Went to Neumo's last night for the first of two New Year's shows there.  Lots of underage punks out there preening for one another.  The hawks were out in full force.  Dave Scott Stone was on bass and Adam Jones was playing second guitar.  Everyone was using rented gear.  Dale brought some of his knicknacks (the ribbon crash for instance) and Buzz had his pedal board but the amps and kit were rented.  They opened with "Plethysmpograph" with an awesome extended intro.  Jello came out and was animated and energetic.  The band was hot.  The songs off of "Never Breathe..." sound a lot better live.  there is something about the mix of the album that doesn't do the songs justice.  They then went in to "McGruff..." and then played a couple DK songs including an awesome version of "California Uber Alles" with updated, contemporary lyrics.  "I am Governor Schwarzenegger.." etc.  The highlight of the night was during said song when Buzz came up to the mic and screamed "Die!" (on organic poison gas) and Jello dove into the crowd.  There weren't many surprises on the set.  No Melvins songs were played (unlike in San Francisco two years ago when they opened with "The Fool, The Meddling Idiot" and "Night Goat" before Jello came out) and no "Halo of Flies".  It was all Never Breathe songs and DK classics.  They did play two songs slated for the next release which Jello said would be a full length if "Jourgensen ever finishes the remixes..."

"Voted off the Island" was really short and fast with prominent cowbell work from Dale and "What Not to Become" had a really rad, chaotic structure.

They closed with an awesome version of "Moon Over Marin" which is obviously Buzz's favorite DK song to play.  He mouthed the words and had his chipmunk grin on for most of the song.  All in all a wonderful night.

I will report back after tonight's show.

It was a wonderful night.  just such a thrill to see Buzz and adam side by side grinding out soundtracks for a trainwreck in slow motion.  Really.
they were powerful new years eve also. Shredded.  i'll let somebody else write that story.  i was planning on staying after and snatching one of the set lists since i don't have "never Breathe' and am not familiar with the Dead kennedys "songbook".  So i'm kinda at aloss to name any of the songs since i forgot, and just rushed out a there after.  tks for the review it was full of info!
