Can anyone hear a Tool influence on the two new songs, Suicide in Progress, and Billy Fish?  To me they've got an 'epic sound', somewhat related to a 'Tool Sound.'  Is it just me?  Am I crazy?

You're crazy!   :P

[edit] I take that back, actually they do sound vaguely like TooL, but I can't pinpoint an exact song that I could make a comparison to.

How dare you.   [-X  How dare you.   ](*,)  And comming from a moderator at that!!!

As someone mentioned, it is absolutely the other way around.

Seriously though, I can see why you would say that.  But it's still probably more to do with the fact that Tool has that Melvins influence than anything else.

I can vividly remember seeing Tool pre-Aenima when they would play Stinkfist live and think that someone in this band definately has been listening to a lot of Melvins...

The drumming in Billy Fish really reminded me of a Tool song.  That said, the drumming in a lot of Tool songs reminds me of Melvins songs...

I have no idea about a 'Tool' sound but I already don't like this thread.

I haven't heard these new songs you mentioned, but if anything, Tool is trying to sound like Neurosis, not the Melvins.

Damn! That Suicide in Progress riff is tight! I heard it awhile ago, but I guess I forgot about it. Of course, they always play super fast when they're playing live. Thanks for posting Glen.

Does anyone else feel like the main verse is kinda same-y? Maybe like we've heard it before or something close to it? Thoughts?

Yes we've heard this all before.

I don't think the Melvins have ever gone out to try and sound like anyone imparticular. They've always just done they're own thing but, I doubt that they've never been inspired by anyone's ones work. To me they're two entirely different bands that are friends and have inspired each other to keep pushing each other to do more in they're music. You have to admit as the Melvins' music progresses the more different they're sound is but, still innovative enough to have a loyal fan bass and still attract new ones with every album. Though on a personal note that recent Tool album that came out just sounds like something they should have released as a second CD with Laterlaurus or whatever. It's a nice album no doubt but, I wanna hear something from Tool that I wouldn't expect. 10,000 Days was just like, "OK...nothing I haven't heard from them before."
