I hope that this can put an end to the "why don't Melvins play my city" whining.

Jimi Hendrix never tours and he sells a shit ton more music than Melvins ever could.
Good point except you neglect one small matter.........he's dead. He earns the tragically-died-too-soon genius buck.

Sorry, I don't travel with the Grateful Dead. I live nearby in Louisville, KY. It is a fairly major city when it comes to concerts. The Melvins have played here before but not enough to suit me. I have travelled at the most about 120 miles to see them before. I don't see myself doing that all the time for them. THEY are the band. I'm the customer. You come to my city and I will pay to see you. I won't keep coming to YOU. That is simple capitalism that even Roger Osborne can appreciate.

It hasn't been very major THIS year.

I'd be fine with going to Indy or Newport to see them as I'm convinced only like 5 people in my town like the Melvins but I'm freakishly subconcious about planning for out-of-state trips to shows.

Well, there is Clutch who always delivers and Big Business will be in Newport late July...

It rubs me the wrong way when they get bothered by fans saying Come to My City.

I didn't think they were upset.  They were just saying that they tour frequently and will eventually end up in your city.  If you don't like it travel to CA.

The closest Buzz has seemed bothered on the issue was when fans were asking them to play some obscure city in the middle of nowhere.  It seems like Buzz's reply was something like, "Really, you can't figure it out on your own why we don't play there?   ".

Sure-fire way to make new fans statements like that.

I'm sure if your band got as big as The Melvins you'd gladly play Aurora, Utah to appease your one fan.

Don't try and justify it it's a shitty thing to say to your fans.

The Melvins would play anywhere if the price was right so lets not try to pretend the lack of people turning up would actually bother him.

I don' t think it is at all a shitty thing to say to your fans. It is called REALITY.

Then those fans can save up money to pay them to play their city.

Seriously.  I currently live in Augusta GA which is the second biggest city in the state.  The Melvins have never played here and play Atlanta and Athens instead.  I'm not complaining.  Me and my friends even told Buzz that it probably wasn't best for them to come here because people probably wouldn't show up.

Buffalo/Rochester and the whole WNY area can be a bitch sometimes for shows, often times bands bypass this area when going from NYC to Toronto. It's definitely gotten better recently, due to more clubs and better promoters. Before the 2006 tour, it was 1995 when they played here last!
Since '06 it's been decent though. Buffalo/Rochester got back to back nights in '08/'09. Last year closest was Cleveland, well worth the drive. 6 hrs round trip is about all I'd drive to see any band. I like driving home after the gig, and sleeping in my own bed.

I get why they don't play here all the time and why the smaller tours only hit the "big" cities. When it's a small run and they're gonna play x amount of shows, the places that cough up the cash get the band.

There is absolutely NO reason for them not to play in Louisville. When they play here the place is packed and people buy up the merch. So the capitalist in Buzz should always bring it to the 'ville.

It's a marketing statement to defend that whole thing, once they finish playing Grumpy's for the 400th time. Part of me hates it because I will spend my money to go see this band live. But part of me does like the fact that... Guess what? You'd better either catch them or wait another ten years. Makes the experience a little more authentic.

I didn't catch em' in 2002 so how was that show? When Big Business came here in '09 like 50 people showed up.

It was packed at headliners when they opened for Down. It was packed in 2002. As far as big business...it was the concert goers loss because that was the show Tweak Bird was with them. And I dare say they stole the show.

Yeah but that whole crowd was.... a bunch of.... DOWNERS. *rimshot*

Not as bad as Indianapolis, though.

I lvoe this topic.

I saw them in Indy with Jello. It was packed but there were a lot of metal heads in the show. Buzz said on stage that he loved Indianapolis.
