Last time they came here was when they opened for Down in 2009. It would be nice to see them do a residency or even just a regular set down here, but I am about ready to give up hoping.
Maybe if this state weren't 95% Cuban and Puerto Ricans from New York that listen to shitty music, good bands would want to play here. No offense to Cubans and Puerto Ricans from New York that
might have good taste in music.
Man up princesses. Most of us in the Southern Hemisphere only get a chance once or twice in a decade.
As a Cuban/Puerto Rican from New York, I would like to say I do not take offense to your comment. I can't speak for everyone though.

Can you buy kangaroos down there? If I had a pet kangaroo, they'd carry my beers for me.
No, but I can see a wild one right now as I'm looking at my window and typing this. No shit.

that's kinda odd, as Toronto generally gets a ton of touring bands...i can think of plenty of bands that have skipped Boston and played Toronto.

As a Cuban from Florida, I would like to say he's right, except that he forgot to include all the white rednecks who dwell in the hinterlands.
A friend of mine from back in Indiana just posted on his Facbook that Melvins are playing with Municipal Waste in Munster, IN., which I find hard to believe they would play in a little place like that and not in Indianapolis.
I am sure the Melvins will be playing all kinds of oddball locations on the 51 day States tour. Remember - they only have to play in the state, not the biggest city in the state.
They should play Albany, NY.. It's so close to so many borders of other states. In less than an hour you can be in Vermont, or Massachusetts.. In a few hours you can be in Connecticut or Pennsylvania. Nicely centralized :D
These might turn out to be be psychological / physiological states they're playing in:
1. Happy
2. Rude
3. Scared
4. Drunk
5. On heat
6. etc.

Detroit - Chicago - cheap flight
Chicago - De Kalb - bus
No?
Going to Racine to hangout with my brother and hitting the Milwaukee show. I am not going to be fucked out of seeing the Melvins two years in a row.
chicago... hhmm...
train ride is less than $50.
all well and good.
too bad the taxi ride from there is $100.
and the hotel is $200.

glad to see theyre not at the double door this tour but ive read some bad reveiws about ottos in dekalb.wish they would play at reggies again.
Fuck gotta catch a Dekalb show, it's too weird. It'll be my midwest heavy week. Gliead Media fest in Oshkosh Apr 28th and 29th (Thou, Hell, False, Ash Borer, The Body, Fell Voices, Loss, ect.), Melvins in Milwaukee, then Melvins in Dekalb. I drove home to Rockford a few years ago just to go to the Sunn/Eagle Twin/Ascend show in Dekalb a few years back. It was awesome.

Well that sucks the big one. Nothing in upstate/western NY, even Cleveland got shafted. Closest is a 6 hr drive to West Chester PA(suburb of Philly). It is on a Saturday night, and I could do it, but I don't see myself being that motivated  even though I have yet to see Unsane.
Fuck yeah Milwaukee show! And Turner Hall is a great venue, seen numerous great bands there (High on Fire, Secret Chiefs 3, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum).
since they never come up here i was planing on several road trips (anything around 4hrs from the southern ontario boarder) but now i cant even do that!!! very pissed especially since i just passed up front row seats to see jane's addiction and ga tix for megadeth with motorhead to go to some of these shows, not happy at all
Zero shows in the Great Pacific Northwest? That's seriously fucked and very surprising. Been a long time since they skipped Seattle, Portland and Vancouver entirely on a tour.
Boo hoo hoo.
don't feel bad detroiters, i have them here for the first time in a few years and there's no fucking way the wifey will take a day off so she can watch the kids.

Hire a babysitter? The show is over 3 months away. I was actually considering going to the Nashville show too since it's only a 4 hour drive for me and my semester would have
just ended. I'm still on the fence though.

Just throw a couple of juice boxes and crackers on the floor...I'm sure they'll be fine.
Or lock them in the bathroom, I don't know. If your wifey divorces you over this, sounds like you'd be winning.

Drive or fly. Simple as that and the Melvins are yours. Or move to California like I did. I get to see way more Melvins shows here than when I lived in Seattle.

thats what i'm planning on doing before moving out of the country. either the northeast or west coast. trying to talk the wifey into moving to portland, or. hang with hanzy and try to start a band with my old guitarist who relocated there.

every MELVINS show I've been to in Detroit has been packed. so it isn't a sales issue. I just think its a convienance issue.
when you're working with 4 weeks, period, driving up into Michigan and than back out again is slightly time-consuming.

