i read in an interview once that Buzz wanted to call this album "Kurt Cobain", and it was due to be released right around the time KC died. After he still wanted to call it that but was persuaded not to. Prick is as good a title as any, a rare instance of the Melvins being OBVIOUS. Too bad they didn't name it after Cobain, it would've sold a lot more copies on that fact alone and been an even BIGGER joke.

This makes a lot of sense. Wish it was called that, it would've been a lot funnier.

i don't see how anyone who really likes the melvins couldn't appreciate this album.

it's one of their most creative.

I've always seen this as an "ambient" album, certainly the Melvins at their experimental best. I'm a big fan of "noise", and Prick blows CoD out of the water, in my opinion.

There's plenty of MUSIC on here. "Punch the Lion"! "Larry"! "Rickets" is total drone rock!

I still enjoy Prick, dumb joke or not.  As you said Punch the Lion, Rickets, and Larry are cool tracks and everything else is at least entertaining if not neccesarilly GOOD.  The Primus chant still makes me laugh.  I stand by my 7 out of 10 rating.

one of the many reasons people hate the melvins also happens to be the reason i love them so. prick is great.

that pretty much sums up my thoughts on the band. I love them for the fact that they do shit like this and don't give a fuck what anyone, including their fans think.

yeah Larry Is probly in my top 3 favourite tunes..by any band, I LOVE the sound of dales kick, he took out the dampener and BOOOM...sounds like they were in the zone!

anyway, I never knew buzz wanted to name it after Kurt cobain, the humanity!

the arena rock track is a legendary melvins classic!

I got this on vinyl (Along with Honky) not too long ago meself. Pure Digital Silence's groove had me laughing. Paid 40 bucks for it.

Sure enough I found the CD version of this AND Honky for 7 a pop. I just think those two albums go hand-in-hand. Prick and Honky. Honky and Prick. <3

Melvins fans are bound to hate this record, but one day, and it may take years, it will come to represent the perverse, anarchic spirit of a band that will live on much longer than those they supposedly inspired.

I bought this right when it came out in 1994. At that point I had all the albums that had come out and I saw the cassette in the store and grabbed it. I remember thinking to myself "Holy shit this looks awesome. It hasn't even been a year since Houdini came out!!! I bet this record is so badass!!!"

After listening to it several times (Yes I was in denial) I thought "Maybe I got a defective copy? Maybe the plant that made these accidentally dubbed some crappy bullshit instead of the awesome Melvins songs that were supposed to be on here?" Eventually I accepted that they fooled me. I was very mad. Back then it took weeks of mowing lawns to save to buy a cassette. From then until 2002 I never bought another Melvins album. (I still listened to the old ones) Thank god for Hostile Ambient Takeover. But that's another story.

After a couple more listens, it grew on me and I began to love it and now totally love it. The more I listened to it the more I realized how brilliant I thought it was and still think it is.

For me it's the opposite, but I also love noise music in general.
