It sounds like a pretty good idea, but I like how the Melvins manage to consume an entire band. They should keep doing that, they just have to get Toshi then they could move onto the rest of Porn and Altamont

if you're going to do it you might as well go all the way and throw fantomas in there as well.
imagine that stage clusterfuck.  4 bass, 4 drums, 4 guitar, etc. etc. etc.

i have had my ass kicked up and down the street before... I kind of thought it was a bit excessive to go all the way up then back down the street whilst getting my ass devastated by big bruno. I say they drop the drummer keep dale add a guitarists get a new bassist, rebuild the engine, rotate the tires, bomb the old build the new.

I mean, I guess I should give the Big Belvins more of a chance, but they aren't nearly as awesome as Kevin-era Melvins.

Look how ridiculously productive that period was. 5 legit albums, the Crybaby collab, the Sieg Howdy "odds and sods" collection, and enough other odds and ends tracks to form an album in and of itself.

And during this time Kevin released two awesome albums with Tomahawk and Buzz got in 4 records with Fantomas, which was even combined with the Melvins.

The Melvins' wiki even states Buzz said w/ Kevin it was the definitive lineup. 

That he was kicked out of two bands doesn't suggest Buzz was being Buzz, but that it was legitimately Kevin's fault.

don't know,i always thought more members in a band is not necessairly better,especially speaking of Melvins.do you guys still think Fantomas+Melvins sounds so great?it sounds chaotic and not in the best sense of the word.only an opinion.

agreed.  at some point too many guitars/bass's'sss turns to chaos.   but more drummers is a potentially interesting concept.

that is a deep conversation.  short answer: dale dale DALE.   
I would much rather hear dale working alone. he is one of the most creative, talented and unique drummers in the world.   I'm a purist for his work.  I'd give my lefty to get a recording of just the drum tracks for all the MELVINS releases prior to (A)SA.  just to more clearly hear every strike, crash and thud.


long answer: coady willis is an extremely talented and intense drummer in his own rite. I think the concept of dale and coady together is a fine concept with much potential. potential that I don't think we've heard yet.    they could do so many more things with change-offs and independent beats as opposed to the note for note exact same drumming they do now. its cool.  but I think in reality it actually takes away from both of their talent becuase they get more hung up on the timing. they'd be better off sitting down and letting loose. then taking what each creates and meshing it together.     its good now,  but it could be mindblowing.  they need to spend about a month in a studio just jamming together freestyle.  playing shows helps a little but its still the same exact drumming night after night after night.

agreed.we've not heard their full potential yet,we've heard a little and good anticipation of it on ASA,then NWB,i love it but let me say,they've been so lazy about drumming on that album.

sometimes I wonder if its on purpose.  like they don't want to "over do" the whole double drumming thing. they still want the albums to be considered "MELVINS" albums and not "drum" albums.

I still think the big business albums released during this time have been better than the Melvins albums released.

Agree about the drums not being full up to speed. Don't know what they could do better, but it seems like they can.

I think the only awesome thing to happen is the vocal harmonies. History of bad men rocks.

The Melvins/Big Biz material is interesting and different but only sounds outstanding in a live setting, imo. The only thing i like is how its heavy in a completely different way than other Melvins material becuase of the double drums, but im getting a little sick of this lineup. That being said im sure they'll stick together for at least a couple more albums.

I predict at least one more album.  maybe 2.     buzz has been quoted as saying the next studio album is going to go in a different direction.

but heres a thought:  what next?   do buzz and dale go out and find some new undiscovered bassist to step in?  do they go without a bassist and do all their own studio work, then hire someone to tour? do they find some well known bass legend who's band is no more (kinda like the way they got kev)?   and then do they abandon all Big Biz era material without the 2 drummers and jared's vocals?

what? I ask you.

or....   is that the end?     I say no.  this is buzz and dale's career.  neither one is eligable for social security yet.   so they'll make music somehow.

hard to tell,in my opinion they should try something new about the  studio recording,i'd like to see them working again with an external producer, although Toshi's work has always been excellent.guess that will never happen though.

Anyways, I'm surprised there is so much dissent to the lineup.

But yeah, they should try and open for Mastodon or other big bands to make some cash, expand the fan base. I'd like to see them try a mainstream metal album.

It seems like, for being a classic band with a lot of history, they don't get a lot of love in the industry. You can read pitchfork, or Onion AV club, or any board, and it seems like people go ga-ga over the Pixies, or Gang of Four, or other indie bands, but the Melvins don't get the same love. Perhaps because their music isn't easily pigeonholed and it takes a bit to appreciate their artistic vision. Perhaps because it isn't poppy.

Anyways, I ramble on.
