I seriously want to do the old "light up a steaming pile of dog-shit in a bag trick" on the front steps of The Mohawk, Tralf, 9th Ward, & Iron Works for not making the Melvins happen here in 2018. Motherfuckers need to step their game up.
WNY promoters baffle me sometimes. You get the great surprises now and again like Shellac twice in two consecutive album tours, & Negative Approach 3X in 4 yrs,, but when a show like this is passed over, it's a total WTF. Unless the Melvins are saying no, we want a day off w/ border cross and all, but I doubt it.

Like I said earlier, it's a Friday in Cleveland, I'll take the 1/2 day off work and hit it. Grog Shop is great. Have seen Melvins there in '04, '10, & '12. Fuck You Toronto , I will not drive to your overpopulated city to see a show and deal with the border bullshit & congested traffic. I'll always rather drive that extra hour to Cleveland just to stay in the good ol' US of A and have a more stress-free drive.

I've talked to the staff there, some who are in local bands. They are definitely fans too, and have tried in the past, almost happened over Iron Works '16. Don't know details on why it hasn't happened yet. High On Fire, Mudhoney, Meat Puppets, & OFF! have played there. Melvins sure as fuck should.

For all of western/central NY, actually Rochester is due. They were in Buffalo last Aug '16 @ Iron Works along w/ Syracuse which got consecutive tours from '13 thru '17. Last Roch show was Melvins Lite summer '12, warmup show before that Canadian Lite run. I'd personally like to see Ithaca NY get a Melvins fix. The Haunt is the perfect size venue for Melvins. Saw Bob Mould & Pere Ubu there within the last 5 yrs, epic shows.

You sound about as miffed as I was when I found out Cradle of Filth are bypassing Adelaide on their Australian tour in May. The cunts play four shows straight in the eastern states then have a day off fly right over the top of Adelaide and the next night play their last show in Perth. Absolute fucking bullshit by the promoter.

I still haven't forgiven Metropolis Touring for skipping Adelaide on the Fantomas tour in 2005. The one and only chance I had to see Suspended Animation songs live.

Movies are created with the intention that the viewing audience was not there to see how the actual movie was made (to keep a level of illusion in place). 

Watching a youtube video of a live performance is not the same as seeing a live performance.
By definition a pre-recorded video is not a live performance.  Even a live stream of a concert is not the same as a live performance.

You can comment all you like on a video you saw of a live performance, but it is not the same as being there.  It doesn't sound the same, it doesn't look the same, it doesn't smell the same and it certainly doesn't feel the same. 

Why bother watching a washed out knock off copy of an original, when you can see the real thing?  But then again I don't watch videos of performances very often for those exact reasons.

Yes, kind of an apples to oranges comparison and you pretty much replied the same as I was going to.  I was also going to use another comparison for context.  I almost never watch movies.  Don't know why, just don't have the desire (and I'm not good at sitting still for long periods of time).  Yet I constantly find myself saying things like, "Oh great, another stupid (insert famous actor) movie" when in reality I've likely never seen one of their movies.  I try to remind myself I have no room to criticize that which I have no experience with.

To both you guys, i mentioned movies as an example not because it reinforces an argument against what you are saying but because it's a good example of how we experience something "second hand" and how that is not deemed inferior, or a second hand experience. You are both absolutely correct that a movie is not intended to be thought of outside of what you see on the screen. I think that much is a given.

Do i think a live show is the same as viewing a show on a computer? Again, obviously not. I never said it was. In fact i never even mentioned watching a show that way at all during this exchange. I merely said Night Goat was overplayed. I could have that same opinion even if i just saw a written setlist. It is an opinion sure, but does it devalue my opinion simply because i haven't seen or "experienced" it live? What if hypothetically you saw the band play a show live once whilst someone else saw every single performance of a tour via a video feed in a room next door to the venues? Who would have "experienced" it then? Who would have had the "real" experience. What is real?

So this is why i answered "yes and no" before, because it is the same but different. Not necessarily different as in worse but simply different. I know many will say that you can't compare one experience whatever it is, with another but i say you most definitely can. Too much emphasis is placed upon what people themselves like to the detriment of any other way of interacting with something. Perhaps there are people who prefer to see a streamed show than attend it. I wouldn't class myself quite in that way but i definitely don't see the distance between the two to be so far removed. Ha, even though it actually is rather ironically in other ways.
