I don't even know where to start.

I'll start with the good.  The Melvins had a great set.

POTRE
Talking Horse
Bloated Pope
Dog Island
Dies Irae
Billy Fish
Mr DNA
Anaconda
Zodiac
The Kicking Machine
Civilized drums into Blood Witch
Night Goat
Smiling Cobra

Pretty sure that's how it went.

EDIT**

Maybe it was Civilized drums into Night Goat......I remember Jared playing the bass line with weird drums at the beginning....

They were louder than normal for that venue.  Down fans seemed really into them which was cool......

Now.....lets talk about Down fans.

People on here have been bitching about this tour for weeks.  And bitching about the fans.  I kept quiet mostly, waiting to see how it turned out.  Secretly, I was a bit sceptical, but I wanted to see if it was as bad as people thought it would be.

It was.  It really was.

Except for the Melvins (which I almost didn't get to see, reason coming)the show was awful.  A. W. F. U. Fucking L. AWFUL.  I haven't swung at someone since I was 9 years old.  Twenty four years have passed since I've had to punch, or try to punch someone.  I came very close to breaking that streak tonight.  The guy next to me and my girlfriend spilled drinks on us, kept elbowing and kneeing her, and after she complained to him, he told her to fuck off.  If we were on the floor, and not in the balcony, I can understand.  But we were in seats.    She didn't tell me he had told her to fuck off until we left.  Which is why I almost didn't get to see the Melvins.  There was also the usual cock screaming "DDOOOOOOoWWWWWNNNNN" between every other bands song, guys throwing beer ( one of which hit me in the back of the head, soaking my hair and back ) and other general retardation from this group.  I really cannot explain how fucked this crowd was.  Most of them anyway.  Like I said, the Melvins got a good reception, and the kicked ass, but the Down fans ruined the show for us.  I know they're not all like that, but from what I saw, at least 70% of them are.  So be warned fellow fans, clutching your tickets for the Melvins/Down tour.......I'd bet a paycheck one of you gets in a fight at one of the shows, and it won't be your fault.

So good luck.

As far as Weedeater and Donava?  Dovana?....whatever.......I liked Weedeater.  Dovnananbanna was good.  Anselmo came out for their last song, a Sabbath cover.  Phil had the lyrics in his hand :)

I'll put some pics up soon....Gotta see if they turned out.  And I did film with my camera, but it's a seven year old digital, so we'll see if they turn out ok.....I just filmed Bloated Pope and Anaconda.....hope they're decent enough to share.

Oh, and I couldn't film ( with my camcorder).  A friend at the Roseland told me Down wasn't allowing it.  So I got to enjoy a Melvins show without the camera.......To bad though, I had killer seats, except for the cockbite sitting next to us.  I hope he got thrown out and hit by a truck.

It was a last minute deal but I got a ticket. I'm on vacation for a couple of weeks from law school and was happy to finally see a show, my first since 12/30/06. I saw Weedeater open for Monster Magnet back in 05....Nothing has changed. OK doom riffs, but when the bassist opens his mouth to do his evil doom vocals, i collapse in a heap of giggles. Danava KICKED ASS. I've never heard of these guys. They reminded me of a heavier Captain Beyond with long space jams.....very very cool.

Melvins kicked ass, of course. First time I've seen any of the NwB stuff live. It's not my favorite stuff but I appreciate it more live, especially Dog Island and Dies Irea, which were both highlights. It was nice to see Zodiac and Anaconda, both blistering versions.

Pigs of the Roman Empire
The Talking Horse
The Bloated Pope
Dog Island
Dies Iraea
Billy Fish
Anaconda
Zodiac
The Kicking Machine
Civilized Worm (tease)
The Smiling Cobra
Night Goat

We didn't stay for Down. The first album is a classic, but I just didn't care. Not my favorite show, but that always seems to be the case when the Melvins open for someone else (Tomahawk, Tool...Exception: Helmet '97). It's just an opening band vibe that's hard to shake. I felt like a real rebel in my khaki shorts and polo shirt amongst the masses. Dull tattoo rebellion. Most of the guys had the same black Down shirts, stupid tattoos and dumbass beards. The chicks all had the same tramp stamps and lame piercings. I wept internally at the state of rock and roll and felt an intense craving to listen to Jerry Lee Lewis live at the Star Club. Plus, I don't know if its Down policy or Roseland policy, but I got in trouble for taking a pic with my camera phone and calling a friend during Night Goat who couldn't make it. Maybe cell phone bootlegs are cutting into Phil Anselmo's bottom line.

*Edit* Mods can move this to Idle's thread.
Also melvins is gay cuz some of their songs are just noise, i tell you this so you all don't buy albums and find out only one two songs is good on them.

Ok, so the video is just a blob of pixels with mildy decent sound, so I'm not going to even try to post that.....but I got some okay pics.  Notice anything wrong in the first one?

They really are cockbites. I tried. I really did.

 So it turns out the complaints were justified after all?  On the plus side that setlist sounds fucking awesome and worth the effort to get there.  Sorry that guy nearly ruined your time.

....but I do still wish they'd play some Maggot and H.A.T. songs....

One question, did they play Civilized Worm or is it just a drum solo?

I could not agree more...Santa is not lying.......Almost every  one of them in Down shirts anbd spikes and leather and lots of talk about how drunk they were and how awesome the latest Rockfest cockfest was here in Portland.

When I was taking pics, a security guard told me not to take anymore video.  Uh..............I was taking pictures.  This was well after I took the vid of a few songs......at least 15 minutes later.  It was fucking retarded.  Did Phil not want us to see him have to bring out a lyric sheet to a Sabbath song?  And where was this cocksmoker when the buttplug next to us was starting shit?

It was Down policy Santa.  I've been filming there for almost three years now.  NEVER had a single problem.  Just filmed Sonic Youth there on July 28.....Not a word from security.

Word. I thought it was Down policy. The vibe from Buzzo was "I know you geeks are out there, but lets reach these "metalcore fucks"! Again, I think Down's first album, NOLA, is good times. But that was back in 1996. I have to say this tho. This Danava band really made me a happy guy. It's SO RARE when a local band ``````````````blows my ass away into another teepee. First....they know how to play mean 70's riffs that dont involve power chords. PLUS they look like my uncles and older cousins, out there in Washougal when we danced like primitives. Any drummer with a pony tail and mustache that looks like that and just happens to have a hawk wing tattooo??????? he must have grown up at the portland speedway waiting for fast freddy miles to eat the competition before the limited sportsmen.....sorry, all i can say is that band kicked ass. my ounce of respect I had for Phil increased when he came out to jam with them. All of a sudden the crowd liked a band that they were calling fags a minute before. Too bad I cared not a lick for down.

i can vouch about the down fans!!!  TOTAL JACK ASSES!!!  melvins and weedeater wer way cool!  i stayed for down cause a friend that was with me didnt want to leave and he rode with me... thats why i hate givin people rides to concerts.. Danger Erin from Jackass was there.  I hung out with him for quite  awhile.. It seemed to me that the melvins had a bigger mosh pit going when they played than when down was playing from what i saw!  It was nice to go to portland and see the melvins at some place besides the showbox.  the melvins set seemed short.. goin to bed.

Are they saying something?  I just glanced at their board for a few minutes and couldn't find anything.
