Even HAT got a proper vinyl release, which sounds great. WTF is up with holding this record hostage from being a single black vinyl record offered for sale to vinyl record consumers?

The 2019 release is relatively recent.

I always wondered why the CD version had the tracks split thing?

No one else I've seen has ever done that.

Was that to keep people from bootlegging/burning Copies?

You can't burn a copy without the track splitting on a CD-R.

The trilogy vinyl mix is noticeably different than the CD.

They said they wanted people to hear the middle of the songs as well. Make of that what you will though.

I think you may have answered your own question here.

The audio itself, I used to listen to both the Vinyl and CD a lot with headphones.

It's either in part due to mastering for Vinyl, or the vinyl itself but there's more texture and depth to my ear on the Vinyl than the CD...The CD's a lot cleaner but it's also a bit more compressed sounding, at least to my ear.

The 'Neither here nor there' CD has a few tracks that to me, sound like they're a bit of a different mix or mastering Job as well. It's subtle but I did notice something different.

The 'Bootlicker' pressing is a lot more distorted on the high end, the CD version is cleaner.

The Maggot is a lot fatter, and same with the Crybaby version rather than the CD, they're a bit warmer on the Trilogy pressings.

Not sure that's because transferring those to a vinyl pressing is a bit lossy of highs maybe, the pressings were done on 'picture' vinyl and that's a bit softer than the 'black' vinyl according to what I've read online about record pressing.

I'm guessing these were digital recordings to begin, and there's a bit of a difference between Analog recording and digital.

They're also squeezing a lot onto those records...Like the original stag pressing.

I haven't noticed a huge difference between the Trilogy pic disc vinyls, and the orig CDs. I'm sure there's some noticable difference.
It's common knowledge here that Maggot/Bootlicker/Crybaby were the last Melvins albums to be recorded pure analog. H.A.T. was the first all pro-tools/digital.

PepsiMike

I wonder if there's any difference between the trilogy picture disc release and the 2019 maggot/bootlicker release.

Oh probably...The high end on the Trilogy press of the Bootlicker LP is noticeably crispy...It's probably a new pressing...Just gonna take a wild guess on that tho, because it might not be? Only someone with both those could confirm.

ipecac's vinyl has been sus for a while now. doubt they did a separate mix for vinyl. they would have to do mutliple test presses to see how the mix is affected by the compression. the absence of some frequencies will highlight others.
