That was a good read and we'll deserved thanks for the link Jules!

I wish I had this Article to show people 15 years ago.

Does it have a line like this?

"And at the end of the day, it's better to Buzz on than Cobain away"

No? FAIL!

I still do not see the start of "Grunge" off the back of early Melvins. Flipper is more like Grunge to me - Melvins sounded like Punk with Thrash Metal and Doom influences thrown in. Maybe the Kurt connection is why the Grunge label is tied to the Melvins so much? Good read though.

Seattle had a unique sound and C/Z Records documented 6 bands on the Deep Six compilation. Sub Pop output was Sub Pop 100. Both of these came out in 1986. There's 6 years of bands and scenes before Nevermind. At that time The Rocket, local music stores, mail order catalogues, and going to shows was how you found out about bands and different scenes. At the same time Portland, Tacoma, Spokane all had their own music scenes as well. C/Z Records, eMpTy Records and a bunch of other local labels all had record showcase shows with their acts. Different venues had their own bands and scenes. I have t-shirts, c/d's, 45s, catalogs from many forgotten Seattle bands. Bands from other parts of the country picked up on it. Some of these bands moved to Seattle. Screaming Trees were signed to SST in 1985, they are from Ellensburg. My point is there are more influences than can ever be documented. If this gentleman wants to credit the Melvins that's his cognizant view of his experiences of that time. Look at the comments. Whoever Billy Yellowcorn is, he credits Jack Endino. Everyone is right.

My experience during the time started with the Screaming Trees Uncle A. Sending away for free stuff out of the Rocket: Alcohol Funny Car, Shotgun Messiah, Mudhoney/Gas Huffer split, record catalogs. I totally got into eMpTy Records bands, the Fumes, Gas Huffer, Gruntruck, Kent 3. Steve Turner's Super-Electro bands, Fall-Outs/Wiretaps, Mudhoney vinyl, Kent 3. C/Z Records, Melvins, Alcohol Funny Car.

Then KISW started playing some of the local talent and it sounded great.

Was Bob Rivers responsible for Bob's Garage, or was that a different Bob?

Same Bob Rivers as Bob's Garage. KISW is a more mainstream rock station and to play local bands was big. Melvins hosted a show one night. I requested a copy from KISW but they don't respond.

The Alternative station KNDD is credited with breaking the Seattle Sound. Marco Collins from KNDD The End Seattle specifically. The first KNDD concert had Screaming Trees.

This is all I've been able to get from that session, it's on the Bob's Garage compilation. Best Revolve ever:

One of my favorite bands from back in the day. Gruntruck won a battle of the bands and signed with Road Racer.
