www.myopenbar.com is always a funny deal.

Hey Vin, I live near venue, and their is plenty to do before hand. My friend is sponsoring the venue with beer and I think wiskey at Melvins for Webster Hall, if things work out I may have some tickets.
I slept with faith, and found a corpse in my arms upon awakening, we danced and drank all night with doubt, and I found her a virgin in the Morning.

The show kicked ass. The first set was the 1983 stuff. To be honest, that is not my favorite material from my favorite band, but it was cool to see a ton of songs I've never heard in concert played live. Melvins without Dale behind the drums is a very different animal. Dillard was awesome and did a great job, but when Dale got behind the kit.... well I shouldn't have to explain that to this crowd.

After the 1983 set was finished, Buzz and Dale played alone for quite a while and it was awesome. They actually didn't need a bass player, they kicked just as much ass as a two piece.

Houdini. Wow. It was insane. When the Houdini material started, it turned into one of the best concerts I've ever  seen. Trevor Dunn was awesome. The two best moments for me were Night Goat (usually the case for any Melvins show for me) and Hag Me. The whole set kicked total ass, but Hag Me, which they played at the beginning totally blew me away.  After Houdini they played a few other tunes and ended with The Bit and a bass/drum jam that sounded kinda bluesy to me. One of the best Melvins shows I've ever seen.

Sorry, no set list from me. I was too busy grinning and telling my girlfriend how awesome everything was. Merch table was barely there. Houdini shirts and a poster for the event, that's it. I had the shirt already and didn't think the poster was cool enough to buy.

Now, what did I learn tonight? The Melvins need to go back to working as a 3 piece band. This is not a rip on Coady and Jared, I love those guys, love BB, and think both are kick ass musicians and they've done some cool stuff with The Melvins. Big Melvins is a great band. It's hard to put in to words, but tonight brought back some of the weird, raw, brutality. It was looser when it needed to be (Big Melvins is never loose) and at times even frightening. The heavy parts were heavier. All the ingredients that made me fall in love with this band in the first place. Please go back to a 3 piece band Melvins.

If you get a chance to see them on this short tour, DO IT!

*edit*
Just thought of two more things.

1. They played for two hours.  :D
2. I kept praying for a killer Kevin-era track, The Fool, Manky, something. It didn't happen. I'm not sure why they have been avoiding these songs for the past few years. I'm not complaining, just making an observation. This show was so awesome that if they had played The Fool or AMAZON I probably would have soiled my pants.

I hope someone posts a setlist as I was there but don't remember the order even close to what it was.

Joan of Arc was the highlight for me, though it didn't pack the punch of most of the other stuff played...even most of 1983.

Dale did a crazy, for what seemed like almost 10 minutes, drum "solo" deal with (I think) Dillard and and Dunn flanking him on either side drumming along with him. There was some mindblowing portions of it that reminded me (not that it was needed) how amazing Crover still is...and how unique a drummer he will always be. What could have felt like a drum circle ended up being one of the most powerfull moments of the night. also, felt like Crover's vocals were really on point tonight.

was a great show...I agree about the feeling of the three piece, especially since I haven't seen them as a trio since Kevin. (missed the handfull of shows before BB and the few since) Those shows with Kevin are some of my best melvins memories...and how good that band was during the HAT tour.

while melvins83 was playing...I kept thinking how interesting it would have been if Lorax or Deutrom had been brought on for these shows. Dunn is great, so no complaints here at all - far from it, but seeing the 83 lineup made me think how great a show would be if everyone could bury the hatchet and do a "stop making sense" style evening with the Melvins working through their catalog with different bassists.

wishfull thinking.

setlist?!?

total side note: not sure if anyone else here saw him, but Gibby Haynes was there to see the show. Thought it was kind of funny as things didn't go too well for him the last time I know he was at webster hall. was cool to see him there supporting the melvins.

Andy

Sounds great! Can anyone remember which songs were played as a two piece?
