I predict at least one more album.  maybe 2.     buzz has been quoted as saying the next studio album is going to go in a different direction.

but heres a thought:  what next?   do buzz and dale go out and find some new undiscovered bassist to step in?  do they go without a bassist and do all their own studio work, then hire someone to tour? do they find some well known bass legend who's band is no more (kinda like the way they got kev)?   and then do they abandon all Big Biz era material without the 2 drummers and jared's vocals?

what? I ask you.

or....   is that the end?     I say no.  this is buzz and dale's career.  neither one is eligable for social security yet.   so they'll make music somehow.

What's next?  I don't know.  But my opinion of where they're at is that it has become a little incestuous for my taste.  They seem to have closed ranks, and only work with the Big Biz/ Porn/ Fantomas/ Patton network.  I'm sure they've gotten to the point where these are the people they enjoy recording/ touring with and that makes it comfortable and enjoyable, but it's too predictable.  At least they are still recording and touring though, it could be worse.

It seems like, for being a classic band with a lot of history, they don't get a lot of love in the industry. You can read pitchfork, or Onion AV club, or any board, and it seems like people go ga-ga over the Pixies, or Gang of Four, or other indie bands, but the Melvins don't get the same love. Perhaps because their music isn't easily pigeonholed and it takes a bit to appreciate their artistic vision. Perhaps because it isn't poppy.

I think the strangest thing is the number of people that love Fantomas, Mr. Bungle and Boris but don't have a clue about the Melvins. They just don't have the same level of trendiness, i guess.

I'm the opposite.  I mean I've heard the above bands.  I pretty much hate anything by Mike Patton, with the exception of FNM Angel Dust and some Tomahawk tracks but that's more for Kevin and Duane's contribution.  He sucks and I can't understand why Buzz works with this no-talent retard.  Well that's a little harsh but I'm fresh from watching the latest Fantomas live dvd.  I have yet to really explore Boris but I've heard some stuff by them.  They just didn't grab me right away.

I love Kevin.  I vote for him to come back on board.  Bring him back, please.  (wishful thinking)

Having both Coady and Dale drumming is like mutually assured destruction.  The show I saw with Jared on bass and no Coady, just Dale, was good.  I enjoyed it a lot, it was a little more loose.  But when both Dale and Coady are drumming they are more of a precision machine because they have to be drumming together, which I think adds a lot more than people give them credit for and is more difficult than you may imagine.  Why do marching bands have so many drummers, or orchestras?  They also don't play exactly the same things.  As Buzz says over and over again, he thinks about this stuff more than anybody, including us losers.

The drummers are for a live visual and force effect. A band isn't just studio albums.

What I'm saying is that you people don't appreciate showmanship. Also, two drumkits playing in synch sounds different that a single drumkit even if they're playing the same thing. And the hybrid Crover/Willis beats don't sound like exactly either of them on their own. And the drumming on ASA and NWB are both quite distinct in style and execution.

Involving Patton in the main Melvins project anything is a terrible idea.
