I was at a party not too long ago with people about 8-10 years younger than me who were hipsterish, and they were talking about music.  This was about a week or 2 before going to Buffalo to see the Melvins and we were talking about going to shows. I mentioned I was going to see them and every person except 1 said either never heard of them or "aren't they that band Nirvana had something to do with"  The only person out a large group of people who claimed they knew everything about music commented on A Senile Animal and how it was great they thought it was.
If I wear Melvins shirts people never say "oh cool Melvins!" Its always "who the hell is that? Never heard of them"" or "why did they put a dog shitting on the front of that shirt and why would you wear that?"

And for the majority of those people if you put on NWB they aren't going to say "hey this is catchy and rock and roll-y...accessible, I like it." They're going to say "this is weird".

I've worn this shirt many times in public with my young son with me, and have gotten looks. I honestly never thought too much about it, I mean it's just a Melvins shirt. But you know...time and a place kinda thing. I also got lectured by a lady because of my "I heart Satan" shirt(not with my son). I tried to explain that a real satanist wouldn't wear a shirt like that. She failed to get the joke. Now that I'm old(er) t's got a home in the back of the closet.

thats a good point - although there are one or two songs on NWB that could definitly be considered radio friendly.

Shit, I was the one who got all my friends into the Melvins.

Only other person who heard of them in my high school was kick ass art teacher.

I once saw a band shirt in public that read "Jesus is a cunt".

I only have two Melvins' shirts (Octopus, Houdini) and I rarely wear them, but when I do I always get a comment. However, if I have a normal shirt with generic writing on it no one ever says anything. It's strange, it's like the Melvin's shirts have some neon sign somewhere...I bet if I wear that Jesus is a cunt shirt I still wouldn't get a comment about it, but if I put "Melvins" somewhere on it someone will say something.

Hey man, we're both fine, thanks!

With who are you gonna cover those songs? Are you in a band/jamming with some guys? Have you considered Captain Pungent or Boris?
oh great man!
glad to hear things are going well.

yeah, boris would be greeeeeeat to do.  we can already play the music for it, we just need to figure out whose gonna sing, i have always wanted to be a singer (like everyone else, yes) yet usually people push me back because im the drummer. gah!  we also know anaconda, that is such a fun song to play.  i really want to learn zodiac too...hm...i need to get that work done.

what ever happened to you playing bass?
still do it?

Anaconda is one tough monkey on drums. The rest is incredibly easy ;)

Yeah, still suffering. Nah, it's going pretty well. Been practicing with a drummer for a while now, and the last month has shown a lot of progress. We got a few 'songs' we can jam to. Gonna jam with some guitarists now, to see what they can add. Also jammed with kurva in April, can you believe that? Him on drums and Rembrandt Pussyhorse on guitar - how's that for a themelvins.net jam? ;)
