This is the Nightmare Before Christmas thing that they played two years ago with Flipper, Nurse With Wound and all that. So who would they pick? The Melvins I mean not Mike Patton.
If this actually happens you should all fly across the world to the Melvins fest and we can all drink warm, expensive English beer together.
Here is some unfounded rumour discussion
http://www.planbmag.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12699
If it's true, me and Lun will be there for sure.
Who would The Melvins pick? The Locust, Black Heart Procession, Kill Me Tomorrow :D Big Business naturally, maybe Blue Cheer if they would be down with that, Seawhores, Sir DSS, are the Latin Playboys still active? probably not. How 'bout The Lucky Stars? No idea about them other. Meshuggah? Lustmord (OMG! Did I just say that? I think for a possible Melvins/Lustmord collaboration I'm allowed to!), Zu.... it'd be one big surprise!!!
EDIT: Venomous Concept, Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, Qui, Black Dice maybe? OK... so far all the obvious ones.
At least there wouldn't be any hipster bullshit bands playing.
I'm sure ATP can make the Latin Playboys come back if they made Slint come back. They should wave some cash at the Cows too. I think that particular reunion at that particular event isn't very likely to happen at all though. Maybe Shrinebuilder would play.
People who are too expensive: ZZ Top, Kiss :)
Mudhoney,Foetus,Altamont,Porn+Merzbow,Butthole Surfers,Hank III,Flipper,Godzik Pink,Jesus Lizard
I'd love to see the Heroine Sheiks on that bill.

Ooh, seconded. Lustmord would be amazing as well. All the obvious ones I can think of right now
have been named... OM would be cool too.
Alice Cooper, Cream, Stooges, Pink Floyd ... he he
The Sonics would be more realistic.
Paying homage to some old school hardcore would be cool too, like MDC.
If The Melvins are playing I will have to ask my friends in London about letting me stay with them so they can go to ATP with me. Plus I should have money and vacation time by then to take.
Throbbing Gristle got back together, and I know that Buzz likes Throbbing Gristle...
Buzz loves to insult Patton in subtle ways every time he's asked about him, which is hilarious since he plays with him all the time.
It's like he wants to make sure you understand that him and Patton have totally different takes on music, and that he almost doesn't totally respect Patton...
lol

Those are all things that can be taken care of later, after you've decided to go! :D
Btw, not that it's relevant yet, but ATP is actually quite luxurous, being held at a bungalow park, the visitors stay in chalets, you get a bed, shower, kitchen, coffee machine, oven, living room, tv...
Stuff like 'Celebrity Poker in Steve Albini's Chalet' is also available. That isn't something rude by the way, people did go and play poker against Steve Albini in his chalet. I looked in the window. Full of nerds.
The Melvins will program the TV Channel too if past ATPs are anything to go by. Get ready for some epic war films
More epic rumourage from drownedinsound.com
"I'm not making this up. Barry told me at ATP this weekend. It's Patton vs Melvins. First announced acts are Slayer, Squarepusher and Neil Hamburger. Deal with it."
Goddamn, there I come.
I think I would just be uncomfortable if I went. Maybe a smaller intimate show in a different place would be better.
I would take back my plane tix to SF to be at this.
Europe really does know how to put on a fucking show.

I'm there! I think people will come with me to this thank fuck.
Mind you I just had a flashback to the Tomahawk/Melvins gig where shirtless dudes chanted 'Where's Mike Patton' over the Melvins set. Oh god!!
those cretins!!
Hmm, well isn't this just great! Do I spend all my savings catching the Melvins while they tour the States, or do I blow it on a trip to the UK???
wifey says if i can cover the cost of going, it's no prob. anybody got a couple grand laying around? mitrowski?
Any wealthy Americans over here who are seriously considering the trip?
Come on! Plenty of American stoners at Roadburn, why not ATP then?
Yeah, come on! I know the best fish and chip shop in the area.

On a related note. This time I'm definitely bringing some self brought food to the park, because last time my stomach was a total wreck. Part of that also had to do with the wine, or did I start drinking because that's all my stomach would take? Either way, to have some vegetables and fruit is no redundant luxury. I thought that was so strange, having a supermarket there, but no fruit available! And everything else seemed to be covered in mayonaise!
Vincent Vega should have picked the British to make fun of with their greasy food, not the Dutch! Our mayonaise is delicious!

So who else thinks its possible the Melvins might bring Dillard over to England?

Cool, thanks! Yeah I was aware he probably has his own life to hold down, and that therefore touring would be difficult. However, like the Jello show, this isn't a tour, and so I thought it would make a nice and realitic addition to the festival.
i would love to go to this. i am seriously thinking about it. i'll probably look into it, but my american dollar isn't worth much in europe, so it probably won't happen.
I got to looking for plane tickets for shits and giggles.....best price I could find is $1018 round trip. Safe to say I can't make it.
I think a trip to NY for a Melvins show might be a possibility though. Much cheaper :)

I'm going with Lunica of course, and maybe a friend of mine, Pit on the board, and then I have to find one more other person but that shouldn't be a problem. The problem is not necessarilly that they don't want, it's more of a money issue, the Americans know what I mean!
So, is anyone looking for one spot? Someone I've - let's say - pm'ed with at least? And who isn't a complete asshole? You know who you are! Ok, maybe it's a bit too early for this now, we'll see. This thread ain't over yet ;)

So that's about 840 euro for a 4 person chalet with self-catering? Cheap is different!
The meal deals sounds alright. I think I'm considering taking a cab this year from Bristol airport instead of having to take the train to Taunton and then finding the bus to Minehead.

