I just never find myself listening to A Senile Animal. I'm not saying it's not a good album, but for the Melvins standards I hold, I have come to the conclusion I don't like it very much. Having that said, all these songs rocked damn hard when I heard them live. Really. And of course, HCTWW is just insanely good. I'd go as far as saying I'm looking more forward to the new Big Business than a new Melvins/Big Business album.

ASA is a great album,sounds fresh, with different vocals armony and massive drumming....sure,big business is a great band but melvins+big business is better than dale+buzz+trevor or DSS or any other part- time bass player.

On this board? I guess so. There is no problem at all. I love this band obviously and love everything they have ever done, but of their entire discography, I like (A)SA the least.

People who I think I wrote that I wish they would team up with Jello again, or any other previous bass player, should learn how to fucking read.

my opinion is that new melvins record will be different than ASA (billy f and suicide in progress are an example of what i'm saying) and maybe you'll like it, but another fan will not...
the main thing is that melvins sounds always different and buzz and dale now are about forty years old,not?this is great!

after kevin's era melvins line up was always different,DSS is not a bass player,and trevor is an amazing bass player but not totally into mlevins style...is just an opinion!
line up with the biz works very well in a more straight-forward way, it's the reason cause  i love ASA.

i've said it before:  i hope big business doesn't sap the melvins of their dark edge.  ASA is the most...friendly album to date, it my opinion - and their live show supports this.  they seemed to brood less this year. and only slightly more last year, compared to before BB stepped into the mix.  they are great musicians and very cool guys, but i think they are more of the crowd-pleaser type than the melvins.  i liked feeling the melvins were scowling at us, not playing to us for our amusement.

I think I more or less understand what you mean. Where the Melvins' sound can crawl into your soul, ready to rip it to pieces, bring you back to your saddest, darkest and beautiful memories at the same time - Big Business makes you feel like when you were a little kid, riding that amazing pink-colored roller coaster. Both are amazing experiences, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with a good roller coaster ride, but essentially different.

with Big Business came a sense of humor.   

not the dark, witty and sadistic sense of humor that always took a certain type of person to appreciate it, and everyone else said "what the fuck???".  the type that Buzz and Dale always brought to the table.

but a frat-house, teenage, goofball sense of humor that oozes from Jared Warren.    a fitting trait for Big Business, but not so much for MELVINS.   

I think Buzz approached the new line-up with a very open-minded attitude.  he figured "hey.. we got TWO new guys here with alot to offer.  I'll let their essence into MELVINS just to keep things fresh and in a new direction."  as has ALWAYS been the case with MELVINS...  freshnessity (?) and new directions.

none to fear though, for those 4 piece haters.    what is the backbone of my point?  constant evolution.   Buzz and Dale won't allow MELVINS to become Big Business +2, at least not for anymore than 2 albums.     they got too much staked into it.  not saying Coady and Jared won't stick around,  just that the sound and personna will still evolve.

if anything I'm thinking Jared and Coady will be more MELVINS like as opposed to Buzz and Dale being more Big Business like.

i have to disagree about the humorous element. that goofy sense of humour has always been there, take a large chunk of songs off of the singles collection, stag and honky for example. in some ways it goes with their public personnae, which has always been sarcastic and none too serious. ASA isn't without creepy darkness as well ie: The Mechanical Bride and A Vast Filthy Prison. Sure, it's a catchy almost accessible album, but underneath it all, it's still a bit too difficult for most people to get into.
