I hope that this can put an end to the "why don't Melvins play my city" whining.

Great comment by (the) Melvins.

"Incase you haven't noticed, we tour all the time. Eventually we'll play in your city. Hey, you can always travel to see us!"

Can we finally put the "why don't Melvins play my city" cry to rest?

All I can say is,

Yes, they tour a lot, but they tour the SAME FUCKING CITIES the majority of the time.  LA San Francisco Minneapolis Austin New York YAWN.  Good luck seeing them within a few years if you live outside of the U.S.  Why do they tour the same cities?  It's probably easy when you're comfortable with certain venues.  And, they play in or around the Los Angeles area about TEN TIMES a year.   People ask the Melvins to tour their city because they like the band.  It's not brain surgery. :x
The road i cruise is a bitch now!
You know you can't do me 'round
If a house gets in my way,
You know I'll burn it down!!

Fantastic poster!

i can not complain.  i live in  a small country, however the melvins drop by every 2 to 3 years. they either play zurich which is 20min away from home or they play in the french part of switzerland, which is 3 to 4 hours away... i am fine with that! thats the good thing about switzerland, no matter where a gig is, it's never longer than 4 hours to travel!

I'd travel to see the Melvins, absolutely!  But I'm a college student and anything that's over 5 hours away is just too difficult.  More than anything it just seems really odd that they skipped Athens GA this year with their mini tour.  I know I'm beating a dead horse but the closest show for me was New York and that's roughly a 12 hour drive.  They skipped the entire southeast.   You know you feel sad when The Melvins skip your city and you don't get to see them.   :(

Still, I guess playing CA 12 times this year makes sense to them.  I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a fall tour that brings them over here!

Sorry, I don't travel with the Grateful Dead. I live nearby in Louisville, KY. It is a fairly major city when it comes to concerts. The Melvins have played here before but not enough to suit me. I have travelled at the most about 120 miles to see them before. I don't see myself doing that all the time for them. THEY are the band. I'm the customer. You come to my city and I will pay to see you. I won't keep coming to YOU. That is simple capitalism that even Roger Osborne can appreciate.

Then you will understand why they do not come to your city often enough to suit you.

i got a question. they always sold out here in nashville, but its a smaller club. i wonder if the only cities they are playing have bigger stages and guarantees. they've mentioned before that the huge guarantees is what gets them to europe for special events. i also notices all of the residency shows featured borrowed or rented equipment. the almighty dollar is starting to really come between the artist and the fan.

You are right.
It rubs me the wrong way when they get bothered by fans saying Come to My City.

It hasn't been very major THIS year.

I'd be fine with going to Indy or Newport to see them as I'm convinced only like 5 people in my town like the Melvins but I'm freakishly subconcious about planning for out-of-state trips to shows.

when i was wifey-less, i would make at least 4 trips to atlanta a year. but now with the economy the way it is and three mouths to feed, it ain't happenin'.  and what makes more sense: making a load of nashvillians pay a hundy each to make way to atlanta or play nashville too, sell out the show, and have all of them spend a hundy each at the merch table to boot?

It rubs me the wrong way when they get bothered by fans saying Come to My City.

I didn't think they were upset.  They were just saying that they tour frequently and will eventually end up in your city.  If you don't like it travel to CA.

The closest Buzz has seemed bothered on the issue was when fans were asking them to play some obscure city in the middle of nowhere.  It seems like Buzz's reply was something like, "Really, you can't figure it out on your own why we don't play there?   ".

Sure-fire way to make new fans statements like that.

Jimi Hendrix never tours and he sells a shit ton more music than Melvins ever could.