Alright, thanks. Friends of mine once managed to take a tax bus to the Minehead from Bristol airport for 110 pounds I believe, for six persons. That sounded very convenient. I can't remember the price of the train ticket exactly. But I do know it a bit more than an hour to get to Taunton, and I actually still remember where the buses left in Taunton to Minehead.
I'd say if there isn't more than 4 of you getting a taxi it will be pretty expensive.
Booking trains work out a lot cheaper the earlier you do it. So if you get some train tickets now you might find a bargain. but as you already know, britsih public transport ain't the cheapest!
I think I'm gonna go with your advice and make use of the public transport. I remember EasyJet flights go there quite early so there will be enough time to struggle through the British public transport services and arrive in time.

It's a good thing you don't have a girlfriend down there.
wrt the transport, just try and arrive early! Minehead/the beach is nice to walk around for a couple of hours and there are many nice places to eat. Plus it gives you plenty of time to buy some real food to stop you from dying over the course of the weekend. The last two times i've been i've arrived at about midday and got straight off the train onto a bus with no queuing. Then listened to Tres Hombres for the duration of the bus journey :D

Wow! What does that mean? You have to wait at the airport for 14 hours? Do you have to stay behind the security gates? Man, that sucks. Sure there are some overpriced bars there but you can't even have a smoke in there anymore. Do you even smoke? Ok, maybe it doesn't matter.
At least they have beer :D

Well your visa into England should cover you going into the dam for a smoke because it is all part of the European union and at the airport you should be able to just ask for a 24 hour visa which would let you wonder round for a bit, worked for me in Honk Kong.
Maybe wait to see or email ipecac about if The Melvin's are doing a show in London because you could do what Maartin done a few years ago and go from Minehead to watch them again and the get a flight back direct from London that might make it a bit cheaper.
For what it's worth, ZU is on the ATP show. =D> =D> =D>
For me, I've ALWAYS thought the perfect dream line up would simply be Melvins with ZU...
Actually, so far...
Patton, Melvins, Fantomas (performing The Directors Cut), Dalek, ZU, Isis, Neil Hamburger, Big Business, The Locust...
Damn.
arent melvins and ZU collaborating? wonder if you FUCKERS ( :)) will see some of that come to fruition.

Well, I don't hope Zorn will get a say in this! It's the Melvins curating, it's already a small shame it had to be Melvins AND Mike Patton!
What's wrong with the Melvins only? If you want to call it an Ipecac showcast, call it 'Ipecac vs. ATP'. Right now I believe Isis are curated by the Melvins, but what does that mean? Buzz could pick a band and he chose Isis? Oh god, no. Ipecac was initially started to release the outlets by Patton's projects, the Melvins, and Isis, so those three involvements are only natural.

Well they already have recorded something, we'll hear it as soon as the new Zu album will come out, 'cause it'll be on that record.
Isis sucks
Indeed-ly doo-do-do-doo.
I find them boring, and I saw them quite recently at Roadburn and overall it sounded weak. Aren't these guys audiophiles or something? They seem like that kind of band to me. The effect their music had on me was way below zero, and I'm really not that diffcult to turn out, ask my boyfriend.
If Isis were my girlfriend, I'd be the breaker-upper. It would be the classic "It's not me, it's YOU!" situation, or is it the other way around? No, no, it's them.
Either way, it's bands like these that makes creating my festival schedule a bit easier.
Well.....my plane tickets are bought, and Maar has my room and fest ticket money. I guess it wasn't a drunken threat after all.
So....My flight leaves Bristol at 10:25 am. Is there anybody that's driving that way, early in the morning from Minehead?
I could get a taxi I guess, but they're spendy from the sound of it.
i still like isis but can see why people don't. i'll swear by the early (heavy) material over most of the recent (tool-y) work but it still has some merit...

Buzz loves to insult Patton in subtle ways every time he's asked about him, which is hilarious since he plays with him all the time.
It's like he wants to make sure you understand that him and Patton have totally different takes on music, and that he almost doesn't totally respect Patton...
lol
Maybe the people closest to him are the ones who take the piss the most.
I remember in one interview, in regards to 10k Days, saying something like bands usually have over the top album artwork to disguise the simple fact that their music is boring. I thought his point was hilarious and dead on.

Not a bad addition. What other bands are you hoping for, Andy? I was thinking about Guapo the other day, although I'll be seeing them already at ZXZW. I'm still expecting something special, and by that I don't mean another Big Band collab. I mean Dillard, Eggnog/Lysol or a live collaboration with Lustmord. Yes, I've set my expectations quite high.
And let me ask you something else, why is it easier to decide to go to the more expensive ATP, than to go to the much cheaper but also kickass Roadburn festival?

