Revolve / Metallica

ok, it's getting annoying...     I've been listening to stoner witch quite a lot lately in my car. now, last night a friend of mine, while driving with me and listening to revolve, tells me:  man, this sounds like metallica.  I never really thought this way but he was the 3rd person in about a month that told me that when listening to revolve...   

any thoughts?

It's not like I care THAT much about it, it's just that I feel like when people who don't listen to the melvins finally get exposed to some melvins tunes they think: oh, this sounds like metallica (which, IMO, is a great band music wise) and sort of miss out the bigger picture...  that melvins is way different to metallica and much more varied and less straight forward...    it's like they categorise the melvins in a specific niche of "another band that sounds like metallica", which I guess we all know is not the case...   as I said I'm not losing sleep over it (well, at least not yet...)  just wanted to share...

i can't stand metallica. maybe it does sound similar, but i'll continue not thinking of metallica

i think it sounds different...
the music is a bit bluesy and classic rock, not like metallica.

Well, Buzzo's singing/crowling is rather Hetfieldian in that one. It's a really catchy song btw.  I think it would have been hit if it was Stone Pimple Toilets or Foo Fighters song.

Works for me. I'm a big fan of that song and have always loved Metallica.

I have also noticed recently that Revolve is definitely their most "metallica sounding" song I've heard from the Melvins.

Does this friend happen to know much about rock music? I know alot of my friends say the same thing about alot of music I show them, because that's really the only band they can relate it to. "Uh, well, these guys are heavy, and Metallica is heavy, so this is like Metallica." It really embarrasses me sometimes. It's like, "you've got to be kidding."  Just bow my head and shake it side to side.

i think your friend has it backwards...Metallica tries hard to sound like (the) Melvins...but they, like so many others, simply lack the: (insert favorite adjective): balls, guts, talent, good looks, hair, hallucinogens, etc.
