I'm thinking back to when someone asked Tom Flynn about this and he said something along the lines of the LPs not being limited so that'd be a huge plus.

Ok...I'm old and old fashion. I haven't mail ordered more than a handful of times in the last 20 years. Which is better between the two options in this thread? Should I just wait and buy these from my local record store? If these aren't limited then why should I mail order? Why do I ask so many fucking questions??!?
I would go with Midheaven, I got all the Rudimentary Peni
stuff from them awhile back and everything went smoothly.
Midheaven is probably the official distro, which means fewewrr middlemen. I would have to think that's a good option. Supporting local record stores is always a good option too.
Do you think they'll ship it out to record stores?

QuoteThe Melvins Resurrect Early Material for New Vinyl Reissues
By Gregory Adams
While the Melvins' back catalogue got even deeper this fall via the release of Hold It In, a series of some of the band's oldest records are being put back in the spotlight for a vinyl reissue campaign.
Boner Records is set to deliver a pair of double-LP packages on January 20 that slap together a few early releases. First up is a double set for 1989's Ozma and 1991's Bullhead. As explained in a press release, Ozma was recorded shortly after the band moved from Washington State down to San Francisco, with the release also being the first to feature bassist Lori Temple Black. The album includes patented "distorted, down-tuned doom riffs."
The songs on Bullhead, on the other hand, are said to be longer than previous work, with the mood of the album described as "calmer, yet more menacing."
The records will come remastered and packaged in a gatefold sleeve featuring the original artwork and never-before-seen photos. The set also comes with a download card.
Also gathered up as a double LP is 1991's Eggnog EP and 1992's Lice-All (originally issued as Lysol). Eggnog featured quick blasts like "Hog Leg," described as sounding like "a syphillitic Jimmy Swaggert trying to mimic Dio while being backed by a drunken ZZ Top cover band."
Lice-All, meanwhile, was the band's last album before moving to major label Atlantic and is also the first release to feature bassist Joe Preston (Earth, Thrones). The sludge-styled cycle is described as "one long, slow, loud blob of drones, moans and fuzztones."
This package also arrives in a gatefold sleeve adding vintage photos to the original artwork.
Ozma/Bullhead:
1. Vile
2. Oven
3. At A Crawl
4. Let God Be Your Gardener
5. Creepy Smell
6. Kool Legged
7. Green Honey
8. Agonizer
9. Raise A Paw
10. Love Thing
11. Ever Since My Accident
12. Revulsion / We Reach
13. Dead Dressed
14. Cranky Messiah
15. Claude
16. My Small Percent Shows Most
17. Candy-O
18. Boris
19. Anaconda
20. Ligature
21. It's Shoved
22. Zodiac
23. If I Had An Exorcism
24. Your Blessened
25. Cow
Eggnog/Lice-All:
1. Wispy
2. Antitoxidote
3. Hog Leg
4. Charmicarmicat
5. Hung Bunny / Roman Bird Dog / Sacrifice / Second Coming / The Ballad Of Dwight Fry / With Teeth
So, Solos next ?
Three opinions here...
One is that I agree that the new design on liceall and bullhead are problematic....
Two is I think the album pairs should be switched? Even though licesol and eggnog should be mashed up to make the best album of all time!!!
Three, $25 is a steal for the set. Won't be surprised if the altanics are $25 a piece.

I think the new designs are fine.
I think if they were gonna switch pairs it would have to be Bullhead/Egg Nog. Because I've always felt that Egg Nog was just an extension of Bullhead. The Ozma- First boner release, Lice All last Boner release.
But it doesn't matter! It's four separate LP's, so you can arrange them in on the shelf any way you want!

It's still nice to know where the individual songs start and end.
I'm mostly concerned with whether or not it's cut into
individual tracks if and when the cds come out.
I ordered these, but my patience for standing over a turntable ran out over a decade ago.

One of my biggest pet peeves in music as the payoff is never worth the wait and the minute you have a computer the magic is lost. I love how the Melvins approached it on the Honky album, 25 minutes of silence with no payoff at all. That's still better than a throwaway remix or instrumental diddling.
The "track zero" shit was bad too but bands wisely stopped doing it when CD players could no longer do such a function.

Oh yeah, I hate that shit.
I only have one CD where the hidden track is before the first, Harvey Milk's "The Kelly Sessions".
Nine Inch Nails-Broken
When I first bought Broken it came with a 3" CD that had Physical and Suck on it. No hidden tracks. It was badass but unfortunately I was a fucking idiot when I was a kid and I pawned it probably for cigarettes or some weed.
Never saw that version again. I truly regret selling that.
Yeah I own that version - really cool having that little CD and nicer than having the 91 1 second tracks on the Broken CD!