I'm pretty sure they are! To be entirely honest Maarten it's all about the travelling/people tradeoff. I am quite happy to head to Bristol with some of my friends but i've been unable to convince anyone to travel all the way to Roadburn with me (even though Down were playing this year). I'm sure it will happen eventually. And yes, I'm aware that Idlehanz is travelling halfway around the world :)
ATP themselves seem to squeeze a couple of bands on. Fuck Buttons seem to play every ATP event these days, if they squeeze onto the bill maybe ATP are picking a couple of bands. Who knows.
I'm hoping some bands that aren't on Ipecac will be picked. Some curveballs! Something like Halo Of Flies or a reformed Cherubs (they like Ed Hall right?) would be amazing. As would Melvins/Lustmord. Rather that than Eggnog/Lysol, although that would be incredible too.

Hm, I'm just being skeptical. It just seems more like an Ipecac showcast so far. And I just think the Melvins could have pulled this one off without Patton - let them have their own curatorship, you know? It's a bit like The Netherlands AND Belgium organizing a European Champsionship Football - what's the point?

Ha, understood. Yeah I have found myself in the same boat so many times. I remember I really wanted to attend Supersonic two years ago. And it's already hard enough to find people who agree on the amazingness of the line up, let alone to find those who can afford an expensive (British!) festival that also requires a plane ticket. Roadburn should be eaiser though. It's inside, which is convenient, it's not more than 70 euros for two days, pre-party and afterparty excluded, and a beer costs about 2 euro, and smoking inside was allowed, until this year unfortunately.

That's be a funny one. Very unlikely too, which means not impossible at all in Melvins land.
So, if anyone is thinking of going but hasn't booked anything yet, the chalet I booked has one spot left, and I don't think I'm going to be able to find someone to go with me in the physical world - they all agree: too damn expensive. It's a 4 person chalet and so far it will features Idlehanz, Lunica and myself. Shoot me a pm if you're interested. I'd prefer someone I know at least a little bit, someone I once quoted or pm'ed with - something to that extent. You also have to trust me with money, but I, as well as some others here, can garantuee you I am officially themelvins.net certfified trustworthy.
It should be someone who doesn't throw up inside.
if i could just win that damn lottery!
In the unlikely case you will, can I charge you twice the price then?
When is the final date for official word? I would be totally be up to going, but I won't be able to book anything for a couple of months, when I get my next bonus check.
Pooh, I don't know. Today a good friend of mine actually told me he would consider it. And usually he never has the money, so that came a bit by surprise. But if he decides not to go, then I'll still have that extra spot left of course. I don't mind if you would pay me a bit later after you will receive your bonus check, 'cause I've spent my money already anyway. But keep in mind the money it will cost you! It won't be cheap, and you'll be more on your way than sitting down! But yeah, it'll be fun of course and if you can afford it, then why not? :D

hey,
you can get chalets for groups of 2, 3, 4, 5 , 6 or 7.
the 2 and 3 berth ones are room only, so you get bed, tv and bathroom.
there are about 5 or 6 places on site to get meals, plus supermarkets etc.
if you want self catered (4 person and above), you get a lounge and a kitchen too.

Do the supermarkets there sell any nice beer?
Depends on your definition of nice!
It's worth walking the 5-10 mins to the town centre for real supermarkets that are cheaper and have a better selection.
they always have a large selection of west country scrumpies and ciders in comedy flagons. which is good enough for me.
Will this destination be easy to get to from Edinburgh? We'd have to catch a train down......where would we get off??????
It would take you a while, you'd probably have to stop off in london...driving would be quicker (though

but i know people have come to it from there before.
The nearest train station is Taunton, you can get a bus/taxi from there to butlins.

Oh, and you`ll probably have to go by cab from taunton to minehead. The bus connection is horrible! No extra festival buses at all, so theres a huge fucking line with like 3-400 people (not good at estimating) waiting for the buses, that only leave like once an hour or something. Also on the way back, make sure to order tickets first, otherwise you're fucked. They don't fill up the buses unless you have already ordered a ticket, and you have to wait at least an hour or something to get a cab. At least thats my experience from the last ATP melvins played at.
Its a kickass festival though, really nice chalets, great festival area, however the food sucks, so this time I`ll definitely be going to the supermarket in town - the one inside the festival area didn't even have fruit! only greasy stuff soaked in mayo. I dunno about the beer in there, but i remember they had something creepy called "crippled cock" in a jar... i wonder what it was! :D
And I wonder what the food service is - I don`t wanna pay for it just to realize its deep fried pizza or fries soaked in oil..
I hope they're gonna have movies or TV channels this time as well :D

Farmers Market sounds pretty interesting, I will have to check them out. I haven't cared much about Mastodon since they've put out Blood Mountain, but it's cool for them they are picked by the Melvins to play at ATP, knowing they're all big Melvins fans.
Yesterday I was reading http://www.arthurmag.com/pdfs/Arthur30Part2of2.pdf (http://www.themelvins.net/forum/index.php?topic=10089.0) and this is what Buzz had to say about Pussy Galore when they were reviewing the Free Kitten album.
QuoteC: Buzz, you ever see Julie in Pussy Galore?
Buzz: We played with Pussy Galore. I loved them, thought they were great. The lineup I liked best was without her. Three guitar players. But my favorite record of theirs was probably the Sugarshit Sharp EP. We even did a cover off it, a b-side on a seven-inch a long time ago.
I hear Slayer are pretty much a done deal if that floats anyone's boat, seetickets sent out an email that lists them. They finish a european tour at the end of November so makes sense I guess.
still just a rumour for now I suppose, wait til ATP announce it.

