thanks
Oh right, he was one of the guest drummers the last time they rolled through and played Spread Eagle Beagle live.

there was an All- Drum Album Discussed with Dale on that Radio interview Jules posted here from the hotb0x Radio show a while back, and Dale was Saying something like that wasnt likely to happen due to Lack of Interest...again, this is exactly why This needs to happen!
this is gonna be so cool.
I mean, Dale Crover-Drumb is disgustingly Rad! I mean seriously guys this will be one fucked up Project!
holy shit. this is grand news.
when were they thinking about doing this ?
my ears are itchy in anticipation ...
sooner the better. :D
Huh, what do you mean? Didn't they say they were already done recording and it's going to be out in January? It's in the first post...
Coady just posted this on twitter:
"Did you know that @DaleCrover @joeplumdog and I recorded an all drumming record called @HewTime? It comes out March 25 on @JoyfulNoiseRecs!" - CoadyWillis
HOLY CRAP

hell.
fuckin.
yes.
YES
It will be the greatest thing ever and you can quote me on that!
something tells me this isnt gonna be your Everyday Run-of the Mill ALL-procussion Albums...
Haha as if theres ample supply of all-percussion albums in the ROCK genre.
I cannot wait! This is gonna be pure Insanity
Buzzo Goes solo and then Dale and Coady are feeling left out and thought this would be the right time for this to happen!
Jared should do a bass and vocals album
I hope someone with some sampling/ sequencing skills will do a mashup of Buzzo Solo Acoustic and these beats. I know I sure can't do it, but that would kick ass!

I also love how the record is pressed to look like a cymbal.

agreed on all counts.
based on the associated pic it looks like this was possibly recorded, or at very least rehearsed, in the MELVINS practice space.

looks like the gold vinyl is still there. .. for now.
Ordered(gold one). The two-color version literally sold out as I was placing my order. Joyful Noise website is slower than dogshit.
Real glad JN put this out and not AmRep, cuz it would have been $30 and ltd to 200 and done.
Suprising the two-colored is sold out already. I've ordered the gold one as well. I cant wait to hear this, I cant find any samples, track previews..

I was so aggravated placing the order. Took me a half hour to get thru it, ordered as guest. Luckily I'm home today due to a blizzard, or I might have missed this.
I really hate the new technology and how fast facebook/social media gets the message out, where everyone finds out about things like this instantly, and can just order it from their smartphone from anywhere. 10 yrs ago it was no problem to buy anything ltd online. Now no matter what it is, it sells out quick, not just Melvins-related. Egay's also part of the problem. Watch how many of these pop up there before they even ship from JN.

Wasn't able to get the black and gold version but got the all gold one. Looking forward to it!
When I saw this go on sale, I had no idea the 500 would sell out in a day. I really like the cover, it kind of looks like an old jazz record.
Yeah me neither...I cant believe it!
a lot of them probly got bought up by indie shops though, most likely if you scower around the City beat for a copy you might only take a 12%-15% Markup.

VIP members got a crack and the limited version a day early, and I think they have quite a few VIPs so that is probably why the black/gold sold out so fast after it was publicly announced.

I had the same problem, 2nd attempt worked well - I emailed them to let them know, since they only allow 2 downloads, and they reset my DL counter.
Also I've liked them so far as well, got the Dumb Numbers album back when it came out - they even sent out a couple label stickers. I just signed up for their VIP (5 bucks a month) to see how that works.

Yes the Joyful Noise folks are amazingly awesome in the are of customer service. Haven't tried the download code yet but love the LP. Only listened once so far but it was a pretty amazing musical soundscape journey. I totally zoned out on it. Great stuff!
I listened to it a couple of times and it's good stuff but I'm guessing it's better on headphones, but then again most albums are.

This is totally unrelated, but I found this out a ways back when I was posting and it really makes formatting pictures easy in html.
So normally you hit the Insert Image button and it produces "[img][img]" (without the quotes obviously) and you usually paste the link between the two right.
So if you change the first "[img]" to "[img height=500]" it will force the image to be 500 pixels tall. It will automatically adjust the width to keep the ratios right.
Anywhoos.... :nerd:

I like collecting Melvins and Melvins-related stuff. Who the hell wouldn't buy something rare that they know they'll love to have when presented with the opportunity? Isn't that the whole point, getting people to actually buy it because it actually *feels nice* to have it? Why would bands put out nice, handmade/limited edition stuff if wasn't that way? Oh, that's right, people wouldn't buy it, because there wouldn't be anything special about it. I don't have a turntable in this apartment. I'll get turntable when I get it. That can wait. The vinyl could not wait, so I got it, and one day I'll play it, and I'll enjoy it. Some people pay way more than this for concert posters, because they find it nice to have them. Is this such an unpopular opinion?

