Sweet! Between these two interviews we get confirmation that the new album is done, it'll have Ray M on it, it'll come out on Ipecac next year and be different from Bad Mood Rising. All exciting things to hear (not that I wouldn't want more BMR, though!)

I remember seeing some friggin 'Much Music' (Crappy Canadian Version of MTV) showing some big deal Halloween thing Rob Zombie was putting on like around 1999-2000, and I watched a bit of it, and he was giving a bit of a tour and interview... but remember thinking WOW I never realized it until now, but, That guy is a bit of an Asshole.

That was long before I heard tell of any Melvins Tour stories.

It's funny how prominent Houdini is in their catalogue. I bet none of us here would say it's their best or most significant record and yet it's always the one most associated with the band.

It's got "Night Goat," "Hooch," and "Honey Bucket" which taken together really give you the core Melvins... sludge, driving metallic punk, off kilter bitter monster verse-chorus rock, and idiosyncratic asymmetrical song structures. You can get all that on other albums, sure, but it's there in a major label debut at the time of their peers' zeitgeist. I don't think it's unwarranted for that album to always be emblematic and a decent introduction to the band.

When i posted that video i thought it was brand new but listening it seems it was recorded on the 31st August when dale had his operation. So it is interesting when Buzz said about plans for 2024 maybe having to be changed. I'm guessing he wanted to do the Melvins thing but if Dale was out of commission then it would be some other arrangement. Maybe the delayed tour with Trevor that never happened due to covid?

Melvins are touring in March supporting Mr. Bungle again.

The first interview there was pretty disappointing but the second one offered up a few cool details. I'm not sure if to be concerned or not that Buzz says he wants to do at least 2 more Melvins albums. He made it sound like that could be it then. Although probably more accurately he just isn't getting ahead of himself. I remember back in 2011 that he said something similar about not putting out a record to lose money and they could just do a few more.