I sure hope you guys are right. I'm not denying the fact that the shows have been packed, but I do know some Detroit venues are notorious for bad management. They did the stick, then smalls, then...Mount Clemens? That was weird, and unexpected, don't you think? First and only time I've ever been to the Emerald.
The Trevor Dunn/Lite tour is 50 states in 50 days, no? SO it's inevitable to skip. See you there!
51 dates in 51 dates with DC included.
51 consecutive days? :-k
That is what Trevor Dunn himself told me during a conversation at a jazz gig he was doing in LA about a month and a half ago. 51 straight days. It was originally going to be 50 and then they decided to add Washington DC. The only time they are flying is Hawaii and Alaska. The rest of the time they are driving. They are also going to document bring along someone to film the tour. He said Buzz came up with the idea when they were doing the Melvins Lite tour one night and the next day he called their booking guy and said "do it". He wanted to get the ball rolling before anyone could "change their minds".

I'll have to see where I am and what everyone else wants to do but let me know where you guys want to meet when the show rolls around.
They should have a competition to see who can come up with a tour itinerary to cover gigs at 51 states in 51 days WITH THE LEAST MILEAGE TRAVELLED. The one with least mileage wins a Melvins ticket and a map.

The "not knowing" right now is killing me . Hope there's a Buffalo or Rochester date on the schedule, last stop here was '09. I'd settle with Cleveland too. When was the last time they played Syracuse. Saw Clutch/C.O.C. a few weeks ago there at The Westcott Theater. Would be a perfect venue for Melvins. I hope this isn't just a dozen-date "big city" tour. We'll see.
The last time the Melvins played Syracuse was when they played the Fairgrounds as part of Lollapalooza in 1996.
The Westcott Theater is fairly new. I have suggested to the owners to book the Melvins. But they usually book college/hippie oriented stuff. Who knows. Maybe this fall we will get lucky.
I wanted to go to the NYC show but the Mrs and I are expecting a lil one right around the sametime.

almost. The prophecy states that upon the evening of 21st Dec 2012 Buzz and Dale have a catastrophic fall out and the Melvins are no more. It was the run of that many gigs that was the final nail in the coffin.

jules you might have a full flat when the melvins are in brighton,
im thinking i might come down for that, and im guessing im not the only one
im actually annoyed this is announced days after i book the atp ticket , trust me to find a negative in this,
anyway ill just have too see them twice,
if unsane are supporting thats gonna be amazing.
You might all have to sleep standing up but you're all welcome. Unles you snore.
ive had an atp and a night in a hostel in germany ruined by a snorer,
i dont ever want to repeat such a terrible experience.

Snoring is actually linked with being overweight. Henceforth Jules may not snore but its a sure deal that 3/4 of Melvins do! :o

not that that's ever happened to me. 8-[

Im gonna take a wild guess here and say there will be. There's still the 7th-13th and 21st-24th open in the tour schedule. Plus looking at the itinerary so far they seem to be hopping around alot. For example there's two dates in Germany not played back to back so i'd imagine that somewhere in there another uk show is quite possibly set to appear.
Got my ticket. :D

Big Business are playing Hellfest in France june 16th, so it's definitely possible.. let's hope so, it's been awhile since we have seen big biz opening for Melvins

That's another thing that makes FREAK PUKE so great. Two line-ups. Two albums. (well, one EP, one album if you're going to be a jerk about it) Melvins LITE. Melvins HEAVY. LOTS of VARIETY.

So, this was planned last year - and nobody should care but I found it funny regardless - Turns out I'm going to US for two weeks at the end of May - the first time I've been over there in a decade.
Anyway, the day before I arrive - Melvins wrap up their USA tour and are starting one in Europe where I just came from....

rest easy. the chips will fall.
+ 1 = 51 for D.C.
But what will the tour be called? 50 states in 50 days was so catchy. Now it's "50 states plus Washington DC in 51 or however many days we feel like tour". Actually, on second thought, that works just fine.

I'm going to see them in Winnipeg. :D
On my way back from an amazing Melvins show in Orlando! Set was great! Got 3 shirts, one Gluey Porch Treatments letterpress and 2 Bulls and Bees letterpress also(one for flutternuts). First time I've ever spent more than $100 at any show, but I don't mind since it's Melvins.

HAH, OPERA HOUSE AGAIN...
This time make sure to break the arm off the Thermostat untill human effluence is dripping from the walls and ceilings.. keep us standing there for 2 hours, MAKE no announcment that the opener hasn't made it to the show...so we can't just put the Melvins on stage right away because people still haven't shown up to make the show..make us stand 5 hours this time, fuck, I'll go 3 days without food, water, or Encouragement just to see the melvins farting on a snare-drum. :( you know it's true.
The way this venue gets run..is enough to make you weep.
But hey, If the boys don't care, Then I'm fine to slug it out at this place.
I just wish I didn't have to give any of my hard earned dollars to any of the venue.
I'll see you there. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
See you there Blewis :D Gonna be the show of the year for sure. It doesn't seem like 4 yrs since they last played there. I think it's in the main hall this time, not the club side.
Something tells me there won't be any merch on this run though. Buzz has stated that when they tour Canada, they leave the merch behind because they get taxed to death on the stuff. I doubt they would bother to bring anything to Rochester for one night, and to link up with the merch again in two weeks. I hope I'm wrong though.

the merch thing was true last time but they really only did like one show in Ontario and one in Quebec , this time around they have quite a few shows up here so it might be worth it for them to bring it, plus the tour being that far away with a new album i'm sure there will be all sorts of crazy shit they will have out for that tour, i'm just really trying to be positive!!!