I bought it on cassette when it came out. My friends with cds were telling me about that. The cassette had the six tracks (2 of which were intros) on side A, the other two tracks (Physical and Suck) at the end of side B. That sucked.

I would usually record other stuff from the band on the blank tape.
I took the Sonic Youth-Dirty cassette, which had 6 minutes of blank tape at the end,
and recorded the bonus tracks from the 100% single in that space.
Made an excellent album even better. But blank tape for approximately the first half of side B?
Who the fuck wants that?
Reckon Boner will also reissue the 3 band member EPs? To me it doesn't look like it. Why would they reissue all the Boner stuff at the same time except for these ones? Would be a real shame.

So, who exactly remastered these? Still haven't pre-ordered yet. Will probably buy these, just hoping they're sonically improved, especially Ozma & Bullhead.

I remember watching 'salad' as a teen and thinking that the guy playing bass couldn't be the same guy on the cover of the Joe Preston record. Given the melvins confusing track record of bass players and lack of themelvins.net bassist morgue at the time, I assumed it was just another short lived bass player.
And I fully expected to see Lorax on bass given that she had been on the your choice live album recorded 4 months earlier.

I suppose it has to do with the fact that "Candy-O" wasn't on the original record either. It was a bonus track for the CD release, apparently. I never knew that before.
Might also have to do with licensing or may not have fit. If they could have done it they should have just had a bonus 7 with Candy-O and Euthanasia. But that may have licensing issues also.

Yeah, that's a bummer. I suppose maybe they wanted to distinguish them from the original releases? But keep the artwork? It kinda seems like the actual artwork is CD sized in the middle of that black field. One of the reasons for wanting to have them on vinyl is the large format artwork. At least they'll sound amazing.
In other news, Amazon still has not shipped...
thats basically it. the original artwork was done for the scale of a CD,
if they enlarged it to album size it would be pixellated due to the
lack of resolution.

that's strange, i think the artwork on my original vinyl pressings looks fine. i could see it maybe with the eggnog 10" art if there wasn't a high enough res of the original art to push out to 12" though
hmm, then it must be a case of differentiated art so as not to confuse the new release with the old?
Yeah, that would be the main reason I presume.
Considering the price of Original LPs compared to the re-issue, you dont want any trouble distinguishing between the two.
What? There's no copyright date on the back?

Those that got to hear it or Naken Rob himself, is the quality any better?
I am lucky enough to have the originals and personally don't mind them on vinyl. Just want to know if it is really worth getting them again. Stag on the other hand. Well hopefully Third Man do sort that out as expected.
I'll be getting them someday regardless but I am very curious as to the sound of the remastered Bullhead.
I got these in the post this morning.
They were only posted out yesterday! The usual excellent service from Norman Records in the UK.
Not listened to them yet though, still waiting for permission off the boss to put them on!

Yup, I had pre-ordered the reissues from amazon but cancelled and ordered from somewhere else. The last two records I got from amazon were both damaged because of the hassle free mailer they use. The last one they gave me for free because I ended up being on the phone for over an hour trying to get them to ship a replacement and they couldn't because the computer wouldn't let them :? I also ordered a hardcover book from amazon recently that was put in an oversized box with no packing material and the dust cover was messed up by the time it got to me.
There's no doubt, any one of Amazon's hands doesn't know what its other five million hands are doing at any given time. Thanks for freaking me out guys. I'm sure mine will be just fine. [-o<

How are people getting them at record stores already? I thought the official release date was Tuesday?!
De-lurking to ask a dumb question: are these Boner reissues limited at all? Done some searching but haven't found anything so I figured this would be the best place to ask. It doesn't look like it...but you never know with this band.
My local record shop is trying to get them in for me but hasn't confirmed yet...getting a bit antsy and afraid I'll miss out.
If they want to make money I can't see them making them limited to 5000 or something like that.
I could definitely see these being repressed and made for the masses when their supply runs out.
Just guessing here. Tom, Boner guy, has probably been waiting for this ship to come in for two plus decades. He would want to press as many as possible.

That was kinda my thoughts as well...someone else in this thread mentioned that Boner is starting to become active again so the $$$ that these reissues will bring in will go a long ways towards supporting that.
So can anyone who has their grubby hands on these comment on the "remastering"? Did they just make everything louder?

