Stag is a good album man,all songs, i like Skin Horse, first and second part,The bit .the goat too...great songs.get Houdini or Eggnog later.....

For being one of the least-heavy Melvins albums, Stag does have Goggles, Perhaps the most unbelievably abrasive song I've ever heard.

If I had to compare Stag to anything, it would be HAT. Only it's more diverse. The horns on Bar-X threw me for a big loop the first time I heard it. Not what you'd expect after Houdini and Stoner. I think it's really the first album that they really began making music that would be fabulous for film. Stoner and Houdini have a few of those moments, but Stag has "hide", "yacob's Lab", "soup", "Sterilized", and "Lacrimosa"(can't you imagine this in a horror flick?), and so many sections of "Tipping the Lion" and "Black Bock" were completely new directions for the band.

I love Stag. I get inspired every time I hear it. No one else on this planet could have written Stag. There have been plenty of shots at Lysol, but no one will ever even approach Stag. And it's out of print. What a disaster. Good thing there are about 500,000 promos of them out there.

It's their Sgt Peppers. Good album, I was just thinking about listening to it.

I would say its a blend of houdini, stoner witch, honky and hat. But it doesnt sound like those albums blended together. Its an original album. And their clearest production too.
