Wang Dang sweet poon tang.

Don't get stuck on the Tool reference, I think it's more of a reference to opus styled, alice cooper story telling songs.  I think people get what I'm going at, but if I can clarify it in the future i will.

Chomas

you would have to say the opposite

the only common influence among the Tool members is the Melvins, I remember reading that somewhere

violent office

The first sesction of "Suicide..." sounds like ZZ Top to me.

w a s s a k a

i get the "story telling" part of it, but i dont know about a tool influence

unrelated

if you listen to The Bit

its easy to tell they've  influenced Mastodon

that and they covered it

wonder why?

dijk cheese

i like big business

but i really don't like the big melvins material

can't stand billy fish

dunno bout the tool influence, can't stand them either

the guitarist from Tool (adam) is one of the biggest melvins fans of all time.
it is unavoidable that melvins influenced adam's guitar style, just as tom morello did (RATM).
actually, Tom is the one who taught adam how to play guitar, and Buzz inspired adam to take it a little further.

in the long run, though, Tool has now influenced the melvins in a way, as can be expected after 10 years of friendship between bands.
i think the common bond between melvins-tool was a mixture of black sabbath-pink floyd and PUNK music.
example: when the jello biafra-melvins re-released Sieg Howdy, adam jones (from tool) is playing guitar on many of the tracks... you wouldn't have expected Mr. Serious Tool Guy to be into punk music, but he really always has been.

more melvins tracks featuring adam:
toadi acceleratio
POTRE
pink bat
the anti-vermin seed (virus, not guitar)
colossus of destiny (virus, again?)
eye flys (COD live version)
divorced (also feat. danny & maynard... and justin?)

  :)
if what you are saying is true i really wish me for Adam that Buzz replaces Tom Morello  as guitar-teacher up to the end of the scholastic year

I don't think the Melvins have ever gone out to try and sound like anyone imparticular. They've always just done they're own thing but, I doubt that they've never been inspired by anyone's ones work. To me they're two entirely different bands that are friends and have inspired each other to keep pushing each other to do more in they're music. You have to admit as the Melvins' music progresses the more different they're sound is but, still innovative enough to have a loyal fan bass and still attract new ones with every album. Though on a personal note that recent Tool album that came out just sounds like something they should have released as a second CD with Laterlaurus or whatever. It's a nice album no doubt but, I wanna hear something from Tool that I wouldn't expect. 10,000 Days was just like, "OK...nothing I haven't heard from them before."

EXACTLY!

I've got a picture of Adam at a melvins show, and he's got the biggest, goofiest grin during the whole set.  He looked like he was really enjoying the show.

10,000  Days sounds absolutely nothing like Tool's previous releases.
to say otherwise shows complete ignorance of the last 16 years of Tool's music.

its like Lateralus Part 2, they just inverted the riffs from Lateralus
on half the songs of 10,ooo days. for real man.

(the) Razor

Tool has never changed...

They just learnt how to make their songs longer than the songs on their previous album.