I can't wait!
I'll be bummed if they don't bring any merch, but a show I dont have to travel over 4 hrs to attend? Fair enough trade-off.
I'll be at the Calgary/Edmonton shows for sure, hopefully Saskatoon as well. They probably will have Merch this tour as it is a cross Canadian tour like the 2 by 4 tour of 2000 where they had a bit of stuff. After 12 years they better bring me some goodies, as in calgary for sled Island in 2010 they brought nada. SO FUCKING PUMPED!
So the phone rings, and It's my melvins buddy Sean.
I didn't even let him speak a word before I was like, "yeah, June 5"
LOL!!! he was like whoah!!! how did you know?
We might catch them In london and a few other spots besides montreal.

They better squeeze a Seattle show in on 16th.
This is the bio for the Melvins that Cascade Tickets has up for this July's show in Portland. It might be time to update
It hasn't been a year since the last bona fide Melvins album but nonetheless, slated for release is yet another album... However, this here new one is actually a RE-release of the classic Melvins record "10 songs". Of course the NEW one has a NEW super deluxe cover and has been expanded to 26 songs. That's 16 more than the original! The record even includes a secret recording of one of their hometown buddies out of his mind on Angel Dust. This added historical window should fully explain their origin and current message in a way never before captured on record. Even if this reissue is 16 years old you can rest assured this record is up to date! If you get this record you can know there is nothin' or nobody ahead of you. Nobody knows nothin' that you don't know. All the cards are on the table friends and that's a fact!
Dang! It's been damn near 20 years since these Melvins started and they still have yet to find the common decency to die or break up. The core-band of King Buzzo and Dale remains intact and they've had the same bass player since 1998! Hailing from the Minneapolis Cows is pioneering slide bass pervert Kevin "Rutmanis". The Melvins proclaim this lineup the definitive whatever you want to call it of whatever it is they think they do. Nothing should be denied them forever more.
Looks like Retox is opening for the Melvins Lite show in Portland.

I'm thinking about Hamilton, Rochester definitely. Could do it, it's a Saturday night. Cool low-key town, easy to find your way around, saw Nomeansno there this past October.
The thing is w/ The Melvins, you're gonna get the exact same setlist every night. I've seen them do it when they played Buffalo/Rochester back to back nights in '08, but those were both so close to home it was worth it.
finally, a vancouver show! looks like ontario is getting a nice tour.
I might go to the bellingham one as well/.

I'm still convinced Melvins will sneak in a Scottish date after Manchester on 30th May. In Edinburgh......or Glasgow if needs be.
It's possible. They might finish with Bristol or Cardiff again as Bristol's where they keep their equipment. I'd love to see them on the Thekla. Here's hoping.....
Both would be nice, i'm still getting over missing out on tickets for that tiny Bristol show.
Is there any word on if the UK dates will be the four-peice or with Trevor?
I feel like I can't lose either way, if its the four then I should get to see them do Hung Bunny/Roman Dog Bird and Youth Of America for the first time, if its lite then I get to see an awesome and unique show.

Got my Rochester ticket last night. Record Archive has 'em - $17+ $2.50 surcharge. Ticket says it's at the Club side where they played in '08. Cool, more intimate in there. Also of note, at Ipecac's site they show Retox opening all the Lite dates that are posted.
anybody going to Wisconsin or Chicago?
I'm going to the Milwaukee show tomorrow, someone else here is going too, Jozzy I believe?

Even w/ Sgt. Poopypant's Pizza right there, Magic Stick still isn't as good a venue as Smalls. But really it should be at St. Andrew's.
Are Melvins even playing this date? Says select only. I know the 07/03 - 07/18 shows are Melvins shows ... how many of the others? Says July 01 Retox in Brooklyn. Though Melvins are in Rochester that night and Detroit is only 6 days before that, so ...

yeah, I saw that retox date listed at MAGIC STICK about a week ago and got a little over-stimulated myself. knowing that retox is supposedly opening for MELVINS LITE. but reality grabbed me by the banana rather quickly.
but I still believe. I also believe that the opening act will be even better and more interesting than retox. no dis to retox, but suggestions have been flown around. VERY interesting suggestions.
september!! where are you??!?!?!
What I'm wondering is who's opening for Melvins Lite 7/1 in Rochester?. Retox is in NYC that night. I hope the Melvins bring someone they want to have open, but I'm guessing local support. Sulaco(Eric Burke from Brutal Truth's other band) would be awesome, or else Psyopus if they're not out on the road.
7/16 - Victoria, BC Cananda @ 9one9 Club
9/2 - Sacramento, CA @ Ace of Spades
