from what i know about webster hall.... it's the oldest night club in town. it's mainly a 19+ night club of which has complete asshole security. locals don't like it as a whole, but are seemingly drawn to it?

Yeah, I think the early start was due to nightclub nonsense going on after the show. Webster Hall has a disco room or some shit, then maybe other music going on as well. From what my sister says it's a big meat market with tons of guidos who don't know how to keep their hands to themselves.

I too left after the Melvins set. It's nice of them to let Isis headline, but I don't get what the fuss is about them breaking up. They sound like a lamer version of Tool (who tend to bore me after a while themselves). I tried to stay for a few songs but half way through the second song I knew their set wasn't doing it for me so I split.

Seeing the Melvins before another band is like someone giving you juicy steak for dinner, then afterwards following it up with a plate of Saltine Crackers.

Whoa, your comparison of Tool and Isis is pretty off IMO. I have been a fan of both bands in the past and don't hear any resemblance.

Though I definitely agree with your analogy about the juicy steak.

I was inside around 6:30 and there was a box set on the merch table. They said that there were only 2 left, I wish I had brought more money. Did snag some vinyl though.

I wasnt aware of Isis headlining until we got there as well(which was a bummer in itself). Only stayed for prob 2 Isis songs before I left. They didnt even sound like they wanted to be there and I wouldve been okay with them not being there too.

Either way, it was my first time seeing the 4 man band lineup(first time was with Trevor Dunn) & I couldnt be happier about the song lineup. Within the first 2 minutes of the concert I was completely satisfied just because they walked on stage to the Blazing Saddles theme and followed it by playing Sacrifice.

hey guys

this was the best melvins i've seen for about 3 years. no point trying to describe, obviously.
i recorded it and am listening to it right now. It's pretty surprisingly good quality (borrowed a $400 recorder stocked with two condenser mics pointing away from each other). I'm gonna post this recording on my site this week. links will be provided. No interview jokes allowed.

Pelican, everything you said rings true with me. I forgot to try to contact you before this. I meant to. i totally agree about the "newer" crowd thing. It's what ruined the brooklyn show for me last year. The hipsters there took the "newness" thing to a new level totally losing their shit for the recent songs and then going to the bar for the classics. Stupid fucking fashion show, that concert was.

damn, this recording sounds good.... you'll see.

Just a little note for everyone - I was recording this show up on the balcony for my site, nyctaper.com. Equipment was DPA 4021>Edirol R-44 with custom modded preamps... Recording is pretty phenomenal. Should be up today or tomorrow at www.nyctaper.com

Great show... too bad it was so short.

It just had that similar prog-metal type sound to me. Tool definitely being far better at it. Isis just seemed to be influenced by them to me, and not as good. I also have no tolerance for the growling style singing.

I absolutely despise that word, PROG. Sorry but I find no band out there that is considered PROG to be enjoyable. I really don't think Isis or Tool classify either. At least from the PROG that I've heard. Perhaps I'm being uptight but it's like calling the Melvins a grunge band. I just can't do it.
