Yeah, that's total bullshit. Fortunately the commenters seem to understand Buzzo and disagree with the headline.
(I guess people on this site still have some brain left in their head, unlike, say, Alternative Nation)
I hate how the most news coverage and attention Buzzo usually attracts when he says something about Cobain or Metallica or other "rock stars" or whatever, and people get OFFENDED.
So it's pretty much like all those blogs and sites and other news sources always try to portray him as a dick and a "jealous" cranky old man.
Such kind of misunderstanding really pisses me off.
How much of these shows are turning into a standup comedy/spoken word thing ? I could listen to Buzz yap on and on for hours. Great stuff. I cracked up at the part about having his own shark story.

I'll take the stage banter, but not if it takes away from the total amount of music that they play. I think the shows where Buzz said anything were the longest shows that I attended, anyway. Stag, Maggot, Melvins Lite headlining tours.

Well ... AT WORST, that story sounded less like a dig at Grohl and more like a dig at Josh Homme (and possibly Alain Johannes for some reason), but I'm not even sure that it's that. It really sounds more like Buzz making fun of his own momentary lapse in self-possession. I can totally relate to that situation where you don't mean to sound dismissive of someone's attempt to be nice but still somehow do. I should have the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme on my phone for those sorts of moments.

Agreed. It is a bit rude to turn down an old friends request to attend a show they are putting on for a baseball game. I think Buzz is acknowledging how he screwed up Dave's attempt to reconnect.
I didn't think Buzz sounded like sour grapes whilst telling the story. I also do not think he was being rude.
I do, however, think he has a great sense of humor (and from what I understand, a mad passion for baseball).

I know most hate Dave on here and also bands like TCV and QOTSA but his drumming on Songs for the Deaf was great also if you ask me.

I don't really get the Grohl hate. I don't really like the Foo Fighters but the dude is a killer drummer. Anything he's ever played drums on is top notch in my opinion. I also think he's a pretty funny guy. I just don't think he deserves to be dismissed so much just because of the Foo Fighters.

I love Buzz. I love the Melvins. But, Jesus! I can't paint myself into that corner. He likes a lot of stuff that I don't. He dislikes a lot of stuff that I like. Jack Black has a punchable face these days because of the awful movies he's been in but Tenacious D are pretty good in small doses. They're worth checking out if you think high energy, humorous, mostly acoustic rock is something you'd enjoy.

It's odd that Buzz doesn't mention Homme at all, as if he didn't know he was in that band. Didn't Melvins play some shows with Kyuss, or Queens in their early days? I thought I saw a Kozik poster from the late '90s.

Certainly not in my top ten (or even 20) but I dig their output up to and including 'Songs For The Deaf' ... everything after ... meh ... I don't think I've even heard 'Era Vulgaris' all the way through; who knows? Not me.
Really dig all the 'Desert Session' releases though ... those really shine ... they should do some more already.
Also, again while not my favorite guitar player or anything; I dig Homme's playing alot ... guy has a great style, approach and sound to his playing ...

My thoughts on the "Radio Interludes", exactly. Got old before the first time I listened to the album all the way through. A validation of my system of editing down everything I listen to cassettes!

Some of the radio interlude stuff is pretty funny I think. Kyuss has always just bored the fuck outta me. Queens lost it when they kicked Oliveri out. Lullabies to Paralyze is about half n half for me, but you can hear the lack of "crazy meth bass" input on it. I love Hommes guitar playing though. The solo on Little Sister kills me, it's so good!
the Queens split with BEAVER, their s/t and most tracks on Rated R shine.
All Songs for the Deaf does is collect dust.

As BH said, a few of the radio snippets are ok ... I like the Spaninsh one ... mostly 'cause I dig how they Spanish-ized the riff behind the voice ... but yeah, overall got old quick and now just kind of a sore thumb in the proceedings
As for Kyuss ... yeah those vocals ... my Playmate of the month turn off for sure. Never was able to investigate that band 'cause the vocals rubbed me so wrong ...

I don't mind the radio interludes on SFTD. They're a kind of thematic glue. Maybe.
The title track on Songs is excellent.
Nick's contribution to the band is over-rated. I'd be perfectly happy without songs like "Six Shooter" and "Just Another Love Song." Not "Autopilot" and "Ode to Clarissa," though. That being said, he's still the best bass player they ever had, especially compared to their current one.

I luv this shit and have for years now. Let's not forget that Buzz introduced Dave to Kurt and recommended Dave to play drums for Nirvana. In my opinion Dave should be forever grateful to Buzz. Apparently Dave got all butt hurt when Buzz and Dale slammed Foo Fighters when it first came out. Dave had probably 10 million fucking dollars in the bank and he could have done anything musically he wanted to do but instead Dave decided to follow that Nirvana song writing 'formula' and gobble up as much of the Nirvana fan base he could to make 100's of million$. I thought the first album was ok and I kinda like 'My Hero' (obviously about Dale while lifting the Night Goat drum beat) and 'Everlong' but after that is was pure Poopville. Great drummer but as a band leader and lead singer the guy is a huge calculated poser. Straight from the RocknRoll 101 handbook. Can't wait for the next chapter of this saga! :lol:

Dave had probably 10 million fucking dollars in the bank and he could have done anything musically he wanted to do but instead Dave decided to follow that Nirvana song writing 'formula' and gobble up as much of the Nirvana fan base he could to make 100's of million$. I thought the first album was ok and I kinda like 'My Hero' (obviously about Dale while lifting the Night Goat drum beat) and 'Everlong' but after that is was pure Poopville. Great drummer but as a band leader and lead singer the guy is a huge calculated poser. Straight from the RocknRoll 101 handbook. Can't wait for the next chapter of this saga! :lol:
Considering all the musicians pissing and moaning about how they can't make money selling records Grohl sounds pretty smart to me. The more everyone hates him the more it makes me want to like him. Maybe of I'll check out his music sometime :lol:

:lol: That video is hilarious. I love Grohl. I'm saying this not owning anything he's done but as a person, I think he is pretty smart actually and he's funny as hell. He seems like a pretty grounded dude and I bet he's a blast to hang out with. I mean I don't know him personally but to me he seems like a decent person.

