Does buzz just alter words that have meaning so nobody knows what the hell he's talking about? Or do his words actually have meaning? Or does he just throw random words in songs cuz they SOUND cool?

absolutely!  they have the best lyrics in the world.  i cant remember where i read this but i think buzz thinks of lyrics as more of an instrument than a way to project ideas or thoughts.  like this "HARDLY, WE REACH" sounds so cool.

That's pretty much what i think. I sometimes experiment like that, it makes making music so much more fun. What also blows me away is how he gets his song titles. "Spread Eagle Beagle", "shevil", "porg". i love it

Reverend Ebeneezer

His lyrics often sound like trendy Japanese t-shirt designs in their random use of English...
Don't cut me!DON'T CUT ME!

His lyrics just fit well with the music very well. I'm sure most 'mean' something, but he's not singing them to put out meaning. Its more like the melvins don't wanna be instrumental, but found a way to have vocals without people really lsitening to what he's saying.

What's the steve albini quote, vocals are for the people who can't handle music. Something like that.

yea i love buzz's lyrics. they make you think, and that is something i dont see alot with new bands out today, they just come out and say what there feeling wether it be angst, love, anger whatever, and after a while it gets a bit stale, hearing about how depressed they are  . that is why i love buzz's lyrics, they never gets stale.

Yes, then he goes and takes a complete 180 and sings a song like "set me straight". wierd. the song seems too simple for them. Although, they wrote it way back on GPT, so maybe they were more "punk" back then.

Its not the words(or meaning for that matter) that make them cool. It's how he pronounces them which kickass. He'll strecth some words out, say them fast etc... Some do have meaning I'm sure but most are just cool sounding. Set me straight is probably my second favorite song next to the cover(?) of Candy-o.

The Melvins have spoiled me for all other lyrics... most lyrics I hear from other bands sound simply banal or plain stupid. On the other hand, Buzz's lyrics have so much meaning, even though they are seemingly meaningless and hard to understand.

isn't this where "hooch" comes in to be a perfect example?

pure nonsense. i sometimes think it all ties together... and i try to figure it out... but i get frusterated and just leave it.

Gellatine!

as a fan of death metal and extreme metal in general, ive become used to not knowing lyrics-the singing to me is just a protection of the motion of the song, they could be singing about fluffy bunny tea parties for all i care it wouldnt make any difference

the melvins are exactly the same, buzz just screams when the song calls for it...but some little things he says are so cool, like on "dont piece me" when he sings "OH GOD, IT LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!" gives me shivers every time!