Sweet! I hope they add the Stooges. I don't think I could ever see em enough times.
Holy chit.
Butthole Surfers. I didn't think I'd ever.
Butthole surfers twice in a year - sweet. A year ago, I thought I would never see them.
Butthole Surfers once in a lifetime. I thought I would never see them!
So here's a possilby stupid question. Are there going to be different stages set up with different bands playing at the same time, or one stage and just one band after another? I hope and pray for the latter, because I do not want to have to choose.
There will be some clashing :( I just hope most of the stuff I want to see isn't on the big tent stage cos the sound ain't as good on that one.
3 Stages. Main Stage (Pavillion) and two other club like venues. All indoors in the same building within a 30sec dash from each other. bands play from 2pm til 2am(ish). Kick-off is around 6pm on the friday so get in and get settled as they always seem to put someone good in that spot.
Sometimes the bigger bands choose to play the 2nd stage as the sound is better (more bass) which can make for a mighty line to get in. The Pavillion can sound like a tin can so get up close.
Basic point is yeah bands will clash but get your running shoes on and you'll at least SEE everybody you want to, although there will be about 40 bands/acts eventually announced.
it sometimes goes later now, until 3 or 3:30am, then djs until 4 or 5.
the pavillion sounds a lot better now than it did when the fests first started being done there, for the last two we've
had that stage fully curtained off so the sound is a lot better and you dont get the distractions of burger king
in the corner of your eye ;-)
we also tend to get some of the big names to play more than one set so that sometimes solves clash problems.
god i'm excited already and its still 4 months away and lineup still not halfway done :D
should have some more announcements for you in the next week too.
Great, thanks a lot for making the effort :)

Yeah, that's a tough one. I found a fourth person last month or something, otherwise you could have taken the empty spot in our chalet.
I actually know a few guys who are still searching for a few people to go with. Send me a pm if you're interested.
Aw heck, I'm really wanting to go to this but the only friend I know who would be interested in coming with me lives on the other side of the country (I'm from Australia). I'm trying to convince him to get a job and get the money to pay for his flight but I'm not sure if tickets will last until then...

You only have to sleep there, though. We'll be at the festival area all day, so you don't have to hang out with the psychopath in your room that much :)
or you could book the room and then sleep in a friends chalet/on their floor/ on their sofa!
then the stranger would get an even better deal!

Are you really a stomach?
I found out ATP is not a good place for stomachs.
No, definitely not. They have a strict "no stomachs allowed" policy this year, as an attack on the smoking ban. If you are a stomach, I would advice you not to go. You will be the laughing stock of the festival. I would advice you to go to a stomach only meeting instead - and don't bring any toes, they must under no circumstances be present there.

The Damned were picked by Melvins and the other three by Mike Patton. White Noise were one of the very first electronic music groups and its very nice to have them on the bill after we had the American equivalent Silver Apples at last years NBC! Stockhausen's work KONTAKTE will be performed using the composer's own original tapes; Patton fans may recognise William Winant who will be performing this piece as the percussionist from Mr Bungle. This now brings us to 22 brilliant acts; which is still only about half of the lineup!
The Damned are STILL one of the coolest live acts around. I 've seen them twice over the last 5yrs and each time they've been superb. Great addition. Now they just need to add Killing Joke and the Rezillos.
And Lightening bolt?
another addition today:
MadLove
which is the new project from Trevor Dunn (Mr Bungle, Fantomas, Trio Convulsant, Melvins and many more)
as for Lightning Bolt; there's always a chance, but if you dont wanna risk it we're putting them on in london for halloween (with shellac, les savy fav, om, wooden shjips, pissed jeans all for
I live in Amsterdam, so its a bit too far away! I'm only heading over there for the Nightmare before Christmas. They'll probably play somewhere closer though.
According to the DVD commentary on the Fantomas Melvins Big Band DVD, Patton wanted Tony Bennett and Melvins wanted Pete Townshend (acoustic) and Bob Dylan.
Bob Dylan and Tom Waits are at the top of every ATP wishlist every single time we do it.
surprisingly they're a bit above our budget!
The Damned?!? White Noise?!?! Mark Lanegan?!?! Woah, Hanz is in for a treat. Oh yah, same for Norecess and Lunica!

Halo of Flies would be really cool. I'm guessing you mean Latin Playboys but accidently typed Los Lobos. I can see Patton picking Merzbow, but I think he would pick an artist a bit less obvious/surprising? I'm still waiting for that confirmation of Lustmord.

Now that's just ridiculous.
They should pick Nardwuar to do interviews.
Maybe he'll be on the tv channel.
I saw Bob Dylan in 2006. He was shite.
I remember seeing Pete Townsend play solo on the tv years ago. He still attacks that guitar.
I might finally buy tickets today.
I would absolutely love to see Latin Playboys and Halo Of Flies. Haze said on the amrep site that a Purge Of Dissidents screening is more likely than Halo though.

Wow, excellent!
I may be slightly moistened by this line up.
Wow, Lydia attending a festival is certainly a surprise. Could lead to all sorts of interesting collaborations since Jim Thirlwell is there too.
Due to the smaller chalet options selling out so fast and the huge demand from people wanting to attend this christmas, we've decided to start a 'Share A Chalet' scheme for those who want to come but can't find enough people to buy a bigger chalet.
If you wouldn't mind sharing with people you don't know in order to be able to buy a chalet, please email us at nightmarechalets@gmail.com telling us how many people you have interested in buying, and we will get back to you with more information on how you can pay individually for single chalet spaces.

