion on both the band & label's ends is fully obvious, and indeed as I've said I dig the vast majority of it and its' adherence to motif and seriality. As I've said indeed some of my all time favorite Melvins an AM Rep cover art.

I get very tired of the whole "I don't like this and I know better ... type of comment.

Here's my theory: Haze loves the Melvins and will do their artwork for free. The Melvins have no money so they get Haze to do the artwork for free. Any young aspiring artist that wants to do Melvins artwork wants to get paid for it, and in the world today kids, that shit just ain't happening.

I would agree that money, most likely, does play a big part in the limited releases the band has been putting out lately.

Why would you want to include record stores or an outside artist who may take a percentage of sales when you can do the whole thing internally and split the revenue amongst the band and Haze (and/or Mackie)?
