Oh cool thanks for including us lot in this. Believe it or not i've watched a few of your youtube vids previously. You talk well about vinyl and being a big Sleep fan i appreciated the Matt Pike Roadburn interview.

As for Melvins i actually can't think of anything to ask beyond what was their first albums they owned or listened to often as a youngster. I don't wish to cause a ruckus but i know Buzz thinks CD is better than vinyl. Think he said he sold all his records way back and "upgraded" as he put it, to CD's.

Anyway good luck tonight and link us when the interview is up or something.  :)

I'm glad you like the previous Vinyl Junkies vids, thanks for the kudos.  You've already given me my first question in mentioning the "upgrading to cd" thing, I'll try and stretch that out a bit.  Actually, if you're free, I'd love to maybe have a SKYPE convo with a Melvins fanatic, try and flesh the interview out properly.  I like a ridiculous amount of music so I'm quite sure that there's some Melvins fans on this site that are far more knowledgable on the band than I am.  Contact me if that's cool, thanks.  Oh, and btw, do yourself a favor and check out pt. 2 of the Roadburn interview I did with Mike Scheidt of YOB.  It's really good stuff, very engaging.  Here's a link http://youtu.be/oZTol6iXRYE (http://youtu.be/oZTol6iXRYE)

ask them if there will definitely be a vinyl version for their "Freak Puke" album and "Bulls & Bees" ep. any details on that is appreciated.
also interesting would be if they plan any vinyl reissues in particular from the boner area? and if so; do they have plans to make those reissues "diy" in the style of the recent letterpress CD reissues.

also any info on the upcoming Melvins 1983 10" and possible other new vinyl would be cool.

thank you!

Yeah Mike seems a pretty cool, open guy.

As for Melvins i don't think i would class myself as a fanatic but there are many on here that get closer to that level. Im sure you'll get a few questions thrown your way. Im not into the whole Skype thing (plus im at work right now)  but if you do wish to discuss a detail here or there or have a query shoot me a pm and i'll do my best.

The Mike Scheidt interview was just a blast to do, he's a super humble guy and I wish that EVERYONE would go out and buy a YOB release.  They're brilliant, the world should know.

Hi there Vinyl Junkies666,

I would genuinely appreciate it if you can find the time in your interview to ask Buzz and Dale about a potential re-release of Honky on Vinyl Or CD.

Cheers,
Hort

The rerelease sked varies depending on the label.  But yeah, I'll see if I can get some news on that.  Thanks for the question, keep em' coming.  I'll fit in the best ones of the lot and let them know that it's YOU, the fans, that asked them.  Meanwhile, come join the Vinyl Junkies FB page if you dig music on vinyl.  www.facebook.com/vinyljunkies666 (http://www.facebook.com/vinyljunkies666)

Was there any reason they decided to make Nude With Boots a standard vinyl release instead of an ultra-limited edition release?

Also, if cd's get brought up, how come some releases have the cover on the back but some have the cover on the front?  I know Buzz said that there's more room on the back and it looks better, and I agree, but I would think that rule would apply to all of their albums.

Affordable vinyl represses of the older stuff would be nice.  I know the letterpress stuff is cool, but I'd like a standard repress that would only cost me ~$20

So the interview is done, 28 minutes of rough footage.  They answered almost none of my questions and I think I wind up looking like a fool in it lol.  But it's probably a good Melvins interview nonetheless, the stock answer to most questions was "We don't care".  Looking forward to showing it to all of you and hearing your feedback, the link will be posted here:

I just went through the entire video, it's 28 solid minutes that will be split in 3 parts, ZERO editing needed!  Believe me, you guys are gonna love it, they even trash Courtney Love in it!  Rerelease info as well, part one will go up today.  It will be posted on Vinyl Junkies exclusively for the first week or so, come say hey.  It's actually a really good music/vinyl page.  I should know, I run it:

Nice one. Love the "shooting yourself in the foot" thing between Buzz and Dale there. Something of a more unusual interview from what we usually see too. It didn't seem so "interviewy" if you know what i mean there.

I think the format issue is a somewhat complicated matter and impacts differently upon different bands in different ways. The Melvins prove that they can do what they do within their means i guess. In a way i find Buzzo's stance refreshing because when all is said and done there is nothing you can do in the current climate so the band accept that and venture down other avenues with the limited edition stuff and making the live show the main attraction. I guess that is a good thing really in that the LIVE part of a band is the main focus more so than the bells and whistles studio aspect. Bands can't hide behind the studio but must prove their worth, putting on a good show.

I look forward to more Melvins talk.

All of my interviews are done in the form of an informal type discussion; I've found that it works well for what I'm trying to achieve.  Believe me, the other 2 parts are gold as well.  Especially part 3, when the topic of Courtney Love comes up.  Comments/suggestions are always welcome; ultimately I make these interviews so that you guys (the fans) can enjoy them.  Cheers.

Thanks for the kudos.  I think they enjoyed being challenged and seemed to be engaged and having fun.  At least that's my goal. The other 2 parts of the interview are damn good as well.  Well, at least from my perspective as a Melvins fan, I got stuff out of them that I found to be personally interesting and NOT like every other question/answer interview, but you guys can judge for yourselves.

