I'd be impressed if they played the song live and somehow included that audio glitch where it sounds like a needle skips twice in a row. I had kind of forgotten about that until I listened to Eggnog yesterday.

Top 6 Profitable Niches for POD T-Shirt Designs With Advice From Expert

The print-on-demand (POD) t-shirt market has exploded in recent years, fueled by the ability to easily set up shop and sell custom designed tees online. But with so many new designers flooding the space, it can be tricky to identify profitable, untapped niches where your POD t-shirts will resonate.

To navigate these challenges, this blog connected with veteran POD designer Marc Katz of LionKingShirt for advice on researching, validating, and targeting winning niche themes. With over 7 years selling creative, topical designs, Marc has honed a process for finding POD t-shirt ideas people love.

"When just starting out, it's tempting to just channel your own interests into designs, but you have to think from the customer's perspective if you want sales," Marc stresses. "Market research is essential for newcomers to find niches and trends with sales potential before getting designing."

Here are Marc's top tips for finding lucrative niche ideas for your POD t-shirt side hustle or business:

Blackpink T-shirt is the hot trend with young people in the world

1. Examine What's Currently Selling Well

Firstly, study what's selling across POD platforms to identify themes and designs that are resonating. Look at bestsellers on Etsy, Redbubble, and POD aggregators like Printful and LionKingShirt. Don't directly copy, but see what styles and niche topics customers are responding to.

2. Use Online Forums to Learn Uptrends and Gaps

Secondly, active online communities like the POD T-shirt forums on Facebook offer insider insight you won't find elsewhere. By participating in the discussions, you can discover new angles and niche opportunities voiced directly by fellow sellers and designers in the trenches. Listen for trends getting traction as well as underserved niches that members mention need fresh designs. The wisdom of the crowd highlights both fads to ride as well as wide open niches before they get saturated with competition. Let an engaged community guide you toward untapped angles. Turn their needs into your next design ideas.

3. Research Outside Your Own Interests and Demographics

Then, Marc emphasizes looking past your own preferences to ideas with mass appeal. As he explains, "I may love sci-fi, but that niche doesn't reflect bigger market demand." Don't assume others share your niche interests. Do consumer research to objectively gauge broader interest in themes. Tools like Google Trends and social media analytics identify rising searches and engagement. Let data guide you beyond personal bias to broadly popular niches. Design for what the wider market wants.

4. Validate Promising Ideas Before Designing

Additionally, once you've identified promising niches, validate the demand before getting to work designing. Marc suggests running simple Google or social media ads targeted to that interest as low-risk market validation. If you get a strong response, you know it's worth creating designs.

5. Go Broad Within Winning Niches

Furthermore, finding profitable niches is key for POD t-shirt success. Study current bestsellers to see what styles and topics sell. Join online forums to learn trends and gaps from fellow designers. Research outside your own interests - analyze bigger market demand. Validate ideas by testing demand before designing. Create series within winning niches while they're hot. Put a fresh spin on evergreen themes like holidays. Let veteran experience guide your niche research. Infuse your own style as you design for in-demand niches.

6. Refresh Evergreen Themes with Novel Approaches

Finally, certain t-shirt niche topics like holidays and hobbies always sell. But a unique angle makes your design stand out from the rest. Put your own creative spin on classic evergreen themes that never go out of style. Or explore new facets and current events related to the niche to keep it fresh. Tapping into what's new and now can give a modern edge. Blend perpetual favorites with novelty so your shirt catches eyes amid constant competition. Give them the familiar mixed with the fresh.

Conclusion

Hopefully Marc's years of veteran experience provide helpful guidance for your own POD t-shirt niche research. Obviously, Marc Katz Inspires Growth and Engagement through Product and Content Development. Let his insider tips steer you toward market-validated topics and angles that sell. Study current bestsellers, join online forums, and use data tools to uncover high demand niches. But don't just blindly follow trends - always infuse your own personal style as you design within popular niches. Blend the wisdom of research with the creativity of your brand. Let data guide the "what" to design, while you provide the "how" it's designed. If you find your profitable niche, both commerce and artistry will thrive.