I went to the explosions one back in may and people were walking round with the event poster t shirts but they must've sold out very quickly coz I didn't see any on sale. So get into the crazy horse early (which is where they were selling the merch last time). I'm hoping for a giant robots t shirt, that'd be awesome :) lol. The whole event is goona be so good :D
the posters are sold in the shopping annex not the merch area. they have a sort of gallery/office thing. get one on yer way to pick up some scrumpy jack. I got one of the eits posters in a goodie bag (pub quiz), along with more jackie-o-motherfucker cds than we knew what to do with and a handful of deerhoof stickers which adorn the toilets in every service staion between taunton and glasgow. hope they have more than 2 members of barstaff in crazy horse this time, shit was hectic.
Are there still tickets for this? I don't want to suddenly decide to get one and become horribly disappointed :(

Aw man, even better. I was hoping Patton would pick some legendary crooner but I guess they're all too expensive. So it's why why why the Leila instead
Ok I have a ticket now. So when is everyone meeting up to sing 'Livin' After Midnight'?
Maybe at the bowling alley? Drunk bowling was lots of fun two years ago, and I didn't pay anything!
That would be cool. By the time I wanted to drunk bowl last December they had closed. That was 'af-ter mid-nite' strangely enough
The next one of these has a Sleep reunion? I may have just cum.
The Sleep thing is in May next year.
I just said that.

Nah, It's Halloween and I'm going out as tramp, it'll add to the 'aura'.
ATP will need to have a shit UK festival soon, I'll be getting sick of looking at the place.
There's only a month to go now. Maybe they'll announce the last few bands soon.
Woo
Is there room for more bands?
apparently so! I guess they could be fairly big ones too. Remember Sun City Girls and Comets On Fire weren't announced for the 2006 until really late on
James Blood Ulmer has been added to the bill today, picked by Mike Patton. we're now very close to selling out.
Here's an innerestin' thing. If you look on Trevor Dunn's myspace gig list thing you have
ALL TOMORROW
I am actually hoping it's either Lombardo or Crover, not the two of them. I know that sounds negative but think about it.
I don't think it does. The way I see it Fantomas is a start/stop on a dime really precise sort of thing and having one less drummer is only going to help in that department. Having said that I haven't seen the Big Band dvd yet. Maybe if they'd modify the songs a bit to include an extra drummer it would be ok. But I agree, one drummer would be best. I'm sure there will be some disgruntled people if Lombardo isn't playing but in my opinion there's always room for Crover. And a woman's work is Trevor Dunn
We'll have to wait and see. Maybe Dale can do the Slayer medley :D

The Slayer tour finishes end of Nov in Russia, I figure that should be enough time for Mr Lombardo to get his ass to Minehead. The double-drummer Big Band doing Director's Cut works just fine to my ears.

from Double Negative's myspace:
THIS IS FOR SERIOUS TAKERS ONLY
"We're playing at All Tomorrow's Parties at Bultins in Minehead the weekend of Dec 5, 6, 7th. We're flying into Bristol at 10:15am on the 5th and need to be back at the airport Monday morning at 8:30ish.
Ok...we have a couple free passes for the day we play, not the whole weekend.
From what we can tell the airport in Bristol is an hour away from ATP at Bultins in Minehead. If you are reliable, can drive and put 4 people(Double Negative), 4 backpacks and 3 guitars in you car or van and get us to the show we'll hook ya up with a ticket or two for the day we're playing and give you some band goodies and throw in for petrol. ...
And we need a ride back to the airport on monday the 8th by 8:30ish.
So, if you live near Bristol or there abouts and wanna see us and need a ticket or two. Just hook us up, we'll make it worth your time.
and we'll thank you on our next LP..DAYDREAM NATION out on No Way/Sorry State Records this winter".
Idlehanz, get in touch with -/-, maybe they found a ride to the airport already!
I wonder what will happen if no one gets in touch with them, I can help them out what train to take
The stage times are up on the site now. Melvins, BHS, Fantomas and a few others are playing twice. And there's no big shite outside stage so it's the same setup as the Thurston Moore one.
http://www.atpfestival.com/events/nbc2008/news.php?view=982
Saturday in centre stage is amazing! Mastodon then Melvins then Buttholes then Fantomas.
!!!!!
Oh, and Melvins 1983 are the first band on the centre stage on Friday so be early! 4:45!
Also Double Negative are on last on Sunday. Don't leave early!

Quick calculation: Bristol airport around 10, Taunton around 12/13, Minehead maybe 14/15..... (army time, sorry kids)... should be possible.
Andy, I'll see you in the moshpit during Snake Appeal, OK?

Deal. This is if I don't spot you at the airport cos my plane gets in at 9:55. In theory. I think with any luck that means Minehead at about 13:30.
Really? At Bristol? I think Idlehanz arrives around the same time, he'll be coming in from Amsterdam (and NJ and Portland before that :) ). We will go there on Thursday already because the early flights on Friday were too expensive. We're staying in a hotel nearby the airport so we will meet up with Idlehanz there. Around 13.30 at Minehead, I'd sign for that. We don't have tickets for the coach to Minehead but last time I used the local bus service and that went well, and I still remember from where they are leaving. Besides, you could only buy fixed time ticket... ugh.

