i like it.....i have that Melvins tshirt with Dracula on the front, and on the back is that flower design.  Not that you're necessarily doing so klump....but alot of people like to rag on Cobain and earn cool points by talking about how shitty his band was....blah, blah, blah.  And that equation of "No Melvins = No Nirvana" is always inevitably brought up, and IMO its just plain stupid.  You could reverse that equation and almost say the exact same thing - "the Melvins you all know and love today would not exist if it were not for Nirvana".  Lets face it, the Melvins would never have been signed to Atlantic in a million years if it were not for Nirvana constantly name dropping them.  Not that the Melvins are not amazing, dont get me wrong, but when has life ever been fair....underground bands need to be promoted and sold just as all these pop groups do if they are to survive in the long haul.  Unfortunately, its not all about substance, and people are fooling themselves if they think their little indie scene is immune to that side of the business.  the Atlantic years and that whole Nirvana grunge explosion definitely gave the Melvins a good deal of exposure to folks that would never have heard of them otherwise and to this day they are still reaping the benefits and IM GLAD they are.  Maybe Houdini, Stoner Witch, and Stag would never have happened if it were not for this association.  One could even go so far as to say the Melvins wouldnt have been able to survive solely off of the band after a while if it were not for this association.  Buzz and Dale would have to get day jobs and the Melvins would not have been able to tour constantly and build up their craft and survive for 20+ years.  I say its GREAT if some kid in 2005 reads one of the million interviews out there with Kurt Cobain in some guitar mag and ends up checking out the Melvins as a result.  Who cares if he's a "real fan" or not .....all it means to me is i get to hear more and more great music from the Melvins.

Bottom line, give it a rest....the guy was a huge Melvins fan before any of us had even heard of them and before some of you were even born.  Plus, whats the point in trash talking and somehow seeking revenge(for whatever reason :?) on a guy who has been dead for more than a decade?  Beto Brasil will back me up on this....where you at bro??

wow, no more caffeine for me today....

Well I don't agree with that.

The melvins were around and releasing albums and had a pretty big following  before Nirvana.  They might have not have the same exposure.. but I do believe most of their other friends who helped them out on the way.. Kozik among the top.. .would help them out if Atlantic didn't pick them up, and he did.  Patton too.

Nirvana only got them signed to a big label and gave them a bigger exposure.  But when you go to melvins shows... you dont see a million nirvana shirts or a teeny bopper nirvana crowd.  Fuck, most people who like nirvana cant stand the melvins.

I agree with you about this. Nirvana name-dropping them made a huge impact for the Melvins no matter what anybody else says. Another poster mentioned that Patton could've done the same thing, maybe so years down the road, but would he have had the same clout with Faith No More? Would it have been enough for Warner Bros. or Epic/Slash to sign the Melvins sight or sound unseen as Atlantic did? I don't think so. And the Melvins aren't afraid of signing with major labels and they have repeatedly said so. They are not elitists. Other than that, I think the shirt is pretty cool and a classic. Also there is more to Nirvana than just Nevermind.

Masteraloadahead

I think that Dog Tired is the smartest guy on the board.

DubEMC

He plays a mean guitar too.
I thought this thread was about a t shirt design?
How many more Melvins vs. Nirvana Beatles vs. Stones Captain Beefheart vs. Sgt. Slaughter threads do we need?
I've got Madonna's big dick in my left ear and Toby the Japanese I don't know what in my right ear!

FUCK  DUDE! They signed Mr. Bungle because of him!

Thank you for the compliments...

(PAUL)

The flower design reminds me of the Bullhead cover in that it gives no indication of how the band sounds, or gives a very wrong impression.
Hail, not fail.
PS:  fuck him.

mumu

The flower design IS pretty gay.

The design is all that was mentioned in the first post..

I open my psychology book to TRANSFERENCE and see a picture of GrumpyHermit.
It's all fucking good-dini as far as I'm concerned. Then again, I'd eat a MELVINS deep fried turd. GO MELVINS!!

Is that so? Isn't it more likely they signed Bungle because of FNM's success?

Oh and by the way, I like the sweater, even though it's gay. The 2003 Geek Tour shirts were gay too so I bought one.

thegrumpylil'hermit My bro, you are correct.....
I do not speak more about that person, Kurt Cobain.
some boys here should write always in livenirvana.com , but , i know that here is a free board and...
but ,I have pride in say that I knew the Melvins in 1989, and not by the band called Nirvana. Cobain complicated the life of Melvins doing they will sign with the Atlantic Records.

but is the life bro, Who is alive today? who is doing music today? who never used Heroin?

Melvins were and will be always to better band in the world, without the help of nobody....