I think that's what I like the most about him. He doesn't come across as somebody who takes themselves too seriously.
In grohls defense, after all the shit buzz has said about him, Dave's never said a bad thing about buzz, and still shows gratitude to him when his influences come up. Quite frankly, they kinda need to give it a break. Buzz sounds more butthurt than Dave really.

Buzzo once said the older he gets, the more he looks like an old woman - and that made him happy. A stark contrast to most, if not, all musicians and celebrities out there.

I caught the last 40 minutes of Sonique hIWAYS, last night.
It was about L.A.-The Germs, The Runaways, Rodney On The ROQ, As well as Palm Desert, Kyuss, Rancho De Luna.....
It was interesting and entertaining, but or coarse, I was watching it with the volume almost all the way off and the CC on. The song at the end was pure shite. Dave was likeable, but I still want as little to do with him as possible.
I always liked Dave, he does seem different now than how he was before and during his time in nirvana. I'd have to meet him to know. Check out this poster brian drew! I only had $13 but he still let me buy this, I need to thank him again at another show. He said to just get this poster out of his sight then laughed. I've just been reading elsewhere about people's opinions (good and bad) about Grohl. It got me wondering what would have happened to Melvins if he had joined them as a second drummer (like Coady did) which Buzz suggested to him back when Nirvana ended. Would Melvins have got a hell of a lot bigger off the media attention and name or would their careers continued as they have done.

No Foo Fighters. Which is its own reward.
I had to learn That Foo fighters song "Hero" or whatever...There's a few cool Drum lines in it...but the more I played it out on Drums the more and more I realized it's pretty much the Drum line from Night goat sped up a little with a few different accents and some variations and a non-offensive bass line... a bit understandably.
this may be something more subconsciously recognized once you try to play it, I wonder if they even knew it while they were writing it. I doubt any of the fans would notice.
Dale is a big inspiration to all drummers, I mean come on!
He does exactly what he needs to do, exactly when he needs to do it.
And he's even a great singer and guitar player first and foremost, He's Just such a cool guy.
Anyway Dave seems like a good guy too, he's doing his best for himself.
It's a bit silly to have an opinion on him as a person unless you know him. Foo fighters are pretty good...Those songs are definitely still stuck in my head from when I was a kid in the 90's. There's so much Kurt Cobain songwriting in there it's hard to know where the line is drawn between where Nirvana Stopped and Foo Fighters started sometimes. A lot of musical rudiments are general, especially when it comes to Catchy tunes.
When you're a Melvins freak it Just gets stuck *in* there somewhere and ultimately there's nothing wrong with that...it Just means it's good music.
Dave was a big Melvins fan, he rates them very highly and I'm sure nothing would sway that opinion even despite the years of distance between them.
It's tit for tat IMO. I would have done the same thing ditching Dave, sorry man...It's hard to be left out by your friends...honestly, you gotta be reminded how it feels. You don't get over that shit so easy once the damage has been done. ESPECIALLY if you helped them out and they never return in kind and you're sort of left confused.

When I first heard night goat I was Just blown away as a kid..I showed it to my friend when we were first learning to play guitar and he didn't like it because he said it was too repetitious. I think he missed the point, to me it Just opened up a mean dark world of heavy fuckin' Rock and roll with that pounding intro, straight into the drop. What a simple little bass lick but it's so effective that way...I don't know where it came from but could it have de-evolved from 80's Thrash metal? I don't know..it's a stand alone Riff, over and over...It's so hellish and cruel.
Speed it up and it would become a good hair-metal sort of thing with like those high pitched YEeaaaaaaaa-AAA-aaAAAAaaaoooww!!! screams in there for good measure...Take anything from Oven and speed it up a little bit and it's total Thrash metal, It's what they are NOT playing that makes it so out of whack. How they got it so tight is beyond me, no band I know can do something so mischievous.
Think of the Riff from boris and play it as if it was like a slayer guitar line at 90MPH and you'll be like WOAH! he's right!!! It chugs along like any general heavy metal does. The creative break through was in mutating it and going slow. Another thing about how Buzz maybe Came up with the Open tuning in Boris may have stemmed from utter frustration during a song writing session where maybe his guitar wasn't holding tune and he got pissed off and Just Dropped the damn string down in utter disgust. Fuck you guitar!!! And it caught on, someone realized god damn now THAT is a sound!!!
I mean, His Les Paul was vintage when he bought it right? maybe it was right around when he first got it that it was giving him some problems, Guitars can be temperamental things when the are in the hands of a new owner...and the owner himself may be equally temperamental from time to time, especially doing the best they can with what they got.

Thinking back to that infamous video I do recall one thing I didn't notice anywhere in this thread.
Buzz stated at some of those acoustic shows that he had an "asshole story" and a "hero story" (The Iggy Pop story), a key part of the story that "calling out" video didn't catch at all.
Buzz stated that he was the asshole in the "asshole" story for blowing Grohl off. I remember this vivdly at the Louisville show. In another variation on that tour he also stated that Mackie told him that "you're literally the only person who would've done that".
that's why we need to petition the guy to change the youtube video title. it doesn't fit the tone of the story at all. I cringe every time I see it #-o
