Me:I heard those Melvins guys fuck pigs...

When can we expect the new record?

Toshi:Soon.

(this is where I start to embarass myself):Ah man thats all we get? Oh well. How do suicide in progress and Billy Fish sound in the studio? Or should I just shut my mouth and be a patient boy?

Toshi:You know too much, boy!

End Melvins relevance here. So thats all we get :?

Plus, Big Biz posted a blog http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=13717050&blogID=357370279
QuoteBig Biz Business 2008, part 1, scene 1, act 4, paragraph 2.
Dreams and the Supernatural

I know it's late, but it's high time we get everyone on the same page for the upcoming year in Big Business.

Right now I am sitting in a recording studio in Hollywood as Jared is doubling his bass parts on a new Melvins record. Check out the photos in our photos. It has a name, and we'll be spilling the beans on that one shortly. Everything seems to be going as planned, so expect some freaky deep cuts on this one. Toshi Kasai is at the control thing, doing stuff you and I probably will never understand. Dale is starting a fire outside, signaling the first bbq of the year is about to be underway. Once this is wrapped up, The Biz will be finishing up our latest batch of songs and hopefully recording this spring. Our touring schedule for the year is still being figured out, but we know this: the Melvins and Big Business are touring Europe in the fall. We'll post more info as it comes in. We have high hopes that some special plans we've been planning for years will come to fruition in 2008. Come fly with us.

We love you so much right now.

I'm liking the "freaky deep cuts" statement.

also the fact that theres been multiple recording sessions.  it bodes well.

(A)SA was a 2 week, one time recording session.   great album but nothing overly "freaky" or "deep" on it.      multiple recording sessions lends me to believe the next album will be more...   epic?

but europe in the fall??    this might break my streak of MELVINS shows in the late september/early october  three years and running.    this I don't like.
glad for you europeans.   but I'm a selfish fuck,  give me another US tour.  (and another, and another, and another.....)

I'm not sure what their touring routine was before I got into them, even though I could look it up at the Wiki, but I saw them in 2003 and the was already another European tour scheduled one year after that, which was canceled unfortunate due to Kevin's 'illness'. Last year's tour was in April, so there's 1,5 year in between. And don't consider UK tours or Cameron Jamie shows as a tour, that's just our bonus ;)

They were listed to play in Newcastle in about 2001. I remember seeing it in the paper and thinking, you know, "Kurt Cobain blablabla". I was going to go but my friend flaked on me. As he did with last week's Earth gig but I still went to that one.

Melvins are the only band i'm actually excited about seeing studio photos of. Woo. And I am excited about the European tour and all that stuff too.

Ah come on, you lucky US people get enough tours.  Maybe I should move..  But right now I'm just praying that they'll make it to germany, to my town and if it happens I'll be fucking glad.  You know, if they announce the dates and I see hamburg  I will go rabid, and after a week or so I'm gonna calm down and wait patiently.  Damn, you should see me all excited, then you'd be happy for the european folks!  :P

I tried to translate the japanese with a language tool thing to get an idea of what he wrote there.
Interesting result, I must say.

"You record the base of the sound where it ended also the based recording, used effect and just a little changes. After inserting those in several tunes, it enters into the vocal recording. Harmony is thick again the tune whose several tunes. When recording the song of Buzz of a certain tune, harmony of the treble listening exceeded in your own head. Because you say that Jared does harmony, you had expected that the high harmony where by his listening exceeded in the head probably will be done. But Jared started doing the harmony which is lower than Buzz in the exact opposite.

Also the chef of Melvins should call 2nd barbecue, those due to the cooking Jared. In addition timing to be good can do the meal, also work progresses.

If I'm reading this correctly it seems they've cooked and eaten Jared but the timing worked out well as he'd just finished recording. 2008 - New Melvins album and bass player auditions.

Umm, I translated it again and it says something like this:

"To do the harmony recording of Dale and the guitar recording of Buzz, after that after a long time the noise recording.
As for the time where Kevin of front [beshisuto] is the noise recording was many from that influence."   :-k

see him using it on the YOA clip.

One of my favorite Melvins tracks.

Also, is there any confirmation than Suicide In Progress and Billy Fish are going to be on the album?  I can only hope so (for the desire of a properly recorded and mastered version of each song), but with what I see of the recording process, they seem to fit in more with (A)SA and not whatever they're cooking up now.

I hope there will be lots of three part harmonies like on (A)SA.  It's great.

You actually get a vague idea of what they're doing in the studio when you translate the japanese with a translator.
It's interesting.

It'll probably be like Let it All Be or We Reach where the live version  is more rocking with less crazy noises. Or they'll release those two on a limited 6'' available only in Bumfuck, Idaho.

I used google as well, but also this one:  http://dictionary.reference.com/translate/

I don't think it makes any more sense, the word order is still completely wrong, but you get an idea. I think I understood some bits. It's interesting, for example when it says something like "enormous experimental tune", it makes me curious.  Still I don't know if it's the correct translation.

Another Toshi update...

Last night at the Big Business show in LA at Spaceland, Jared stated that this was the first BB show with Toshi as an official member of the band, full time, 100%, the real deal.

And then the hazing starts...

So they're no longer a two piece then, wow.  But don't get me wrong, Toshi as a third member is awesome.

I'd imagine they still consider bass and drums the lead instruments.
and anticipate that guitar will be used relatively sparingly on the new album.

I hope so. Not that I don't want Toshi to play, but to me Big Biz is droning bass and heavy drums + small but significant guitar parts.  Ah, we'll see, it's gonna be good anyway. Toshi knows what he's doing.

We could have said the same thing about Coady and Jared joining the Melvins. I think Toshi will knows how to add an appropriate amount of guitar.

Exactly. It's adds more depth to Big Business. There's nothing worse than a band that puts out the same album over and over and over again.

Exactly, he won't turn the guitar into the main instrument just like that unless Jared and Coady want it for the new album...
He knows their sound and has played with them often enough I guess. That's what I was trying to say with
"Toshi knows what he's doing". 8)

Well and I didn't mean that I don't want them to add a permanant guitar player, I just always thought of them as a two piece. And I don't think it will change their typical sound a lot, after all they did have guitar players on their albums and live, I guess the only difference is that Toshi is now officially a permanent member. Which is cool, Toshiman is a good guy!

after hearing that new song on the youtube clip I'd say its about the same as it ever was.

the bass leads.  and goddam is it LOUD.

notice there's really no riffing with the guitar, just added effects/noises.  just like Business of old.   the riffing is all bass.  if you can call it riffing.

Yeah, H.A.T.'s the first album were he's credited as mixing/recording for the Melvins, so if he's 18 now, he would've been 12 when he did that.
