Thanks for posting. I got into the band during the early dawn of the internet, and remember, especially enjoying these ruthless types of interviews with Buzzo on oldschool homestyle webpages. that was how I introduced myself to them back in the day.

I like this one. You can hear Buzz's voice in the way it's transcribed.

The intro and the idea to bring both of those artifacts to the interview is great. Wish this guy had been able to get a few other places with Buzz.

Although i appreciated the inclusion, im never personally into those types of interviews. Not that the interviewer was purposely doing this, but i hate when an interviewer makes a dialogue about themselves. Bringing up their own personal history or connection. I don't want to read that myself. I think i'm way more straight forward in terms of what i like with artists interviews. Generally i don't really want to hear about a musicians life or their beliefs. For me it's all about the music. So i much prefer to hear about what their future plans are or about the past records and what they were thinking with them than ideology or trivia.

Same here. Although i doubt Buzz would offer much up. That's the kind of stuff i always want to hear but i suppose such interviews do become redundant once a record is out. That's one draw back.

It is kind of funny how Buzz will hoard information about upcoming releases, or give some stock answer about how they are always recording and they have a backlog of releases.

But then years down the road he will complain " nobody got that record. Everyone hates it when it came out. Now some people like it, but no one picked up on this cool thing we did."

Well yeah, Buzz, because you didn't tell anyone about it. You had the opportunity to tell people in an interview about what to listen for on the next record, but you hoarded that information. We are not all sheep, but we are not mind readers either.

And after five or ten years if no one has picked up on something just tell them (like how Toshi did the secret song on Mind the Drift) or drop a hint like Nintendo would. What was that magazine where they'd give out the maps and cheat codes? Nintendo Power? Sometimes we need that. Yeah it's more fun if you can figure it out yourself. But there's insight into these records that doesn't need to die with the band. I bet they could reveal mysteries about Melvins songs every month for twenty years and still have secrets to tell.

I remember Buzz has always said this about HAT basically saying "Melvins fans all say they love that album but how come I've still got boxes of the unsold CD's in my garage?". I don't think Buzz actually likes HAT he's just pissed it didn't sell as much as he liked and they got stuck with the extra copies. I've also read Buzz say before he considers Colossus of Destiny their best 'album'.

It's time for me to listen to less of these.

Unleashed in the goddamn East 30 seconds in.

Agreed and would probably get flamed by the man himself for it, but Melvins have not adapted to modern rollouts and promo at all.
They post selfies and photography to Facebook, meanwhile I have no idea where to get my hands on the latest music without setting up a shoxop security detail.

Not that i'm disagreeing with you but i find that an interesting comment. It's not something i had ever thought before myself about the band. Although i can't say i know how modern rolls out usually go. I'm sure people who are not already Melvins fans probably wouldn't stumble across a new Melvins release. But then that is no doubt the same for any act one cared to mention. Generally i think Ipecac and the band do their releases pretty well. Or as well as one can these days. Many of the online music sites tend to mention when a new album of theirs has been announced.

Still, i can see what you are saying for the more obscure releases. The AmRep reissues, the 10"'s or the little cheapie CD EP's they tend to put out. I can see they are barely promoted outside of Haze mentioning them forthcoming on Instagram or such. However i don't think they need to be promoted more either. After all they all soon seem to get snapped up.

All of these things are simultaneously true if you ask me. By no means do I think Melvins should adapt to the way music moves today, but they seamlessly adapted to every other era so far so why not now. Yes, streaming pays artists peanuts right now - but those models are evolving.

They way (what's left of) major labels are pushing streams is pretty disgusting and obviously wouldn't suit the band at all, but there is a significant silent, non-comment-section-dwelling, "offline" listenership out there that can be easily engaged with beyond the boutique releases (which I love but only buy 1 or 2 of a year). For everything else that's released - just gimme the music. I'll happily stream it first and grab vinyl whenever it's available or ideally at a show.

As far as Ipecac goes, I agree they do their job well. They need to make a much more traditional living than i.e. AmRep, which unfortunately also leads to Werckman smothering you in merch promo. Not faulting them for it, but I find irony in the MR.BUNGLE ZIPPO LIGHTERS OUT NOW!! of it all.