Agreed. I did it, too. Then I snagged my mom's record player. She only listens on digital devices, anyway. You gotta do what you gotta do, to get your Melvins fix!
Does anyone else know how much 1000 LP's weigh and how much fuckin' space they take up? No thank you!

nice! According to wiki, Lou named the band after some bullshit lyric that he was always singing. And that's him on the cover of Bakesale ( baby reaching into toilet). I like them. I think that in a lot of ways they're like the Melvins. In a lot of ways, not so much. I don't really care if Grayfro hates them. Just can't wait to see his next kickass avatar! :P
One of the funnest Melvins shows I've seen was when Folk Implosion was opening for them. Lou and I think it was Imaad came out in their underwear and jumped on Buzz during their last song. It was hilarious to see the look on Buzz's face. You could tell right then that they were all old friends. It was a great show and if I remember right Dale played with FI on their last song of the set. I can't remember the song though, some classic rock song.
edit*- It was "We're An American Band".
I got some delicious grape-flavoured laffy taffy in the mail the other day.
Oh yeah, there was some record in there too.
I found the record to be quite jammy, and not atonal at all. It reminds me of Jerry Garcia's first solo album, Hooteroll? , and that record had about a dozen players (including a brass section ).

Yeah, didn't you know Dale & Coady are closet Dead fans? They pass the bong around and listen deeply to Bill & Mickey's 40 min drum jams.
Seriously, this LP is sort of jam-centric, but did not remind me of The Dead at all, and I used to own that Garcia CD. Listening to Hew Time made me want to throw on some live King Crimson Double Trio. Other than Dale/Coady, Bruford/Mastellotto are the greatest dual drum lineup.

I went thru a slight Dead phase in the early '90s before I was saved by the music of Frank Zappa  There are some great songs by the Dead scattered throughout their spotty catalog. And there are some great live moments through the endless hours of shit over the years.
My fave Dead recording is this: Blues For Allah premiere, 8-13-75 GAMH, SF:
Help On the Way / Slipknot (Grateful Dead -One From The Vault) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdTfNlxAXi0#)

I love how the Dead just divides people right down the middle ... just like Melvins ... punks is hippies ... Buzz should grow a big ass beard an' shit.
I pretty much dig 'em carte blanche ... live anyway ... don't or never did listen to much studio stuff ... but man live they were outta sight ...
but it's the whole deal with them ... they were just them ... to a fault even ... and in the face of everything else current, popular or accepted they just forged this weird little world of their own ... musically, culturally, socially ... something that's unmistakable when considering/debating who they were and what they did.
As for Frank ... yeah well same kinda deal, right ...

i got one, too. If his is gone, try me. Hoping it goes to a seBADoh fan, and not a Grayfro. :D
Is that Sebadoh bad or something? I haven't downloaded mine yet.
Don't worry Meezslice, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole!
Sebadoh is the greatest! I just bought the CD when it hit the streets last year. I love the album, but that download code won't be finding it's way into my Walkman! So i want to give it to a melvinmaniac who wants it.
Going back to this record today and loving it. Great to listen to at work..anyone else digging this album as much as I am? Any other recommendations on similar vibe drum recordings I an get my hands on?

I really love it too. I guess Max Roach M'BOOM is a good place to start. It's the album that inspired Hew Time and it's fantastic. Especially when you throw both on a playlist and hit shuffle!

I really like listening to So Percussion's stuff, here's a clip of them performing a steve reich piece and a performance they did here in minneapolis a couple years ago. they're typically all percussion but the performance did have some guitar and electronic stuff at times

From JN (will be available from tomorrow):
We're pleased to introduce you to Hew Time, "Seconds": a limited 3x7" release from the all-drumming project composed of Dale Crover, Joe Plummer, and Coady Willis. You may know these dudes from their amazing other bands: Melvins, Modest Mouse, Big Business, The Black Heart Procession, The Shins, Murder City Devils, and... who are we forgetting... oh yes, Nirvana.
"Seconds" features six new unreleased tracks from the group, with music contained on Side A, and Side B featuring badass etchings of Dale, Joe and Coady.
The release is limited to a one-time pressing of 850 hand-numbered copies. Plus, 175 copies are pressed on gold vinyl! The gold vinyl is distributed randomly to those that order... like a golden ticket. Like from that one movie...

