Here's a thought - do you think ALL the tracks will feature on the vinyl release? I remember 'Hold It In' (and i think another album) left a song or two off so it could fit on the format.

Ipecac might be on their best behavior for a little while. Still it seems totally possible that they'd do something dumb like skip an awesome new cover tune and instead repeat lesser songs from Slithering Slaughter

Will pre-order the CD and bundle with something else at Bullmoose or Amazon closer to release date. This is going to rule. I don't think of the Slithering Slaughter CD as useless. I'm glad AmRep released those few songs first, as a teaser for the big enchilada.

Will play the wait and see game w/ the vinyl. Depends on reviews here and the price. Doubt I'll ever pre-order Ipecac vinyl again after the aSA fiasco.
4 LPs is a lot of flipping over the record if listening to it all in one setting.

I had the idea today that instead of Melvins adding the cover songs, it might have been cool if they had wrote a couple of brand new acoustic songs and included them on this instead. A bit like what Metallica did with the first S&M gig. I think that would have been a bit more novel and interesting. Making this release hold a bit more weight than the peculiarity of lots of classic Melvins songs redone plus a few new covers.

Also...
I've been checking out all the Melvins acoustic videos on youtube. I wish these were on Five Legged Dog!!

impressive how good those songs sound in the acoustic version

This project & idea is great. It's stripping it all right back to expose the anatomy of the songs. It exposes the songs big time and illuminates how good the songwriting is.

They should (they could if they wanted) do it to the vast majority of their catalogue and on top of that maybe write new music specifically for this stripped to the bone sound.

Just now, i was re-watching a Buzz interview from earlier this year where he mentioned this performance below influencing him to try solo acoustic. He also said about how it was great seeing Townshend play songs by The Who in this way. I would guess this was a big thing that inspired him to do a full record of Melvins acoustic material.

It's interesting that it really does carry much of the same heaviness. It's not all about distortion, it's just as much the the instrument itself, the tuning, the writing, and the technique.

Do you guys know whether the cover of 'Halo Of Flies' on this album is the same one as on the Slithering Slaughter EP? Of course i imagine it is but the reason i ask is i remember the band mentioning that the EP one was a 10 minute long cover whereas the one on this record is 8:23. I haven't heard the EP version so im guessing that when they said "10 minutes" they weren't being completely accurate. Is this correct?

No clue. But I've been similarly wondering 'bout 'Prig' ... that just The Bootlicker version or a newly recorded version?

Surly it must be newly recorded. 'Prig' is a song i don't know too well so i went back to it recently when it was announced on this. Im assuming it is just the ending part of the song. The acoustic bit. Perhaps they change it up somehow on this one. Personally im not much for that song. It's a very somber, introspective tune. Very well done of course but not something i feel in the mood for hearing myself. These days, i don't really like listening to sad, introspective songs for fun.

Acoustic bit always reminded me of Pink Floyd (and intro of The Residents). Somber? I guess. Never really found it sad tho. Have Melvins ever recorded a tearjerker? Not so much, lol. I've always found 'With Teeth' and the '92 Crover ep. to be misty and sad tho.

Anyway, who listens to "sad, introspective songs for fun"? Nah, you listen to sad sounds to wallow in that shit ... misery loves company, right?

I would have loved to hear lividity on this and heard what they would have Done differently with it. It's just a cool track listened to on high definition speakers. Cool stuff goin on in the background that you miss in a car. It was my go to morning song for a long time. Almost meditative. Look at me , 36 songs on the damn record and I still ain't happy haha

really? i'm totally into sad introspective songs but i can't see Melvins doing that with Steven. btw, there's a song on Honky sang by Mark D that can be considered a bit sad, it's amazing but can remember the title now

No, it's okay im exactly the same!! Sometimes i have to remind myself that we are stupendously lucky to have all these releases and songs and things to talk about with this band. But of course as fans, one always wishes for MORE!

Somewhat. It's hard for me to describe what i mean precisely. I can easily listen to doomy, otherwise depressing songs if they are heavy. But once melancholy kicks in with a song like the end of 'Prig' i feel a bit too introspective for my liking.
