yo vin and recess,  what are you two doing?  following me?   I tend to have a magnetic personality so I don't blame you.

what do you mean thats not me in the avatar?  thats ALL me!
no seriously though, thats not me, I am not nearly that handsome or intelligent looking.

I gotta tell you all something though.   I JUST got back from getting some pretty bad, depressing news. I won't go into details and drag you down but I ain't kidding about this one. I just sat down at my desk and thought I would check the board to clear my mind of negative things. I read your posts and your response to my "discussions" comment and that shit made me laugh.  just when I thought there would be no more laughter for a while, you all showed me a little light.  no bullshit.   whether you realized or not you freaky sum-bitches were there for me when I REALLY needed it.  I thank you.
(and the good karma hit the spot!)

Uhm, well.. I don't really know what I should respond to this story. I feel sorry for you 'cause of the bad news but it's nice Vin and I could cheer you up a little. Also it's nice to see you have the guts to write down your feelings on this board since I don't think that happens a lot on other boards.

Whatever the bad news that hit you is, take it easy.

aaaahhh  manwith,   you have served your purpose. if that shit doesn't put a smile on your face your hopeless. and I, for one, am not hopeless.

I appreciate your "kind" effort.    you think my wife would appreciate that? it IS her birthday on saturday.  I wonder what the quick shipping costs.

hey sorry to hear it glen, hope things look up for you in the future.. glad we could help a bit

that link is pretty damn funny.  i wasn't expecting to laugh but i did! it says you can really steer....i'd like to see what that feels like i think.  pretty horrible and degrading though.  i'd never strap it on to anyone who wasn't up for a quick laugh.

Dog Tired

On the studio tracks Jello's voice track is too loud.

The California Uber Alles track is perfectly mixed.

Dumb ministry guy messed up enchanted thoughtfist much! ( minus drum boost and the chorus' chorus )

You know what man? It's up to everyone else here, whatever the consesus is.
I've put up the We Reach mp3s and people still bought the CD, and I put up
Electroretard mp3s also, because its out of print, but COD is still on Ipecac
and in stores, it's available. I'll do it if the majority agrees. I want to respect
Buzz's earning potential
Hey conda, is this offer still open? I'd love to hear Electroretard, Honky, Stag, and whatever other out of print melvins material is out there.

dammit man.   go get this album out.   put it on a turn it up.  as loud as your little ears can handle.

damn fine way to admire the work of Buzz Osbourne and Dale Crover PRE-BIG BUSINESS.  for the true dale crover officianado it works wonders.   no question who you're hearing belting out the beats.
as sick as it sounds I actually like the drumming better on this than on (A)SA.

do it.  do it now.

I still need to go buy it. 8-[ It wasn't a priority for me since Jello was on vocals and not Buzz.
I do like the artwork by Camille Rose Garcia. I was actually listening to clips of it on itunes
yesterday and I do need to buy it, maybe this weekend. That Dalek remix sounds nice. 8)

glen

dude.   get it.

Wholly Buy Bull:     kevin chugging like nobody's bidness.
Dumb Punk Kids:     Dr. Geek-esque.   great guitar work.
Lessons In What Not To Become:  slightly twisted. cut right out of classic MELVINS.
Halo Of Flies:  an epic masterpiece.

the bloat

Glen, thanks to your post,  I decided to throw this one on. I seriously never listen to it, but tonight....I am.  It's hard to get around Biafra's vocals and yes, it might be a little higher in the mix than anyone would actually prefer, but hey, what can you do? The music definitely kicks ass:

Halo of Flies - the ending is fucking brutal with Rutmantis dropping that sweet bassline and Crover smashing out the final notes. I heard this version before I ever heard the original by Alice Cooper. I ran out soon after and picked up the vinyl for $1 or something at a local record shop. The album is called Killers and if anything, it turned my onto a side of Cooper that I had never really heard much of. I recommend early Alice Cooper to anyone that hasn't heard it.

The Lighter Side of Global Terrorism - For a remix, this one actually isn't too bad. I like the extended guitar mayhem. Sort of reminds me of that interlude during Youth of America. And yet, when I hear a remix, I want it to be fucking RE-MIXED if you know what I mean. This one sounds a little samey except for the interlude. Not a bad track though.

Lessons in What Not to Become - I always feel bad for Jello when I listen to this song. You know where he talks about his Dad throwing him against the wall. I feel bad for him if that's true. Maybe that's why he's gay - he's perpetually searching for a man to love him. Like when women become strippers because their Dads leave them....Anyway, the music is cool, especially the middle part where Buzz switches the riff up before going back into the verse. Heavy. Pure Melvin-ocity.

Those Dumb Punk Kids... - Some excellent, almost rockabilly riffage courtesy of Buzz. I think someone mentioned it was Dr. Geek - like. Bingo! This is probably the best song on the disk - maybe both Jelvins disks. Even Jello sounds pretty good here (except for the Elvis thing at the end). This one doesn't feel as forced as some of the other songs.

Wholly Buy Bull - Kevin's bass part in this song absolutely filthy.  This whole song has the Melvins stamped all over it. From the slide bass to the feedback. Wish it were longer. I like it. I love it. I like it. A nice one two punch and a great moment to remember when looking back at how good Rutmantis was for the Melvins...when he wasn't hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh!

Voted off the Island - Ummm...it's good I guess. Not much Melvins here. Words and Music by Biafra, etc.

Kali-Fornia Uber Alles - A decent live recording of an old Dead Kennedys song. I've never heard the original so I'm not sure what to think. I wouldn't have guessed it was the Melvins playing it if I didn't know what the hell I was listening to. Moving on.

Dawn of the Locusts - Now we are into the remix portion of the disk. I really don't like this one. I think it's weak no matter how many times I've listened to it. How can you hope to improve on a song this good? Answer: You can't. This remix merely dilutes the power of the original.

Enchanted Thoughtfist - I really like the version on "Never Breathe...". Apparently, Buzz can write catchy pop songs when he wants to and we have 'Black Bock' as further proof. Just think, this isn't even a cover. It's damn catchy and the remix adds a little grime to the original. Sort of a redundant track or not much an improvement upon the original. I look at this one as sort of a throwaway.

Caped Crusader - I always felt like this song was a little too Tool-ish for me. I mean don't get me wrong, I like Tool, but are we not listening to a Melvins album?  Adam Jones should just keep his riffs in his pants.  It's funny, when all these people go in and "remix" these songs all they really do is fuck with Jello's vocals and try and put some special effect on it so he doesn't sound so...........Jello. Another throwaway in my opinion.

Other notes: the artwork is rad. A breath of fresh air....nice to see someone else step in to pinch hit.

All in all, a solid release with a few holes here and there.  Recommended. As Glen said, "go buy it". I guess I'm preaching to the choir here. For some reason after listening to this in it's entirety, I put on the Joe Preston CD. I was looking at my entire wall of Melvins disks and THAT is what sounded good. Maybe some kind of psychological thing going on there.
