Good interview but atrociously written - the English is terrible and difficult to read. But still, nice to hear something new from the band. A few little revelations too. I wonder if Buzz's comments about 'Suicide In Progress' being difficult to play is why they omit the intro when it has been performed more recently. Cool to hear some thoughts about 'Bad Mood Rising' too. I disgree that fans wouldn't take 'Mr Dog...' seriously if it was the last track on the album, but i see what he means. It does make a statement of intent opening with that.

Agreed that this was a good article with different topics than normal. Also agreed that it was poorly translated at times. I was disappointed to hear that there were no leftovers from the BMR sessions... here is my favorite quote from the interview:

Buzz: "Well, everything is good with my life right now, and god lizard has altered my association with music."

Buzz & Mackie chat. Some fascinating tidbits here. I loved the mention of how Buzz names each new record before they record it, plus the fact that he said he could put out 5 albums a year. Do it Buzz!!!!

That was pretty cool. Some repetition of Buzz typical talking points even in the interview itself. But overall good advice, a bit more inspiring than the typical Buzz interview.

I'd REALLY love to see the band put out 5 albums a year. Or at least do it for one year. 5 is probably a bit excessive but as a fan i love that kind of thing. I like bands that always release stuff and keep the audience guessing about what comes next. I'd love to experience the thrill of an announcement like that too. I always think about Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's (was it) 13 albums in one year with Ipecac a few years back. I know they were digital releases but still, if he can do that why couldn't Melvins?

13 is too much. That's more like podcasts than music. And sure there are those bands like Pearl Jam or Fugazi who've sold their whole bootleg live catalog. But I'd rather have a solid album with a touring cycle that sounds good than thirteen records of aimless drivel. For all his bluster I really don't believe that Buzz has THAT many songs in him per year. Covers and collabs, sure. Psychic TV /TG style long form improv, yeah I bet. But actually written recorded music you'd want to hear... Doubtful.

It's highly unlikely those 13 ORL albums were recorded at the same time, they were probably jams/noodling/whatever practice sessions recorded for posterity probably recorded over years that all got dumped on Ipecac at the same time, I was surprised Ipecac actually agreed to that.

And I agree Buzz talks a big game about how prolific a songwriter he is but it's not really born out by how much stuff he releases each year. Plenty of far more prolific artists out there like Buckethead for example. Of course Bucket isn't touring six months of the year like the Melvins do but still Buzz isn't that prolific.

I agree, yes i wasn't saying i'd want THAT many. That would be certain overkill, but i think a single, one-off year with 5 Melvins albums appearing would be something pretty cool or novel. Although like you say, even then i bet it wouldn't be ALL original Buzz material. There would probably be a few covers and other stuff that wasn't composed "songs" as it were. I guess i just long to experience another Trilogy type set of records from the band that are all connected and come out close to one another.

Yeah used to follow his creative output quite a bit in the earlier years and yes you are right. He did say quite often how he used to just record constantly and then put stuff on the shelf. That it would then get released at some point. Usually a few years later even!

I think Buzz likes to sound his own trumpet about things a bit occasionally. As he said in the podcast he said he COULD do it but that it would be tough and i bet he knows it would be quantity over quality. King Gizzard is a band i always think of when it comes to prolific activity.

I listened to those ORL albums as they released. Never revisited them and don't think I will. But you can bet your ass if Melvins had 5 in a year there would be maybe 0-1 that would not be worthy of revisiting. I've tried pretty hard to get into ORL but his best stuff imho is crystal fairy. ;p

Melvins releasing 5 albums of new material in one year is a horrible idea. We'd all get burned out on them fast if that happened, and yes it would turn into quantity over quality.
They did it 25 yrs ago w/ The Trilogy. That worked well. If Buzz really wanted to attempt 5 in a year in 2023, I bet it would be digital only, and uber-limited AmRep releases.

Buzz talking about John Carpenter's 1982 version of 'The Thing'. I'm glad he's a fan, personally i think it's one of the best films ever.
