The Melvins will only be doing a couple of 'secret' shows, but they aren't 'touring'- or playing the BDO as far as I know...

Any word on when/where these secret shows are?

Fantomas are also doing an extra show in Sydney on the saturday after the big festival:

I wouldn't book a flight until I had tickets if I was you...
They will no doubt sell out in no time, so even us Melbournians will be lucky to score tickets.

Yeah, I didn't mean it literally - I still don't know the exact date of the show but I started looking at flights around the end of Jan as the likely dates for a Melbourne show are 27,28 and 29 of January.

I think (and hope) that I should be alright for tickets. I've lived in Melbourne for a few years and have friends who could go and buy tickets when they go on sale. I guess Ding Dong can hold about 250+/- people so it will probably sell out within a week or so.

I just called Ding Dong -

Melvins will be playing on Tuesday, 27th January. They said tickets will go on sale sometimes during Jan.

Now lets hope for a Sydney side show...

doubt it, due to the aussie dollar goin to shit in the last while and perth being a million miles from anywhere (literally). spoke to my sister and old work colleagues over the past week  (whom live in perth) and their sayin band after band are canceling the perth leg of thier tours in the next few months, and a few bands on the the bdo fest also arnt going over. so i wouldnt be expecting it, but you never know. but hey, at least you will be in beautiful weather.
i say i can't, but i really mean i won't.

You're damn right :P

I will arrive in the warmest time of the year (over here in Holland it will be the coldest time).

So you're from Perth right? Do you have any recommendations on places I need to visit/see?

id use the word hottest rather warmest, doubt you'll see much below 30

but as nice as perth is, its a bit boring, basically a city. take a train south for 30minutes to a place called fremantle, and set up camp there. beautiful vibrant port city, full of bars, cafes (cappucino strip), an old famous market, street performers etc. and the fishingboat harbour (where you'll find a statue of bon scott). not far from beaches. as a tourist or whatever your up to, you wont want to leave.

if your there for a while you'll want to head up north of the state where the natural settings are quite amazing. but youll need to see a tourist info, ive only seen photos myself and heard stories from european travellers.

how long you there?
i say i can't, but i really mean i won't.

Smoghler

Yeah, I'm aware of the hot temperatures. I guess it will hit me like a smack in the face, but fortunately I don't have to do shit when I'm there  8)

Our plan is to stay in Pert/Fremantle for an indefinite time, perhaps heading south to see the Wave Rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wave_Rock). After that, we are thinking about traveling the coast up north all the way to Darwin. When we're there we're thinking about crossing the outback to the south/east of Australia to visit some relatives in Adelaide, Carnes and Sydney. To wrap it all up: traveling the east coast...

It sounds very ambitious, but the above setting is just a rough planning of what we have in mind; nothing is certain.

We're not sure how long we're staying, but the plan is to travel as long as possible. Basicly it all depends on the finances  :)