Random guy on fb says yes. I asked specifically about Bullhead. He was never heard from again. :-"

I've listened to Lysol and a quick flick through Bullhead and I'd say they've done a proper remastering rather than just making it louder. It seemed to me that the bass is a lot more in the mix on Lysol.
Midheaven shows these as out of stock now. :?

The bass sound is huge on the orig CD to begin with, I can't imagine how insane this remaster will be. Should have it in a few days.

Anyone get a shipping confirmation from Amazon yet?
Local record shop had one copy each of Eggnog/Lysol Ozma/Bullhead yesterday. Packaging was slightly beat up but it sounds good so far. Listening to Ozma...
Guess I'll check my local record store today after work. Was going to order from Midheaven but it says sold out. These aren't limited are they? Didn't think they were, but then how does a pre-order sell out?

I have not read or heard any news indicating a specific number of records pressed. Anyone?
Since it's not limited edition art work it's not like it would be difficult to reprint another pressing if it were to sell out. The 'black border' tells me they didn't have original artwork to use so they printed smaller in order to display a high-res image. If it makes money, it'll probably print again.
Definitely go to your local record store and grab it before some other wiener beats you to it.
I'll probably only be able to afford one if they have it. I was under the impression I could take my time with these.

While it's nice to have a local record shop, I admit, I've been spoiled by the internet. My local record shop has great selection and run by some fine folk, but it's not uncommon for brand new releases to be dinged up and more expensive than ordering online. For used records it's no contest, the unlimited selection and great deals on ebay and discogs means I rarely go to the local shop anymore. Unless it's a special occasion.

Any particular reason why some Sims expansion packs are in there?
Ozma sounds great. better than the CD i think, still sounds weird... but JUST enough of the weird frequencies that were always in that mix are toned down.
Bullhead sounds good... nothing jumping out at me as an improvement or being weaker.

I went to the two places here that sell vinyl and nada. At the record store run by a guy I know I said it came out today and the guy working there said:"Oh, if it came out today we won't have it." :? ](*,)
These sound awesome!
The pics of the band are a bit too pixelated looking. Just getting to Lice'll right now. I likey!!
listened to all 4.
Ozma i still think sounds better than the CD
Lysol and Eggnog are great (for some reason i think Charmicarmicat sounds better on this remaster (everything else sounds really good but nothing noticeably different)
Bullhead, something sounds off... but not terrible
Overall, these are great pressings. I get worried because there are a lot of lackluster "vinyl reissues" out there. sounds like boner took the time to make quality pressings. these are great. Would love to see the Ipecac stuff get this kind of attention

I just did and got a nice email from Tom that there is more cool Boner stuff. It's actually funny, originally I ordered from Amazon on Dec.30th thinking that was far enough in advance. I got some free $60 gift card from Amazon for signing up for some chase amazon visa and used that to pay for it. Then today I chatted with someone who gave me some BS about Amazon not ordering enough and the eta was March 10th or something! Then they said if I bought it from another seller Amazon would pay the shipping. Bought them from Tom and Amazon sent me $8 to my credit card. I am one cheap bastard! lol I never asked for money but they offered.
say what?! I gotta check on that! :o

It was more of an observation than a complaint. In fact, those are probably my favorite pics of Lori.
I will bet the Images look that way partly because All Printing is digital these days...Im sure the original Album covers were not.
It looks pixelated on Ozma/Bullhead but Eggnog/Lice All looked good. Only listened to the first side of Bullhead so far but it sounds great. The bass on Ligature is ridiculous!
The Boner reissues are beautifully pressed and in that respect, superior to my first issues. This is a win-win situation for Melvins and fans alike. If you missed them the first time around, you will have an excellent listening experience here. It's a bit of a bummer that it took so long to give Melvins' Boner recordings the respect and honor that they deserve. In fact, Melvins figured out some time ago to take it upon themselves to put out very special and satisfying vinyl releases. You gotta pay handsomely for these collectables! A fan with limited funds deserves to own these vinyl beauties!! The first presses are way out of some folks' price-range these days. Some of us were very lucky to have picked them up and preserved them along the way. The later half of the "win-win" is that now we can really preserve our earliest versions. I know that I will now go to these reissues when I need a fix!! The packaging is wonderful too...

