Melvins and Down to tour

I've had the Flu all week so I've been a bit out of it but I'm begining to realize exactly why this tour was so upsetting.

About a month or two ago some random guy came in here claiming that a big project with Tool was coming.  This felt plausible because they are friends and have collaborated in the past.  A few weeks later it turned out to be bogus.

Fast foward a few more weeks and we have another random guy telling us that the Melvins are touring with Down.  This didn't seem plausible at all considering all the bad things Buzz has said about Phil.  Buzz has also mentioned not wanting to open for bands anymore.  Before the tour is even confirmed we start blasting Down.  Sure enough, it turned out to be true and it's a shocking unpleasant surprise.  I'm willing to bet that if we found out from Blabbermouth first instead of just hearing some rumor this would have been recieved better.

My stance still stays after listening to a few of their albums.  Down is OK at best and I'm not really excited to see them but if I have a ticket I'll at least watch their set.  Who knows, it might change my mind.

As for the fans, I have reason to believe that the fans at this show will be idiots but keep in mind I'm not generalizing all Down fans.  I would be seeing the show in Atlanta which is known for rough crowds.  I saw Ministry there last year and I was surrounded by skinheads who were just there to fight.  Somehow I pictures these same guys showing up to Down/Melvins just looking to fight.  I'll hold off judgement for now but that's what my gut is telling me.  I love Ministry and I love the Melvins but I don't want them touring together based on Ministry's fans.

I could have sworn that I saw an interview where Buzz called Phil a feather brained idiot.  I've seen so many interviews it would be really difficult to find.  I think Kevin was in the band at the time.

I have to go ahead and chime in here. I love the Melvins. And I am a huge Down fan. Haven't got to see either band yet, and this tour, along with the rumors I'm hearing of Weedeater joining it, is a huge boner for me.

And don't let a couple of moronic leftover Pantera fans come in here making people dread Down fans. Most of them seem pretty cool. And the tour package does fit, I'd say the majority of true Down fans are sludge heads and would be fans of the Melvins as well. I would love to see these bands in one night.

Now if this doesn't hit Houston I will cry.

I won't even bring up song titles like "cowboys from hell" for example.

pantera is spanish for panther.  not really that gay.   lots of bands have animal names.  however they did start off as a half-gay glam-metal band.  i think they should be excused, though, because everything they did after cowboys from hell is pretty badase.  Even cowboys from hell showed potential and is a pretty good debut album.

Pantera is a terrible name alright and does anybody remember Rex Brown used to be known as Rex Rocker.  Thats bordering on Tracii Guns territory.  Anyone ever read Vinnie Pauls column in Revolver?  A grown man with the vocabulary of a cretin.  Seems to me that Phil Anselmo was the only member with a brain plus of all the Pantera offshoot bands Phil's are the only credible ones.  Remember Damageplan and Hell Yeah?  "Alcohaulin ass" for fucks sake!  Makes me think that George Bush isn't the only village idiot in Texas.

I'd rather see Melvins with Down than have them attached to Tool in any way.  It's like your children hanging around with kids who are a bad influence.  Tool would bore the tits off anyone and they have the audacity to think they are cultured and progressive.  Hopefully someday someone will see through the facade and realise Maynard is just a small man with a big ego and a reasonable voice with no stage presence and Danny carey is just a drummer who can play complex paradiddly shite til the cows come home.  It reeks of pretension.
