Finally getting to see them this year after missing them play in the hometown back in May. Never thought two and a half months could feel like an eternity but here we are!

Extra opener with modular synths and a second guy with theremin... Void Manes?

I was curious about this extra opener so I asked a dude behind the soundboard and they're listed on the lineup as 'Yes Yen' but that's all he knew and Google isn't any help. I wish they played longer. I enjoyed them more than Jon Spencer.

Yen Yen have been supporting on some dates.

Gotcha. So to keep it short...

Went with my buddies Luther and Dominique to which we got to town early and checked Kuma's Corner. Holy fuck that place rules. Needless to say getting to town a bit early was really nice on account of being able to enjoy Indy for a good bit rather than just "drive far, watch a show, drive far late at night".

Got the Ozma shirt and the new Manchild. Would have got more merch but money is tight for the latter parts of the month.

Yen Yen was really cool ambient stuff, by the time they finished I turned around and saw The Vogue was packed as expected. Agreed their set was way short.

I really liked Jon Spencer's set, a solid bit of songs from his newest album along with a host of really cool covers. I got into his set 100% and was in need of some raw, garage rockin'! I liked the set enough to roll up the pennies and go see him again on Thursday in Louisville. "Cape", "Do The Trashcan" and the Heavy Trash cover were among the standouts.

As far as the Melvins go? I hope this "double-bass" lineup isn't a one and done deal as the dynamics of the set was ridiculously good, with both Pinkus and McDonald doing their share of lead bits and McDonald himself cracking me up with his mannerisms. Buzz was smiling and clearly having as much of a blast on stage as the rest of the band. Seeing "At a Crawl" and "Let It All Be" for the first time was a massive treat.

Plenty of sound weirdness and jamming in the opening to "Sesame Street Meat" and leading into "Onions Make The Milk Taste Bad". Watching that dude crowd surf with no one to catch him and leading him to just dump into the guardrails and concrete floor had me wincing and laughing all at once (Though not nearly as bad as this certain dude in Cincinnati five years ago). This might be top five or even top three favorite Melvins performances ever.