Sorry, mine are still in shrink (opened only on the opening). If I have time, I will slide the jackets out of the shrink and post pics. Hopefully, someone here is less anal than I am and opened their gatefold? If so, please post pics!!
couldnt Agree more...now if only they would do something about the Stag and Honky Pressings. :-k
I still Laugh about how I bought Bullhead Sealed for about 14.99 back in time.
Same with Lysol and honky...took me awhile to find them, but I eventually got em, cheap way back in the day.
Trey Spruance has the right idea with his Recordings on Vinyl, Double Twelve inches at 45 RPM.
another thing to mention is that High end on Record pressings have been Slightly boosted from what Ive been told.
I wont Go in about the pressings until I have dropped the plunger on my Re-issue as it spins upon my TT platter.
I said it before and say it to you again;
Screw Flipping Records all night! Tape em!
Reels, and Cassettes man!
Thank you for stating that so beautifully, Yanayaya. I took a few fotos of Ozma/Bullhead. It's too big for my scanner, so I took some high res shots. Still haven't opened the Eggnog/Lysol or Lice All

nothing like Hearing the needle Drop and the Dead air, those final Seconds on the safe Sex side before the guitar on Zodiac kick in.
I want to know something about these, do you guys hear any noise on the Dead Air That sounds something like someone blowing into a Microphone...
The 180g Re-issues of Classic Records have some weird un-accountable aural Anomaly to them the original pressings never had.
Wondering if its to do with Anything happening between the analog digital Conversion.
Theres been no resolved debate about the weird noise on the 180g Re-issue Lps out there.
While these recordings were most likely Half-Track Masters and probly Half Inch 16-Track Tapes, I wonder how the Remaster happened. An all analog Mastering will cost you 12 Grand a day easy, if you can even find the one guy who still does that kind of work.
PS. I refuse to make a joke here about you owning boners. :P

Awesome dude...can't wait to give mine a proper listen.
Pretty great deal. For some reason I never realized they were being packaged as two albums in one.
I really respect the Melvins for making the albums obviously different from the original presses, they could have easily made identical looking re-issues that further confused the ebay/online purchasing we like to do around here.
I'm really happy with the way these sound. Even the mp3s blow away my CDs.

That I strongly disagree with. As suggested by my previous post the CDs I have sound awful. Thin, tinny, distant and quiet. The vinyl and the mp3s sound way better. Ozma is like a whole new album. I'm a vinyl buyer and I already bought the LPs but CD buyers should want a sound boost on these albums.
I wouldnt Say Ozma sounds Awful on Cd, but compared to the Tape you notice the Tightly shut Gate on the compression. Also at a very low Volume level compared to anything post-loudness war. It comes off Very thin and flat sounding as you mention. Im going to say this was Deliberate at the time, and it was done like that for a specific reason.
I think I mentioned Mastering is all different for Tape, CD and LP.
Digital was all still very new in 1989, so Im sure a lot of analog Guys were still working out the brickbats going from Tape to Digital Mastering.
compared to the Cassette I notice the Kick drum has a lot more Depth and the whole mix sounds a bit more dimensional..the OZMA cassette to my ear sounds more *oldschool* than the CD does...my ear says; THIS is how it should sound more than the CD does so I dont know why, but it sounds more closely Related to the GPT sound on Tape.
But alas, the volume on the Cassette is horrible (there it is again, real Figure of Loose speach, I would rather say the volume was Just LOW, the difference being it has a Nicer rounder Volume Swell at certain incraments where the CD is more fixed sounding at any volume. The Tape speed also will play Tricks with the Mix and your Ears and you will pick out more little things you didnt quite hear the same on the other master because of Wow and Flutter % etc.) as it was a low-quality duplication run on Cheap Ferric Tape with Really Low Grade shells and the high end suffers a lot of Drop, but Overall It comes through with something the CD doesnt have in terms of Gut and Power..Analog to analog, the Bias encoded on the Original Tape is still there on the Cassette while the CD doesnt have the Tape Bias signal on it, digital Cant *hear* the Range while the tape will capture it, and also the sweet way the upper mid Harmonics of the mix all distort and blend together on tape...the digital rendering again, cant boast that in the mix....Then Again, Its another can of worms to now Assume this all was mastered Digitally then Pressed. Nothing wrong with that. Lets Presume The original recordings and Masters Might not have been all they *could* be at that point, and therefore You could easily Fix whatever you didnt like originally.
doesnt sound like the band did to these Re-issues what George L. Did to the Original Star wars movies.
I cant wait to hear these!
Just got em' today and saving that special listen for Sunday night. Right off the bat they look freakin' amazing!
Got these slabs o' wax today in the mail too(Bull Moose). Gonna throw 'em on in a bit.
I listened to the mp3s and the rips on my computer from the CDs (192 AAC format) and couldn't really tell too much of a difference. Now I only listened to a couple of songs for comparison (Oven, Anaconda, Wispy) with my headphones (some Bose Around Ear headphones, forget the exact model number), and I will say that the mp3s do sound better, but you don't really have to replace your CDs if you don't want to. From what I've heard though (only Bullhead so far) the reissued vinyl sounds the best.
So where is the best place to order these? With okay postage to Australia?