it's a vip item until today, then it'll be for everyone. golds will be randomly inserted in ordered
I downloaded the wav files for the last album when I ordered it and can't find them. Must dig deeper!
Man I hope I get the gold. So it's just random, doesn't matter when you ordered it?
Ordered it after thinking about it for a day. I'm a drum freak & I loved the first release, so why not. I would rather it had been another 12" slab than 3 one-sided 7 inchers, but it's a unique packaging concept and limited so sure.
I wonder if they filmed any of this session.
Mine was in the mail when I went home for lunch. Just DYING to know if it's the GOLD. Should've just brought it back with me.
No gold for me here, #512/850. About to spin it. I notice they are slightly dished. Doubt it will effect play.
No gold. :(
350/850
P.S. There is a note inside about how they are dished but should play fine. Guess Chief didn't get the note.

I'm a VIP mainly for melvins related items, but a lot of their releases spark my interest. VIP price is well worth it when the album/single release price is as reasonable as it is.

Does this release include mp3's as well? I didn't see anything in the description saying it included a mp3 download.
I could swear I saw the page when I bought it, but was busy at the time. Maybe I'm wrong.
Success! Just got a link.
Apparently when I cancelled my VIP subscription they closed all my accounts. Including stuff I already bought.
edit: there is no download at that link. They said there is a code in the package. I found no code. Urge to kill growing again.......
Anyone else get a code in their package?

No code with my black vinyl #252. I don't think it mentioned a download code.
Their e-mail to me said; exact words, "there should be a code in the package".
Oh well, if I don't get it so be it.
Just write them and ask for a passcode if you dont get one. I had the same problem with my FLAC file download that came with the SC3 UR single and I had to contact the WOM Administration and was given another code to try again. no worries.

correct, it's 12 if you flip the record... for die hards only... i pass, this thing is super fragile, plus its lathe cut and will sound respectivly...
Already sold out...they were $100 a pop, total of 127 made.
I really wanted one, but I've been buying a bit too much of late.
"This 12-sided record format required Crover to work within a highly constraining framework... kind of like a haiku. To comply with the format, Crover had to compose twelve separate pieces of music, each less than 30 seconds in length. What emerged from this rigid experiment were twelve distinct musical trajectories, which have themselves become the seeds for Crover's upcoming full-length album (slated for release in 2017)."

"A note about the price: Yes, it would be totally insane to pay $100 for 5 minutes of audio. But music is not all you are buying here. This is one of the most unique records ever made in the history of music. Each of the 127 copies required over an hour of work to make, not to mention the countless hours that were put into the design, composition and recording. If you cannot afford this art object, feel free to wait for Dale's full-length. But to those who can afford it, you can comfort yourself in the knowledge that in the not-too-distant future this record will be sold on Ebay for a far more obscene amount of money. $100 is the least expensive price you'll ever see for this one-of-a-kind record."

But to those who can afford it, you can comfort yourself in the knowledge that in the not-too-distant future this record will be sold on Ebay for a far more obscene amount of money. $100 is the least expensive price you'll ever see for this one-of-a-kind record."
 Don't get me wrong, if I was flush with cash I would buy it...it looks awesome.

Really? I never even got an email. Shit.
Same here.
Mine was in the spam folder. Why all of a sudden did it go to spam? This whole VIP thing has been quirky and confusing. But it doesn't matter, I wouldn't have bought it anyway.

Shit! Should have made this it's own thread and I'd look like a genius, just like Buzzinthebox. #-o

100 dollars for 5 minutes and 3 seconds of music :?
Madness but clearly there are some people out there willing to pay it. The next test will be when the Melvins release an album of static in a cardboard sleeve with a hand drawn middle finger on the front cover.
You're telling me not a single Joyful Noise subscriber ordered this just because of the concept and execution, despite not knowing anything about the Melvins or Dale? It's a cool ass record if you ignore the price. :D

There was an exchange in here where some dude called them out for making it and their quality to which the label proverbially and literally told this guy to go fuck himself. Shame they deleted the post.
Don't get me wrong here, but how is this 12 sided record??? (listed as that on Joyful Noise).
It has 6 holes allowing you to play 6 different grooves on either side of the record. This means the record still has an A & B side or 1 & 2. That's not 12 sides. A 12 sided figure is called a "Dodecagon". A turntable will not play this.

 great point, but I believe you're going to have to reorient the position of the tone arm/ stylus 12 times to play all 12 tracks.

I'd like to see this beautiful vinyl from Joyful Noise on a turn table, if someone would video it.
O:)