Yeah, the last three times i've been the bus has been fine around that time, the longest I had to wait for a bus was about 20 mins. Every time I just put ZZ Top on and went to sleep for the hour long journey.
Which ZZ Top album? Tres Hombres, the one that starts off with Waitin' For The Bus? ;)
That's good, it's nice have someone confirming that. Anyway we expect to start travelling around 10 ish I believe so maybe we'll see you then already, drink some beers and raise some hell?
Yeah, hell will be raised. I gotta go to the supermarket first though for the cheap beer 8)
Tres Hombres yeah. I didn't even do it on purpose either.
Please tell me we'll be there on time.....Shit, ariving at 10:00 am and having 6 hours to get to Minehead is more than enough no?
Hanzy, I promise we'll be in there with a beer in our hand when they kick off that set!
Yeah, should be about three and a half hours. That's me being conservative, it didn't take that long last year. Had enough time for a massive fry up in the town beforehand.

ATP Schedule, easier to read!
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=p4fVhgUetT-4-GCjs3Dkueg
I split it in two so I can print it on one A4 size paper, using both sides.
There's an option to export this as XLS so you can tweak it yourself.
Oh yeah, the orange background means the bands I want to see and the lighter background means bands I maybe want to see, but I'll probably in the chalet then, having a whisky, or if it's early in the day, a glass of wine, or a beer.
This two stage deal is gonna suck big time, trust me. ATP will be issuing wristbands to people who can't get into the first of the 2 gigs by the bigger acts. They should issue wristbands on arrival for the 'big 4 acts' as they've described them. They did this for Portishead and it worked just fine.
Standing in a line that will guaranteed snake out past Crazy Horse and missing other bands just to get a pass to see them the next day!?!
You shouldn't have to feel lucky about getting things you've paid for.
Rant over.
That thing messed a few people up two years ago, but I would be lying if I said I had any problems at all with it myself. I walked straight into everything I wanted to see (including MC5 which was wristbanded) without a care. Given that the festival has been undersold on purpose this time around i'm going to guess it'll be fine.
Now i've been nice ATP people can you please get Tweak Bird to play an extra set that doesn't clash with Big Business?
edit: Or failing that get them to play someone's chalet? Does that sound possible? It's been done before.
4400 people going, Centre Stage is 2000 capacity, Reds holds 1200 with maybe half that in view of the stage. So as long as 1200 or so people are doing different things we should be fine.

Me too. I shouldn't have bothered listening to them, then I couldn't have been disappointed. Taraf de Haidouks sound absolutely immense as well. I'm going to try not to listen to anything else now.
quote: 'Standing in a line that will guaranteed snake out past Crazy Horse and missing other bands just to get a pass to see them the next day!?!'
you dont have to do that, if you definitely want to see any of the four on the sunday and aren't bothered about the saturday you can get a wristband
at any point from the production office.
also capacity of centre stage is 2800, reds is 1600.

Yes, we will fly to Bristol on Thursday, and will stay there for one night. I would have went on Friday if easyJet, the company we fly with, would have had some earlier flights. KLM is another option, but also 3x as expensive.
Idlehanz will arrive in Bristol Friday morning around 10, we will meet him then and start our short 'n sweet journey from there.
bristols a cool place, you staying in town?

By Banksy you mean this? It looks cool!

yeah
banksys from bristol, so theres quite a bit of his work there.
actually bristol as a whole is pretty good for graffiti, the whole place has a "youthful/community" vibe, hence the many good bars.
to bad you'll be stayin at the airport, you'll just have to do your best to salvage a good time at atp i guess :)
A couple of the band times have changed a tiny bit, now if you want to watch all of BB you can watch 15 mins of Tweak Bird. Which is a wee bit better!
I'm planning to actually take some photos this time cos I normally manage about five before I get sick of doing it/lose the camera.
You're all fuckers.. fuckers, i say!
Yep, this fucker is taking his pc :) And a camcorder with camera capabilities. I'll do what I can. I have no idea how much down time I'll have. This whole thing is gonna be a strange adventure.

Not unless you sneak in, they'll be checking wristbands on entry I presume. The security are big on wristbands, it's yer golden ticket.
They'll be colour coded so even simple Somerset folk on security can spot a chancer. They're simple folk but they don't steal.

But what if you're wearing a sunday wristband but say you want to see junior brown? Surely they'll have to let you in? Either way I'm not fussed as I'm happy seeing on the friday and saturday. And by sunday festival tiredness will have kicked in lol.
They swapped Bohren and Vocal Sampling around. So now you can watch James Blood Ulmer and Bohren. Vocal Sampling seem pretty cool though

Oh and see you all there, whoever you actually are. hehe. Have fun or go home! I'm off to catch some sleep before an 8hr drive. Woo!
Have a goodun! I'm going to sleep for five hours now before getting on thee bus then train then plane. I think at the front for Snake Appeal is the meeting point :)
We're here! Slow internet connection, going to the venue soon. Report back later.
Taking a break. So far Melvins 83 and BB have played. Melvins 83 did a shorter set than the Jello 5-0 shows. **EDIT**(I'm wrong about a shorter set. Mike said it was exactly the same as the GAMH shows.) I'll get a setlist later if I remember. BB came next and as soon as Jared hit a note he blew his amp. Five minutes later they get it fixed and get started. No Toshi btw. Normal set from BB. After a few songs, Dale joins on guitar. Finished with a crushing version of The Drift.
Sorry for being so vague, but I've been up for 32 hours + now. Having a dinner of grapes, a Guiness, and some cigs.
Watched some of The Dirtbombs, but had to come back to charge the camera batts. ZU starts in 90 minutes. Have to have a full battery for them and the Meat Puppets.
Other notes. Met Maffy. Dude looks exactly like Cheeseburger. I did a double take. It was weird.
So far, everyone's been awesome. Just like I figured.
Here's a shot of me, Stone Prophet, Maar, and Ing.

