Slim's New Years Eve Show

Well, here we go


Started off the day at Danny's.  had about 5 or 6 beers, then Sweet arrived.  We went to Cheeseburgers bar and he hooked us up with food n drinks.  Really super super super cool guy.  Me n Danny went back to his pad, Sweet went for a walk.  Hung at Danny's until about 5, then I walked to Slims.  Long story short, I got access to the sound check, ( thanks to he knows who )which was just Civilized worm.  Then I went next door for some pizza and things turned bad.  Ate 2 slices of pepperoni, and about 30 minutes later got sick as fuck.  At this point, Sweet had arrived, and we met Buick outside Slims.  Buick was really cool.  Bought me a beer, which I couldn't drink as my stomach was killing me.  I took a taxi back to Danny's around 8, and promptly started barfing and all other things associated with food poisoning.  I tried to sleep for a while, since I knew Melvin's didn't go on until 11:45.  Danny gave me some Tums, and his girlfriend made me some tea.  They helped a little.  Got off the couch around 11, and took a taxi back to the club.  Got there to see Comets on Fire finish up.  Kurt, the sound guy and occasional Porn basser let me put my camera on the sound booth ledge, and I filmed the whole show.  Steady shot, but a little far away.  Sound turned out excellent.  Great set, normal as September except they aded Copache, which was great to hear.  They finished with History of Bad Men, into some drum march noise, into the Star Spangled Banner.  Jared then sang Glory Glory Hallelujah, said some funny shit and show over.  Sweet and I tried to hail a cab for 30 minutes to no avail.  It took us an hour to walk back, trying to hail a cab and walk.  Got back to Danny's, couldn't sleep.  I barfed some more.  Fell asleep around five am or so.  Got up at 9 this morning, and feel a little better.  All in all, cept for the yakking, it was great.  Danny, his gf, Buick, and Cheeseburger are all really fucking cool and I can't thank em enough for their hospitality.  Great night and a great holiday.

holy shit- glad you made it to the show though. to be honest i'm not sooooo sorry i didn't fly out for it. had a good time in new york, though i could be described as swinging a bottle of champagne dancing to gimme the loot [biggie] yet screaming to no one about how the melvins set prob started. no one knew what i was talking about. vinney bailed on the party to be cool somewhere [although i must say this party was the shiiiiiit]. i didn't puke dude to food poisoning nor drinking.

idle, your night-mare sounds terrible but you handled that like a pro. how the hell one wills themselves is amazing.

I got there early and saw all three bands play. Met Sweet at the bar, she managed to pick me out of a crowd. Met another guy, didn't catch his name, but he had a Melvins Fiend Club patch on the back of his jacket and showed me his Melvins Army tattoo. (I had a Melvins Army T-shirt on) Had a great time, didn't drink too much because I was driving. They did a good mix of what they've toured in the past year (Senile animal, live Eggnog/Houdini/Lysol) To me, they never disappoint. Can't wait until the next time.

Food poisoning sucks. Very glad you got to see the show though. Sounds like you all had fun. I've really got to relocate myself to the US, it seems like it'd be the only way i'll get to see the melvins again.

yeah, my family did the whole "bad mayo in the fridge" thing 2 years ago. personally, i lost 14 pounds in 3 days. good stuff. food poisoning will be the next hollywood diet. you heard it here first! of course, it's easier to lose your appetite reading schnabposts.

I've gotten a little of my appetite back.  Kept it down.  I'm just glad I made it down to the show last night.  There was a period of about 2 hours I thought there was no way in hell I was going.

I've got the after show blues, was sad coming home and knowing I have to go back to work.  I felt better after watching the Houdini 2005 dvd on the plane, and I turned on a long haired yuppy guy to the Melvins, who later tried to turn me on to the Decemberists (never heard them before, not sure if I ever will). 
Last night's show was incredible!  Probably best I've seen in 2007.  The set list was perfect, and they played nearly every song from (A)SA.  During the NYE countdown someone came out dressed like Baby New Year (with a Nixon mask on), not exactly sure who it was but lots of signs point towards Richie Goodtimes.  I was fooled at the end of the show when it sounded like they were going to play Dwight Frye, but didn't.  Jared was being a goof and sang Glory Halleluah twice, and called us all idiots for wearing last years clothes.  Hanz has some pretty good footage of it all, with excellent sound, hope he'll remember to send me a copy of it soon. 
I felt really bad that Hanz was doing The Big Spit all night, it had to have been the tainted pizza, because the cheeseburgers Cheeseburger fed us earlier in the day were top notch.  But at least Hanz pulled it together to make it to the show, and since you weren't drinking, I was the only one slightly hungover today. 
I was only able to pick up three posters, as it seemed like every ATM in town was out of money, and therefore I was limited to how much I was able to spend.  They also sold two drum heads signed by everyone with an added bonus of some Mackie O. artwork on them too.  Those were going for $60, and were bought by someone before the night ended.
Once Hanz and I finally got back to Glen's, uhh I mean Danny's,  it was hard getting to sleep after such an amazing show. 
It was a blast meeting everyone!  Thanks for the drinks, and good laughs.  I look forward to the next time!