Rocking Horse Records in Brisbane have them. They used to have a website but I can't seem to find them now? They also sell on eBay....here's a listing...
http://m.ebay.com/itm/391006460814?nav=SEARCH
Just call them up and pay over the phone and grab'em both.
I haven't listened to the Vinyl yet, but the MP3 download quality is no improvement from the cd downloads I did years ago.
I already had these albums on vinyl. The real reason for my purchase was in hopes that Bullhead, Ozma and Lysol got a bump up on my ipod. Eggnog always sounded good, so that wasn't a issue.
I love all of these albums no matter.
To add a little insult to injury, USPS sliced through my priority mail and damaged the Ozma / Bullhead. Fed Ex those thing if you can.
Luckily I'm not a "collector", as long as the vinyl isn't hurt I can deal with it.
Are the mp3s 320?
MP3s can die! :x (sorry, I had a minidisc player at one point, and it was pure suckness)
Got mine yesterday from Bull Moose Records in Maine, perfect shape, they know how to ship LPs. Yeah, the packaging is awesome. I like that they used plastic sleeves, I hate the cheap paper sleeves where you get particles of the paper that stick to the vinyl sometimes. Spinning Ozma right now, sounds a bit better than the CD IMO.
if you want... we can ca crawl up rhe aksla.
where is juliano.

It's tea time with Nick Cave, but he'll be back soon.
I don't know how limited these are but Juno who are the UK's biggest independent online vinyl retailer have sold out. Norman Records & Piccadilly Records still have'em though.
Just received both gatefolds. The pixelated images in the Ozma/Bullhead release are embarrassing. Don't know how they thought it was okay to let this go through production.
Anyway, whatever. About to listen.
Yeah I don't know why those are so pixelated since Eggnog/Lice-All isn't and the pictures I've seen on Midheaven's site aren't. The music sounds great though.
Listening to Lysol now. I own the original and have played it hundreds of times. It sounds great. I don't remember the drums hitting quote this hard. I am happy.

Is Tom okay with that? Maybe there's a chance for repress with fixed artwork when they restock? Can someone inquire?
I've had these for a week now and only listened to Ozma/Bullhead once. I guess I need to throw on Eggnog/Lysol tonight.
On the artwork: I'd rather have grade A+ vinyl with minor artwork issues, rather than the other way around(Wunderkammer)
I was wondering why these were taking so long and inquired and got this e-mail:
QuoteI am sorry we are still out of stock of the Melvins -Eggnog/Lice-All (Double) LP and Melvins -Ozma/Bullhead LP. I spoke with my buyer and it looks like these are being repressed, however they won't be reaching us for a few months. It no problem to continue processing your order, however we know this would be quite a while to wait. Please let me know if there are any changes you would like me to make to your order. Otherwise once they do come in we will have them shipped out to you. Sorry for any inconvenience.
I cancelled my order.

I'm just going to wait a bit. I hate all this scrambling around for shit.

I never did see/hear what the numbers were on these, but I'm really surprised they sold out and there is enough demand for a repress. These have been talked about online at so many places that usually don't pay much attention to the melvins, and carried by shops that don't usually have melvins releases. They have brought a lot of the people who were interested in this era of melvins, but had drifted away, out of the woodwork and created a lot of buzz by making the vinyl accessible to "newer" fans that can't find/ afford the originals. Nice to see.
happy i picked up lysol/eggnog when i did... speaking of which, it's time to lay em on the platter...

The bulk of Melvins fans on Facebook, it would seem.
I am still waiting on my copies from the local record shop.... Driving me crazy! I want to support them and buy 2 copies of each but I also wanted them Jan 20th. Sorry end rant.
Received both sets from Amazon today, arrived in great condition in excessive packaging, like the way it's put together and they sound great!

This is a tough call, but I have to say bullhead was a gooOOOood pressing.
Bought both of these yesterday at a local record shop that FINALLY ordered them.
Worth the wait. 8)
Bummed that my Ozma came new with zipper like distortion in some songs. Anyone else have defects in their vinyl? Midheaven won't even get back to me in an email. :? Bullhead sounds amazing though

My copy sounds perfect.
It sounds better than my original copy.
I just redeemed my digital download for Eggnog/Lice-All and it only gave me Eggnog? Anyone else have this problem?
