I've heard this complaint before. I got into the Melvins in highschool and they have been my favorite since-it's been about 15 years now. I'm not sure it's so much a female vs. male thing to like the Melvins. I know plenty of guys that listen to utter crap. I think it's your ability to have exposure to different kinds of music that can dictate what you listen to. Most people only know what the radio feeds them and have no idea that there is something else to listen to. I think your peer groups can shape what you listen to. Luckily for me I had music collector nerd friends who exposed me to so many different bands that I was free to explore what I really liked and disliked without feeling like I had to fit in. But you know, there is a lot of pressure for females to be sex symbols. I watch you guys talk a lot here about this chick is hot and that chick is hot. I think most females that give in to that pressure are out shaking their butts to hip hop. So, I say if you want more chicks to be into cool music..befriend them and expose them to all sorts of music. Not all of them will get it but a few of us do.

This is shear poetry to my ears. Imagine that Ear candy. I have a few female students in the works and it is my duty to show them more of what is out there.

I think what we need is celebrity grudge match's like fall out boy against buzz and he can throw a cheese burger at the boy and cut off all his tatoo'es with some guitar strings whille playing nightgoat.  A change in media is what we need.

Hot chicks don't dig music geeks. Music geeks go to Melvins shows. Music geeks don't have hot girlfriends to go to Melvins shows with them.

Its really very simple.

I'm a hot chick. I dig music geeks...in fact I married one.

I dunno, I have seen some really hot girls around Melvins shows. No saying whether they were fans or if their boyfriends just dragged them there but I have seen them. I'll give you that the dude to girl ratio is skewed. Then again, who the fuck cares? The ratio of people who listen to great music to the typical fuckwad that listens to whatever is on the radio is skewed too.

BTW...love your posters Richie

Lividity

Well, surely this can't be as uncommon as finding a 14-year-old Melvins fan....

(shifty eyes)

Oh wait, I forgot. This serves zilch to this topic. Acck...

Well, you can count my mom as a female Melvins fan, I guess.

I've shown girls the melvins more than once, most having bad results.
one friend, though, really digged them, and is really into the fantomas now as well.
the real question though is, would they go to a melvins show?
amber, i guess i'm the wolf they were talking about that's on this board.
you're anyone on this board's wet dream, though.
just had to get that out.
you're husband is a lucky, lucky man.

Yep, that's what it's all  about. I remember they left me confused at the time, but I wasn't sure how to deal with it. Black Dice probably had the same effect on me.

Without wanting to come over as a snob, I'm a practiced listener and not many bands overwhelm me with their live sound, but fortunately some of them out there still do. The Melvins are one of them.

Burnt Bride

as someone else already said, I think there's a lack of people I know that like the Melvins, whether they're male or female...

whether chicks are at melvins shows with their boyfriends shouldn't mean anything...I used to go to see the melvins with my ex all the time and we were both fans...now I'm the one dragging my boyfriend to see them

P.S. I like music geeks too
You taste like a burger, I don't like you anymore

i think the misconceptions are widespread.
metal has always been a boys club. girls have always been "groupies"
its the same thing with hardcore.

i dont listen to the melvins with anyone except the people i go to shows with, my boyfriend, my mother and the couple of guys whom were always fans [although i grew as somewhat of a separate fan and am close with only one of those people].

i was the one who introduced the melvins to my bf because i dont like to SHARE the melvins with people i find UNWORTHY or wont let me listen to it the way i want or will inturrupt a song. i dated a couple of people who tried to get into them and after the dates were no more they said: "and by the way the MELVINS SUCK" which i always found HILARIOUS and justifying.
i know i couldnt feel the way my boyfriend does about nyhc bands and i dont really try that hard even though he's done stuff like scour ameoba [california record shop] while i was asleep and buy me their cds i cant live without when our stuff was stolen. [first cds back: gluey re-issue and nightgoat cd single].

girls and boys. boys and girls. really you could say this about a lot of bands. i dont know any girl fans who live in ny.... or in general. i like jucifer a lot. in fact ideally i would live like g amber valentine and her spouse being 1993 for the rest of my life in a winnebago. luckily though, i am not from athens, GA. unluckily i do not have a heavy duo to tour the country  :(

well im sure thats was kind of ranty but i kind of have ranked my musical taste as of late and i listen to a lot of death metal. i never met a girl that liked cannibal corpse either.
gamble gamble gamble DIE.

I also find it hard to find ANYONE besides my friends who like the Melvins, so finding a girl who likes them isn't really an option unless I either wait forever or go hitting on all the girls at the next Melvins show I go to. As long as they think they are at least okay and understand my feelings about the band (best band on the planet), that's all I need. The best option I suppose is finding someone with an open mind who can be converted.
Hail, not fail.
PS:  fuck him.

M i C H e L L e

I've been to countless Melvins shows in my life, and I've never been hit on at any of them.   :(

I met one redheaded girl in nyc at webster hall, she came up to me and spoke to me about the vinyl I bought, that is the closest female contact I ever had at a Melvins show.

Traditionally it has been a guy-thing having a devotional interest in the arenas of music, sports etc, but it seems like that part is about to change. In the sixties the scenery was devoted male music-freaks, listening to Beatles, Stones etc on the gramophone, while the girls where screaming their heads of when Ringo, Paul, John and George entered the stage with their ugly boil-haircuts, and entereing psychosis when Presley shaked his hips. This image has followed up all the way to the ninethies, where you could see women going bananas because of the looks of the sissy-boys.

Nowadays it seems more and more like we have reached another level, and that I think, is due to the fact that women around the world has become more and more independent, in all aspects towards the man. Another factor is that the raising of children isn`t so stereotypical as it once was. (maybe Mullet-god will get a son with pink hair! :()

I think that we in the future will stop looking at each other gender-wise, race-wise or whatever, and more look at the individual for what it is, regardless of the artificial.

What has easter done to you, Mr Mullet? Please Conda, come and knock me senseless again!!
