Personally I don’t read into it. I believe a record is a time capsule of a band or artist in that time/moment. I also believe you don’t necessarily have to like every release from a particular band or artist. Comparing a release to their last is useless. They have grown, matured, tastes has changed. Even the approach to recording, mixing etc. I always listen to a release and judge it in that. Read about what influenced or what have you and that’s it. If it sounds the same, well I move on. Why settle for same old same old. It should be all different. If it’s less and you have a hunger for more, then they have done their job. It should never repeat. Perfect example, the 3 Atlantic releases. All 3 different, then they bailed. Couldn’t be pigeon holed