On the bus ride here, had a group of little douche's sit next to me. One started freaking out and I think passed out. His friends told him to chill and he started yelling about the prick bus driver making him sick. Which was true, the dude drove like a fucking maniac.
Ha, that's a great picture. I wondered when you all are going to sleep, 32 hours is insane.
Is that a butthole surfers shirt??
A few notes before bed.
Zu was fucking awesome. No other way to say it.
The Meat Puppets played the hits and some other gems. Finished with a 10 minute or so version of Lake of Fire.
Porn. Porn Porn Porn. One hour of Porn. Dale and Coady on drums, Moss in his usual spot, Trevor Dunn on bass. Oh, and Thurston Moore on another bass. And the guy from Mastadon taking over for Moss for a while. Can't remember his name, but the dude that got hurt and has a big tattoo on his head now.

No. The main stage room is huge. HUGE. There's 3 levels. Each is maybe 3 feet higher than the last. I set up right behind the soundboard on the 2nd level. I's a ways back, but that's what zoom is for. Watched a bit of the footage last night. Sound is good. For Zu, it's a bit loud and distorted, but only because they were too loud and distorted. I had to shoot them from the side at the 2nd stage. But the sound here is the BEST I've ever heard in any venue. You can hear everything perfect from any angle.
Oh, and yea, I think Lun does have a Butthole Surfers pic in that shot. Didn't ask though.
A few more shots from last night. Again, it's taking forever to upload photos to Photobucket because of the slow connection, so sorry for the limited pics. I timed it, and it's taking about 10 minutes to upload one picture. I don't have the patience to sit here for hours and upload shit right now.

Melvins just got done. Same set as usual minus Honeybucket, My Generation, and Boris. They ended with the SSB and that didn't sit well with some of the crowd. No boo's, but some headshaking. Dale started the set with a joke. "What did one motherfucker say to the other motherfucker"? "Hey motherfucker!" "Cuz that's what motherfuckers say to one another!".
Buzz was a bit more animated than normal. Thanked everyone and later saluted the crowd.
Can't say anymore than that really. They sounded great, and were tight as usual. I'll get pics up tonight or tomorrow.

Yea, talked to Dillard for a while Friday. He's as happy and confused over here as I am.
As far as filming tomorrow, I'm not sure I'll even get in. They gave out wristbands to get other people in first. The people that didn't get in to today's shows. I don't have one...
Watched the Butthole Surfers. First time I'd seen them. Really fun to watch live. Gibby was swigging from a whiskey bottle and drinking beers. They all seemed like they were having a great time.
Fantomas killed it. Biggest crowd so far. Played Directors Cut. Patton thanked the crowd, the bands who showed up, and ATP for somehow giving him and the Melvins creative control for the weekend. I filmed them, but not the Buttholes.
Nice! I bet the Directors Cut sounded great. Have you gotten a chance to get any sleep yet??

Oh........Dale did an EXCELLENT job in Fantomas. He missed nothing. You could see him watching Patton, like he was looking for cues, but didn't seem that he really needed to.
The crowd here really reacted well to them. I don't think they could get this kind of response in the states at any show. Being this is a festival, I guess it makes sense, but it was still really cool to see the crowd go for em like that.

Will see Teenage Jesus in a bit. Boss Hog is tomorrow......Not sure if I'll see them or not though.
A bit more......
Was going to skip Teenage Jesus, but on the way to call the gf from a payphone, I ran into Buzz and Dillard. Dillard gave me a 'formal' introduction to Buzz. He remembered me from San Fran. We had a bout 10 seconds to talk and they had to run. They said they were going to watch Teenage Jesus, so I decided to watch too, if not only to say I did see them, but get to talk to Mike and Buzz a bit more. I called the girl ( which cost me 10 fucking pounds for a 10 second call!), then headed over to the second stage. Watched about 4 TJ songs and saw Mike and Buzz. They were headed out. It didn't really suit any of us. Buzz left and Mike stayed and bs'd and bought me a Guiness. We shot the shit for about 30 minutes and he left for his room and I headed out for the office to see if I could get a wristband. They're closed. Shit. So I'm back in the room. Here's some shots of the room.

