Huh? I'd bet they won't be heading east again, until the next album comes out. Cleveland/Toronto was the closest. You snooze, you lose.
Seems like a cool thing. Alot of jazz groups do that, residency gigs at clubs. Spaceland is in LA, which is their hometown. Maybe they'll be honing some new material, or digging up some not-heard-in-a-long-time classics.

first night: standard tour set
2nd night: standard tour set played slightly faster
3rd night: standard tour set but the pa system isn't turned on
etc
Definitely going to road trip one of these. I guess tickets go on sale through Ticketweb on Saturday. Curious to know how much they is.
Tickets are technically $20 a pop, but then there are the usual fees...
However, if you're a cool kid like me, you would go to the last date they have, where there is the secret MELVINS MONTHLY PASS ticket option, and you will get a pass to all four shows for $60. After fees and standard mail shipping, mine came out to $68.50. I may have some money left over for merch after all!
The Melvins will practive material all week and then play it on Friday.
If it's different stuff each Friday I hope they record every second of it and release it as a live concert series. That would be great, it would save me a bunch of travel time.
I'd like to see them play Claude live after all these years.

Or, choose the best recordings of the newer stuff from the four shows and do a double LP live album.
How do I get one of those posters ?....lil help here.....Pinky ? anyone ? Bueller ?
1st night: Melvins country hoedown (come wearing overalls and get a free PBR)
2nd night: Melvins disco inferno (coke will be available @ the merch table)
3rd night: Melvins acoustic folk song sing-a-long (bring your own pillow)
4th night: Melvins gospel hour (tambourines will be provided)
All merch for these shows will be made out of chocolate (this includes t-shirts).

I betcha they do something with this. They will for sure be releasing it in some format (most likely, limited edition vinyl) a couple years down the road. Or maybe they will play one of their albums in their entirety, fusing together the best takes like they did with Houdini Live. If this was the case, what record would you want to hear?
For me, it would have to be OZMA
Another thought: Maybe with four shows, they will be playing the Maggot, Bootlicker, Crybaby and COD. Dunno, just throwing it out there
Could OZMA work w/ 2 drummers? :-k

NO MAN. ozma is the ANTI-beat album. sans candy-o.
ain't gonna be no "play a full album" thing. it'll be a conglomeration of the last 4 years of setlists.

It would be dumb of us to assume that we can predict what MELVINS will be doing on these four nights, but what about
interpretations of an album like OZMA, for instance. A re-working of existing material in some live format? A straight up, note for note, re-hash of an old album would be boring, right?
I would be fine with never hearing

THE MELVINS MEET JOHN FANTE
The perversely talented Melvins start their residency for Spaceland Productions at The Satellite with a performance of some of their most challenging works. For their Friday, Jan. 7, show, Buzzo & Co. have programmed their last indie album before the explosion of grunge (Lysol, including Flipper and Alice Cooper covers), an anti-Xmas EP (Eggnog) and, strangest of all, their weirdly experimental Colossus of Destiny, a polarizing 2001 album that pays titular homage to one of Los Angeles' greatest literary chronicles. How so? Colossus of Destiny is the ridiculously ambitious masterpiece the antihero of John Fante's underrated novel The Road to Los Angeles dreams of unleashing on the world. Lesser bands might namecheck Fante's Ask the Dust, but leave it to the Melvins to point their brainy fans to the far more obscure prequel, written in the 1930s but only released posthumously in 1985.

"perversely talented" and "indie" made me roar with laughter. The rest is cock-on.
From Wiki:
Colossus of Destiny is a live album by Melvins, which was released in 2001 through Ipecac Recordings. It was recorded live Friday, December 13, 1998 at Club Mangler, Cupertino, California. It is nearly an hour of synthesizer and sample experimentation ending in a performance of the song "Eye Flys". It was reported that members of the audience were lying on the ground, covering their ears during this performance. The album was originally intended to be the third part of the band's 1999 album trilogy (The Maggot, The Bootlicker and The Crybaby) until the band came up with the guest star idea on The Crybaby.
The name of the album is taken from the John Fante book The Road to Los Angeles, in which the main character, Arturo Bandini, writes a book bearing the name Colossus of Destiny.
Pinky! Sent you a pm!

I wonder how close to the original CoD it's going to sound considering it was mostly improvised. If it's too different I wonder why they didn't just call it something else.
my guess is it will be as close as the 2005 spread eagle beagle is to the original.

"An Hour of Abstract Noise Music, Simililar in Intent (But Not Performed Identically) to the 2001 Release "Collossus of Destiny" by Cult Rock Act The Melvins" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Cant be long now till we get to hear/see some gig talk sooner than later!
wife goes out tonight, I am babysitting. next Fri is my turn.
The show fucking slayed. Ate a lot of weed walked to the venue just in time for the 9:30 start. The first set was a great set of Melvins material ranging from Ozma to Bride. The second set was COD > Eye Flys > Charmicharmicat into all of Lysol and the rest of Eggnog all mixed together. Picked up the vinyl. $50 for a nice piece of art - HAZE XXL letterpress print on the jacket, beautiful vinyl. Just got home.
Yeah, I just got back from it, too, incredibly epic! I felt insane after.
DOES ANYONE HAVE EXTRA TICKETS FOR THE OTHER FRIDAY SHOWS THIS MONTH? Please? I'll buy em. my email is antiflarm@hotmail.com please let me know if you have some you want to sell. Thanks! Melvins!

There were no tickets sold at the door at all. Which sucked because the ticket link on Spaceland's website said "tickets may be available a the door the night of the show." Obviously they had no intention of selling any additional tickets, based on their signs posted on the front door when I drove my ass up there, looked for parking for half an hour, then hiked to the club. Bastards.
When I say bastards I mean Spaceland, not the Melvins, of course.
Speaking of which, does anyone have an extra ticket for the 28th Stoner Witch show? I have one but my friend in San Diego was going to come up and then they sold out.

Yep, Forbes did the GAMH show, and he can command a premium. It's not like Goodtimes did the poster.

Here you go....Only problem is, the white one for the Jan 21st poster is orange. I'm not sure if it was photoshopped in the poster or they really had a white one.
