I always wondered what was going through Buzz's mind during the silence of the '02 Tour. He definately was concentrating on something. Maybe he was somehow timing 4 minutes and 33 seconds.

I'm still curious if anyone actually timed their Grumpy's single.

I always liked the way it kicks back into Smell Like Teen Spirit.

I have one of the first copys of Nirvana 'Nevermind" with out the silence and the extra song.

I've never thought about it but maybe Buzz put the silence after Moon Pie on Crybaby to emphasise Nevermind and Smells like.

I just thought it was a way of linking the albums.

Regarding the silence and hidden track on Nevermind;

Nevermind was mastered on the afternoon of August 2 in The Mastering Lab in Hollywood, California (according to the album's sleeve notes). Weinberg started working alone when no one else showed up at the appointed time in the studio; by the time Nirvana, Andy Wallace, and Gary Gersh arrived, Weinberg had mastered most of the album.[19] One of the songs mastered at the session, a hidden track called "Endless, Nameless" intended to appear at the end of "Something in the Way", was accidentally left off of initial pressings of the album. Weinberg recalled, "In the beginning, it was kind of a verbal thing to put that track at the end. Maybe I misconstrued their instructions, so you can call it my mistake if you want. Maybe I didn't write it down when Nirvana or the record company said to do it. So, when they pressed the first twenty thousand or so CDs, albums, and cassettes, it wasn't on there." When the band discovered the song's omission after listening to their copy of the album, Cobain called Weinberg and demanded he rectify the mistake.[20] Weinberg complied and added about ten minutes of silence between the end of "Something in the Way" and the start of the hidden track on future pressings of the album.

I didn't know it was not initially there. I always thought it was only on some pressings, then on all re-pressings. I remember seeing an interview with Krist, I think, where he was a little surprised that people found it.

I've got a Frank Zappa VHS boot from Germany '78 @ the Circus tent aka "We Don't Mess Around" where he does an "on the spot" take of 4:33.  I couldn't find that part of the show on youtube.