They start off inside and I had no idea what to expect. They're on the floor with a huge crowd around them. I figured there'd be no way to film. I started filming anyway and held the camera way above my head. Less than two minutes later, the band came to me. Fucking singer is everywhere. Drums flying around in the crowd. Singer standing on the bass drum while it's being held up by the crowd. Singer hanging off rafters. Singer on the handrail. Singers ballsac hanging out of his Richard Simmons shorts. Fucking Nuts! Literally!
Afte 20 minutes inside, the crowd tore apart the drums and took them outside. Guitar player kept playing. Crowd is like "Wtf?" I keep rolling film and go outside and the drums are setup outside and the singer is back on top of the bass drum on top of the crowd. Big dive and surf. Then he tells everyone to sit down. Everyone does. Hundreds of people, even people who were'nt in the show st down. Then a guard comes over and says no more. Crowd boo's, some dude tackles the security guard and they go down. Everyone laughs. The tackler laughs and the security guard laughs! Singer thanks everyone, show over.
YES! I'm glad you got to see them; I've heard nothing but great things about that band. I can't believe the security guard laughed after being tackled, that's bizarre.

oops, fucked up the post and got it fixed, plus pic.....
Anyway, everyone has to go see them. Whenever they play near you, go. You won't be dissapointed.
tell me about it. I missed them last month here in nashville.
Melvins set was a bit different tonight. Instead of finishing with History of Bad Men and the SSB after the ASA trilogy, they ent into My Generation, then Boris. Heaviest Boris I've seen yet. Finished with Jared in the crowd screaming nonsense for 5 minutes, then he and Buzz doing a quiet Okie from Muskogee duet while Dale danced on his drum stool. Unfortunatley, my camera batt died right after Boris was over.
Melvins soundchecked with Mastadon before Mastadon's set. The Bit. Three drummers, 2 guitarist, one bass.
Then they played it at the end of Mastadon's set. Heavy as hell and awesome.
Well, I'm resting until Double Negative. Walsby and the guys are letting me ride with them to the airport in their taxi. So at least that's one worry out of the way for getting home

Yea, just got back from them. They cut the set short. I believe due to sound problems. Lot's of feedback. You could see they were very annoyed with it.

There's no doubt tht this was the best concert experience I've ever had. And I'm sorry that others couldn't come. I wish we all could have met at a place like this. Really. I'm not trying to be an ass and be all like look at my pics n shit. I hope most are at least interested in what happened.

Yea, it's a cool pic. The camera I have has a button to take stills while filming, so all these shots are essentially from the videos, except the videos are much clearer.
Oh yea, after the show I heard the funniest thing. Some girl to her friend "I got that motherfuckers hairy ass in my mouth"
Sounds like a great time!
Buttholeman has a new sig.
thanks so much to everyone that came, it was a total fucking pleasure having you all and we'd love to see

Probably something like: "Hey, I'm Buzz, nice to meet you".
Got back two hours ago, had a really great weekend, will post a review soon.
This weekend was a fucking blast!
It was great to meet up with the fellow board members.
I got shit-loads of pictures so if anyone that was there want's a copy of them just give us a shout.
Porn were so brutal! I stood right next to the speakers, without earplugs..... I think my internal organs are still rattling!
Here are some brief highlights!

Just got back myself.
I had a great time, nice meeting Idlehanz and the other guys (even though I didn't know them at all, because I'm mostly a lurker)
Torche just slayed.
Apparently it wasn't a security guard; it was a guy who works for atp. But they were the most insane thing ever. The security went crazy lol they locked people in the 2nd stage and wouldn't let them out. So I'm guessing they got them to stop coz the security wouldn't be able to hold a big load of angry fans wanting to get outside and see. I managed to get a few audio recordings from the weekend, I'll be getting them up on dime over the week. Here's what I taped though:
Melvins 1983
Locust
Melvins on saturday
Fantomas on saturday
Teenage Jesus at 1am show
Butthole Surfers on sunday
I hadn't taped at atp before though and I wanted to just chill out with my friends most the time so I only recorded about a third of what I saw. Squarepusher was completely awesome.

We will soon, Idle taped it. The same as the Jello 5-0 show I guess, but a bit shorter I guess. They ended with a song that seemed to have evolved from the guitar riff from Sunshine Of Your Love.

Just got home myself. It was the same set from the Jello shows. It just seemed shorter to me for some reason.

There was a ton of merch. I'm not even going to try to list it all.
As far as Melvins merch, all they had were some of the Ipecac cd's and these new things called Dolbee's. I'm still unsure as to what they even were, but I ordered some anyway :) They didn't arrive in time and were going to have to be shipped to us.

That last one was taken while Buzz was singing a more quiet version of Okee, with Jared doing backup vocals, while he was sitting on that roadie. Then Dale came out to help Jared teasing him. The other one was either taken during Eye Flys or Boris, probably Boris. I think Jared got inspired by Monotonix earlier that day, I saw him watching the show with big interest.
He did the same kinds of things at the Troubadour show. For eye flys he just walked around the audience playing the bass line and during boris he was putting his head on people's shoulders, hugging them, climbing on people, piggyback riding roadies etc.

Well I've got the melvins 1983 & the locust up on dime now, I'll be putting up the proper melvins set and some more soon I hope, my connection is really bad though so expect to be leeching for a while.
The Dolbee thingies.. its the stuff that was in the artsy fartsy "shop" at the end of the merchandize stands.. they also sold the atp posters there. Its some kinda square (casette sized) vinyl toy. I thought the ones that were there didn't look too great - one with a mustache was kinda cool, but it was like 40 british pounds for it, so I didn't wanna buy the melvins one without seeing it first. If that made sense.
Here are the ATP ones, but no Melvins one..
