Sex Pistols suck.

The Ramones were 100X better.

I disagree that the Pistols suck, but I do very much agree that the Ramones were 100x better.

"The Green Day of their time."  That made me smile.

I kind of view the Sex Pistols in a similar way as I do the Monkees, since they were both manufactured bands used as cash in attempts on something someone saw as a good way to make money (though I hold the Pistols in higher regard since they, unlike the Monkees, actually did write their own songs and play their own instruments).  That view is that even though they were fake, they were good.  The Monkees have contributed some great 60's pop songs to the world.  The Sex Pistols have contributed some great rock 'n' roll songs to the world.

Once you get past the moral issues of the fact that both bands deliberately lied to everyone and distorted their public image with the sole intent of making money, you can start enjoying their music for what it was... good music.

Not true.  Except for Sid, everyone in that band was determined to get at least one album out.   Not comparable to the monkees.  Each person in the sex pistols had a definite talent.

As for the ramones, image was very key.  Leather jackets, Ramones nom, etc.   Image doesn't take away from musical talent.

Like I said, I do hold the Pistols in a much higher regard because they did play instruments, and they did know how to write songs and compose music.

As a marketing approach, though, I do think of them as kind of a punk Monkees.

I also want a Ramones style leather jacket.  Though I'd probably come off as a total fake if I wore one around town.

Me too.

My rule of thumb is:  You should never have more T-shirts of a band than albums by the band.  So I have 15 Ramones albums, and 4 Ramones T-shirts.

I wouldn't be surprised considering the New York Dolls, The Sooges and Radio Birdman all hopped on that bandwagon recently (its a shame only the Radio Birdman album was any good) .



But ouch, can you even imagine...?

when people talk about the Sex Pistols, I automatically think Buzzcocks, because they were a whole lot better, and very sadly overlooked by todays "punkers."