I pretty much had to work to get stuff out of them.  You'll notice that their answers are kinda cut and dry, so I had to make sure I could keep it interesting enough for me to get something good out of them.  My feeling is that they weren't all that intererested at the beginning but kinda still managed to get caught up in some of the topics.  Had I just gone in with some questions to ask, they would've chewed me up and spit me out.  All things considered, I think I managed ok.

Metallica wasn't right at all.  Illegal downloading just got far more rampant and Lars looked like a fucking fool in the process.  My favorite records were all made on a shoestring budget, I personally don't care if the majors take a nosedive into complete musical obscurity. They don't view music as anything other than another product, another division.

Agreed. What some dont realize is that art in whatever form or medium is a business too. Without business and distribution you would have to literally scour the ends of the earth to find the music you want. Metallica was right but does it matter at all?

More money doesn't equal a quality album.  Exposure is the key to success; if you're talented and/or popular, the money/opportunities will follow.

More money does equal a quality album in the way it is recorded and the instruments used to make it. I'm not talking about strictly talent.

If this scotch doesn't get the better of me, I'll finish up part 2 tonight sometime-ish.

If I had a dollar for everytime I said something similar,  I'd probably have 8 or 9 dollars.

For what it's worth I'm totally cool if you let it get the better of you. Itll be awesome whenever it comes out!

Thanks, dude.  I had a friend in from town for 5 days so it's been crazy.  Plus, I have over 100 records to listen to, picked up a huge collection for peanuts.  So yeah, it's my first real crack at it and it's hella fun times.

the internet has sucked the joy of the journey and discovery from so many things. oh well no going back
Hmm i can see that but i would still say it's a YES and NO on that matter. Personally im still just as into discovering new music now as i ever was.

oh for sure, same here. maybe even more so, but that's part of my point. the elation of rare discovery isn't there so much. the highs aren't as high since it's easy to find what you're looking for, and the lows not so low, cause you can just go download/order more if you miss the target on one. the sheer mass of music we have access to makes each album a little less special.

could just be i'm becoming older and more jaded. there's certainly more factors involved

Having Melvins fans as part of Vinyl Junkies is definitely a plus.  Thanks for subscribing/liking the pages, how it's done.  Very cool non-Melvins giveaway should be up in the next few weeks.

Believe me, part 3 is the best one of all.  Courtney Love, it's all you need to know.  They gave me a pretty rough time during the interview and made sure they disagreed as often as possible.  Thankfully, I have no problems looking like a fool lol.

KICK-ACE interview dude. Just watched all three parts .  The strong point is both sides had really valid and honest arguments.

Their legend stands stronger than ever, and in most recent years seems collecting their stuff has almost become a game for hard-core collectors. As most of us know, their older issues on vinyl are both expensive and hard to find. Sure, we can push aside the newbs and be the first to score the new stuff at the merch stands when we see then live, or sit by the computer and repeatedly smash the OBEY AND BUY NOW button and score the goods like that. (When we do that, we lose the story (like when you bought your record) which is a drag but sometimes that's the only way that it can be scored). Point is, they have small army of devoted followers and know it. They're making money in the smartest way that they can, and I endorse that whole-heartedly. The handmade art just brings it to that next level of special and awesome, and there is always going to be admirers (www.themelvins.net/forum/ (http://www.themelvins.net/forum/)) that want to buy it.

I'll end this rant by saying Buzzo's Courtney with the coat hangers impression had me rolling on the floor

Also, I think they should reissue everything on melvin-themed thumb-drives. Cuz, ya know, that would be ironic and funny.  :D

My interviews are no bullshit.  So is ALL the content on Vinyl Junkies, and I have no intention of changing the formula.  Question and answer type deals are usually boring and repetitive; I prefer to try to extract something interesting and unique from my conversations with artists.  The interview was amazing, but I honestly got the feeling that they were purposely being obstinate.  Getting past that whole "we don't care" attitude was challenging, but ultimately I think I stuck to my guns and it made for some interesting viewing.  For those who aren't aware yet, come say hey:

Giving away Conan's latest album on wax right now, it crushes.  Hard.

Of course! Should have known Buzz would have thrown a movie reference in somewhere.

Buzzo should be a movie critic. Be in a satirical "At The Movies with Buzzo & Ebert" show.

Yeah, I totally dug their irreverance as well.  Kinda knew they were gonna try fucking with me, but it makes for a good interview.

The Eye Flys snippets was so so so so heavy. I've actually been avoiding audio and video footage from the Lite tour so that's the first I've seen/heard from it. SO HEAVY. Is that a new Mumu?

Yeah man. You stayed super cool throughout the interview. And you got to touch Buzzos hair
Lucky ducky, you.....

Well played.

Great interview! I really enjoyed all three videos and the fact that it wasn't your standard interview, but more of a discussion. It was particularly cool to see Dale speak up more than he usually does.

Mind you he probably doesn't feel comfortable talking about the band since he's not a long time or "proper" member i guess.
