There's an interview somewhere where they say they recorded it because there never was a proper studio version- only live versions. That seems like a very melvin-esque move to me, and i approve

Lots of bands do this with old songs, for many reasons. Monster Magnet, Shudder To Think, Suicidal Tendencies..... Could be because they want to rerecord it with better gear and production standards, etc... Could be due to a legal dispute with the old record company (CCR, Badfinger...). Sometimes these new versions become hit songs after a long period of obscurity.

New version of Euthanasia rocks. Definitely helps the album out in that department.

When i first heard the new version i kinda disliked those additional guitar bits that overlay the song towards the end. Those were not in the original and sounded so out of place. Now though i like them!

I don't really know what they're talking about since the Dope Guns and Fucking in the Streets version is clearly a studio version, but hey the new recording kicks ass!
